About us
Shot in the Dark was created by twenty something newlyweds Grant and Jordanna.
We both love quizzes, but hated that all quiz games had the same flaw! Quiz games are no fun if there is a wide range of general knowledge abilities within the group, which always seemed to be the case (for us the team who has Grant’s dad won every time, which spoiled it).
We figured that our family and group of friends couldn’t be the only ones to struggle with this, so we invented Shot in the Dark, a game that is inclusive and can be enjoyed by quiz masters and people with terrible general knowledge alike.

We enjoyed this. There are loads of cards included with a few questions on each one. We play as a couple and just read the questions out and both guess an answer before revealling the actual answers one at a time. Will be good with family and friends as it gives you something to talk about rather than just doing a normal quiz – especially for some of the more surprising answers.
The complete randomness of this game makes it so fun for any age or intelligence level. It’s so accessible to everyone and irresistible to play. Travels really well and generates interesting discussion. A must have.
Bought for Christmas time when the family are over and having some drinks. Good entertainment and some really good questions and fascinating answers as well so I highly recommend anyone to add it to their games collection 🙂
Shot in the Dark is a great general knowledge quiz game, brilliant multi choice questions, that everyone can play because you can simply take a ‘shot in the dark’ and guess the answer from multi option choices. Well presented, good quality question cards, intelligent, varied questions that will appeal to everyone, no matter what your interests or strengths. Love it.
Very simple format No board and nothing to set up so very easy to play while sitting on the sofa. The questions are varied and sometimes really funny. Four of us played over Christmas and we really enjoyed it.
bought for my mum for christmas who is a bit of a quiz know it all. was perfect to play on boxing day with everyone as it wasn’t about skill and kept conversation flowing. would be really good for anyone but if you have a group that don’t know each other it would be a fab ice breake
Looking forward to seeing the cards ect.disappoited very difficult to read small writing on the cards.so not much use to me.could you do a bigger print versio
Brought the game out on Boxing Day. I hoped it would allow us to have an hour or so free from the telly. Our group consisted of mum & dad, 2 grandmas, 1 grandad, 1 12yo aspergers boy (likes to win and is a demon for detail) and his surly 16 yo sister who’d sat over Christmas in her parka with the hood up over her head & face.
There was tense apprehension when I said we were playing a game but we weren’t long into when the atmosphere changed. Everybody joined in, everybody took a turn at asking questions, everybody won a few times and everybody had a good time. Lots of laughter, lots of interesting facts, lots of family fun. Thank you, we loved it and look forward to playing it agai
We’ve played this with friends just as random questions during our Christmas get together and then with our teenagers for a battle of the points. Enjoyed by all and you get to learn some interesting facts.
Not much to it, a pack of cards with questions and answers. That said, it sets a level playing field. The questions are pretty much impossible to get right, it is a case of who can make the best guess so everyone has a chance of winning. A nice change from standard quizzes, and provided a good few hours of entertainment.
Played this with my family on our games night. Everyone had a great time, it doesn’t rely on pure knowledge but a mixture of knowledge and luck. Also all those random facts you’ve heard over the years might come in handy during the game.
The cards are a little on the delicate side and can get damaged.
For something quick and easy to pick up and play with a large group of family from broad ages and gaming interests this game was very good we played twice and only rally used 5-10% of the questions
This game is not sophisticated but the questions are good fun and will keep my family amused.
I like the idea of the game and, once they got into the swing of the questions, most people seemed to enjoy it.
I think I’d prefer a board but without a board it made this game easier to play when everyone is spread around a living room.
The best thing is that general knowledge doesn’t really help you as it is a guessing game with some incredible answers to the questions.
We love playing board games and quizzes. I recently bought More or Less which we all loved so I thought we’d get this for our family Christmas Day entertainment. We played in 2 teams with another person acting as quiz master. We are aged between 12 and 63 and we are all pretty competitive so this game challenged us as the questions are very random. To our astonishment we actually got some exactly right but you don’t have to as the team that guesses nearest to the answer wins. Well worth the money and I will buy the 2nd set of cards as it will be well used.
This is a guessing game about random facts and figures, a bit like some of the rounds on Richard Osman’s House of Games eg “Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic what percentage of the UK population had a gym membership?”. General knowledge will help and you could have fun deciding on your answers if you played in teams like a pub quiz.
The questions are great fun – we’ve played over zoom already with 5 other households – it worked really well, mainly because it involves guesswork rather than general knowledge (unless someone happens to know the answer!). No deep discussions, deeper meanings or arguments just take a guess…. a shot in the dark! lol
I’ve given it 4 stars rather than 5 because I would have preferred the cards to be slightly bigger.
A little bit unsure about spending 10+ on a card quiz that wasnt really a game. We were wrong… its been worth the cash on the first night. Played with 2 players. Good conversation, lots of fun for a couple of hours and only gone through 12 cards.
Expansions are welcome if well priced and as the title suggests genre specific could target certain audiences. Examples from my family that would work would be Music (could split in genres or decades) movies (split into harry potter, jurassic park) We look forward to your companies future.
Thanks for the good times
Love this game – since lockdown 1 we’ve been playing zoom trivial pursuits with both sets of parents each week – which we’ve got fed up with because one person is way better than everyone else and knows all the answers. We played Shot in the Dark for the first time and it worked really well – he can’t know these things, so the game is fair again. Also really interesting information on the cards and starts great debates. Also, amazingly it’s popular with both my 12 and 15 year olds which is a minor miracle in itself! They both enjoy playing after dinner, and it’s so nice to have a conversation all together. Really recommended.
Bought this for a Christmas family party. It is essentially just a pack of cards with questions on but the questions themselves are what makes this game so much fun. Rather than a game of questions to see who is the most knowledgeable this is about good guesswork as you try to estimate how many bricks are in a house or beans in a baked bean tin. Its great fun to see some of the figures people come up with and its genuinely interesting to see what the real answer is. I bought some small blank wipe boards and drywipe pens so that everyone could reveal their answers and save on paper. We’ve now played four times with up to 12 people from age 12 to 81 and there a loads of cards for many more games. Highly recommended.
The concept of this game is great, with facts that all the family can have a go at guessing. Great for those who like quizzes, but even if not the questions are random enough that anyone can have a go! However, this is just a pack of cards. There is no game board or a ‘game’ to play with strategy or ways to beat opponents, such as rolling dice. So it’s just a case of who gets more correct answers. I feel it would be much better if there was a board game element to the questions too. Personally I’m working out whether I can use these questions and a dice on another board such as snakes and ladders or logo game to make it more of a game than a set of questions. But great idea.
