I wanted something easy to use at the campground. It’s really ready to go. Just set up and start using! Easy cleanup the next day and everything burns down to ash. Great!
My wife was dying to get one of these but wouldn’t but it she got it for Mother’s Day. She loves campfires but hates smelling like one for days. This little guy puts off next to no smoke, makes it SUPER easy to get a roaring fire going, and packs away with ease. I’m so glad I bought one for her and she is absolutely thrilled with it!
wow. easy to light. little to no smoke. i found it hot to sit around, but cools quickly as the wood burns. jacket patatos were good. big enough for our small garden as its only the two of us.
my expectations were high due mainly to the high cost. those have been met.
burn good dry wood. if it’s wet or green then you will get smoke.
the flames are mesmerising.
buy it and enjoy.
We couldn’t wait to receive the Yukon and we weren’t disappointed. It’s big and looks great. No smoke once it was well under way and heat it throws out is phenomenal. Glad we bought the bundle, but wish it had had an option for a bundle with a lid. We’ve ordered one separately now as it would be so messy if it rained in the night having used it the evening before. We are very pleased with it in every way.
Haven’t used this yet but seems very sturdy. Looks nice too. Bought a lid for it (extra). Also bought a protective pad for underneath. Will update this review in the Spring.
What a great piece of gear! We take camping in the motorhome and have never been disappointed. Everything fully burns, by morning very few ashes to left to clean out, which is a breeze.
One of my best purchases, no assembly required, just set it up, easy to use, and wow, does it burn efficiently, great out on the patio, very happy with this purchase and recommend to anyone who wants a heat source on a patio.
Be aware that due to the Ranger’s size, you will need to cut down your logs as regular sized logs are too big to fit below the secondary burn holes.
My initial burn gave off a horrible chemical smell. Wasn’t sure if it’s the wood, the ranger, or the shield, but will have to do a few more burns and see if it improves. Smokes a bit when first lighted but once the fire gets going it does improve immensely. Definitely not smoke free by any means but it is a night and day difference compared to traditional fire pits. When the fire starts roaring the flames due rise up pretty high, so definitely keep that in mind in regards to where you plan to have the fire. This thing heats up super hot, especially directly above the pit. It still provides some radiant heat outwards about three feet away. The radiant heat is mostly from the top of the pit, feet level will not get any heat at all. Actually you can touch the bottom of the pit while it’s roaring and it’ll still be comfortable enough to touch bare handed. Once the fire is out the coals that are left do still provide a very strong heat source.
The shield is a toss up. I started my fire without it and some small embers did escape. When i placed the shield the same type of embers still escaped. Perhaps it’s meant to prevent potential large embers?
Once coals are left, it takes about an hour for the stove to be cool enough to handle and move. I let the stove burn it’s self out over night. The stove is so efficient whats left is just a small clump of ash. To clean you just turn it over and give it a few strong taps.
All in all i do enjoy my purchase. Only real gripes are the cutting down of logs (might get tedious after a while), the chemical smell (hopefully improves after a few burns), and the tight fitting storage bag.
If you have space for one, go for bonfire. Not needing to cut down your logs is a huge benefit. But if you’re aware of that, need something smaller and more portable, go for the ranger.
We had it sitting on packed snow and it barely sank in. Maybe not ideal for marshmallows since the flame is pretty concentrated, but it can be done if you let the fire burn down a bit. Then stoke it back up when done cooking marshmallows.
As with many others here, I like this fire pit a lot.
It completely burns everything and gives off tons of heat.
However, just fair warning, it is somewhat heavy 40-50lbs, so when you dump your ashes in the green waste or wherever you send them, it’s a little on the unwieldy side to move around. Maybe get a shovel and scoop it out instead.
But that would be my only complaint. It’s great otherwise.
Love it. Wish there was a better way to clean it, slow down the air flow and the fire, and a cover to snuff out the fire. But it’s great.
