Stepping into the world of Street Fighter 6 on the PS5 has been nothing short of a revelation for a lifelong fan like myself. With a legacy spanning decades, the Street Fighter franchise has continuously evolved, and this latest installment is a testament to the series’ ability to stay relevant while honoring its iconic roots. As I immersed myself in the game’s stunning visuals, innovative battle system, and immersive storytelling, I found myself transported into a world where every punch and kick held unparalleled significance. Here’s an in-depth review of my experience with Street Fighter 6:
Positives:
* Visuals Beyond Imagination: Street Fighter 6’s visuals defy expectations, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible on the PS5. Character models are meticulously detailed, environments come to life with dynamic lighting, and animations are fluid and captivating. Whether it’s the meticulous attention to Ryu’s Hadouken or the intricate details of Chun-Li’s kicks, every frame is a visual treat.
* Revolutionary Battle System: One of the standout features of Street Fighter 6 is its groundbreaking battle system. The integration of new mechanics seamlessly fits into the series’ core gameplay, providing a fresh layer of depth. From V-Shifts to the exhilarating Critical Arts, every move feels impactful and strategic. This balance between accessible mechanics and in-depth strategy offers an experience that caters to both newcomers and veterans.
* Empowering Storytelling: Street Fighter 6 breaks new ground with its immersive storytelling. The ability to craft your own World Warrior and actively shape their journey adds a personal dimension to the game. This is a unique approach to storytelling in a fighting game, offering players agency and allowing them to forge a more profound connection with the Street Fighter Universe.
* Unifying Cross-Platform Play: The inclusion of cross-platform play is a game-changer, uniting players across different consoles and PC. The seamless matchmaking ensures that finding opponents is quick and easy, fostering a diverse and vibrant online community. This not only enhances the competitive aspect of the game but also ensures that players are never short of challenges.
* A Fighter for All: Street Fighter 6’s versatility is its true strength. Whether you’re a casual player looking for a dazzling spectacle or a hardcore fighter seeking mastery, the game caters to all skill levels. The comprehensive training mode and tutorials are a boon for those new to the series, while the competitive scene remains as thrilling as ever for seasoned players.
Negatives:
* Initial Learning Curve: While the battle system’s depth is commendable, newcomers might initially find it overwhelming. The multitude of moves and strategies to grasp can create a barrier for entry. A more gradual introduction to mechanics through a comprehensive tutorial could help ease players into the experience more effectively.
* Story Mode Pacing: Despite the innovative storytelling approach, the pacing of the story mode occasionally falters. Some sections may drag on while others move too swiftly, disrupting the narrative’s flow. A more consistent pacing could enhance the overall engagement and emotional investment in the plot.
* Unlocking Characters: While character variety is crucial, the process of unlocking certain fighters can become a chore. A more streamlined and engaging character unlocking system, tied to in-game achievements or challenges, could make the process more rewarding.
* Animation Transitions: Although the character animations during gameplay are generally impressive, there are moments when transitions between moves feel slightly stiff. A smoother animation system could contribute to a more seamless and fluid fighting experience.
In Conclusion:
Street Fighter 6 on the PS5 represents an evolution of the franchise that honors its legacy while embracing the future of gaming. From the jaw-dropping visuals to the revolutionary battle system and player-driven storytelling, every aspect of the game is a testament to Capcom’s dedication to the series. The inclusion of cross-platform play, comprehensive tutorials, and a versatile gameplay experience ensure that Street Fighter 6 is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of the entire franchise.
Having spent countless hours unlocking characters, mastering moves, and immersing myself in the narrative, I can confidently say that Street Fighter 6 is a definitive entry in the series. It has reignited my passion for Street Fighter and provided me with a gameplay experience that seamlessly marries nostalgia with innovation. As a fan who has witnessed the series evolve over the years, Street Fighter 6 has reaffirmed its status as a legendary franchise that continues to captivate and inspire gamers around the world.
Yes, I’m one of those annoying people who think real gamers should use classic controls. I wish I could exclude modern users from my ranked matches. It gets tiresome when people spam the same combos over and over.
I had some fun, but SF3 is still the best for me.
A good revamp for a game that was huge during my childhood. The graphics are really good and the game play so far feels fun and interesting enough. I was dubious about this being a game that’ll get played once but I don’t think that will be the case here.
Having not played the games for a long time. I’ve usually leaned towards MK and Tekken etc. I have to admit this game is so entertaining.
I did start using the modern controls, but I seemed to be just doing the same moves, it doesn’t take much to learn the specials and then use them when needed. I think it’s a much more exciting experience using the classic controls. The combos work better and all the other cool things just work when you want them to.
Like others have said the story is so nice it’s like an open world tutorial. Create your own character and watch them become a legend! It gives a backstory to each main character and plenty of side missions to keep you going. Beware of all the weirdos trying to fight you everywhere you walk! Story is interesting, cutscenes look great and just all around fun.
That said I’ve been so engrossed in the story mode’ I’ve not had time to look at the rest in detail. As practically a newbie to street fighter, I’m a convert after being only a MK fanboy. Well worth the buy.
This game has so much content. Capcom continues to deliver with SF6: 18 Characters, tons of maps Each with there own BANGING music, loads of different modes (World tour, Battle Hub & Fighting Ground Each have a plethora of options incl. Story modes) and a customisable training room are all here in the base game. Not one to miss!
After the bare-bones package that was SFV when released, SFVI is a far far superior game.
It has a great mix of characters to start with, 18 in total including the “Original 8” from SFII (if you can remember playing back then) plus a whole host of new and interesting ones.
There is a huge single player story that has an incredibly deep character-creator and a whole online section that allows you to either play as your created character or as one of the standard fighters.
Graphics are fantastic, as is the single-player mode. Definitely a 5***** game.
This is THE fighter that we have all been waiting for. Expansive character customisation. Quirky and fun single player open world story game mode where you finally can live the “street fighter” life. Including silly mini games that will genuinely increase your control skills. The modernised control systems are a real pleasure to use for those of us who don’t care for intricate button presses and just want to have a great time – but don’t worry 90s kids, the classic controls are still there if you failed to get with the times. Extensive online social modes. Arcade modes. The best training modes street fighter has ever had too.
Overall, the whole game is a pure joy. Don’t miss this one!
Other reviews here seem to be panning this incredible fighting game because they didn’t understand what they were getting into. Street Fighter 6 is both beginner-friendly and very accessible but this doesn’t make the game in any way simplistic.
The ‘Modern’ control option makes pulling off special moves a breeze, the ‘World Tour’ mode acts as the best fighting game tutorial I’ve ever experienced disguised as a meaty, semi-openworld RPG and the character-by-character tutorials and combo trials teach you everything you could ever want to know.
It is still a modern fighting game however and therefore mechanically very dense.
Between gauge management, Drive Rush, Drive Impact, Perfect Parries and avoiding Burnout, there is A LOT going on. These mechanics quickly start to feel like second-nature however and it’s important to state that you don’t have to engage with them if you don’t want to. SF6 is still essentially Street Fighter as Street Fighter has been for three decades now.
Grab a buddy, mash some buttons and have a blast.
HAAAAADOKEN!!!
I’m not sure what the other reviewer is talking about. How is it “almost impossible to play?” I’m just going to have a few guesses whilst reviewing the game:
1. Maybe he hasn’t changed his controls to Classic mode? SF6 has a “Modern” controls mode, made for newcomers to the game. Instead of 6 buttons, you only need to use 4 face buttons and you can hold one of the triggers, and spam either light, medium or heavy attack to perform a combo. If you prefer to play like in all the older Street Fighters, choose Classic mode. It has six buttons.
2. Maybe he hate’s the Drive system? At first, the Drive Impact move seems invincible. But after a few hours of play when the fear has gone, it’s very easy to counter someone abusing the Drive Impact system.
3. Maybe he’s having trouble playing online? Always use an ethernet cable. Despite that, the netcode is so good that even wifi players can have an acceptable experience. You can also choose to jump on a quiet server in one of the game modes to avoid lag as much as possible.
4. Maybe his favourite characters from SFV aren’t around? They will probably add them soon, and the characters introduced are great.
The game has so much to offer. World Tour mode is a fun single player experience that’s full of content to get through and designed to gradually train the player to take on real opponents. Fight Hub is an awesome way to meet up with strangers or friends, and play in a digital arcade. Fighting Grounds is the classic SF experience.
I don’t understand that 1 star review. This is a 5 star game.
Game offers more than the traditional competitive 1 on 1 with fewer gimmicks than what 5 had. Story mode is actually fun where you create an avatar and roam the streets of new york and follow any fighter from the roster and use their moves as your own. Game feels like it has evolved which shows with its character designs have aged classic characters like Ryu, Ken, and Chun-li and made them look noticeably older without hindering their ability to fight. Modern controls provide the player fewer inputs to execute special moves all the much quicker and easier to balance the skill gap between hardcore veterans and newcomers to Street Fighter 6. The price as well at the time of writing is 49 which is generous for a new game as apposed to the overinflated price of over 60. Well worth trying.
Street Fighter 5 was garbage at launch. Barely any single player content and the online didn’t work for the first three or four days. Eventually, due to updates, SF5 became a good game a year or so later but it left a bitter taste in a lot of people’s mouths. Capcom had to do a lot make people even want to give Street Fighter 6 a chance. The good news is that they did. Street Fighter 6 is a complete game at launch. There’s 30 hours or so of single player content with World Tour mode, arcade mode is good and the online WORKS (and is solid) at launch. The graphics are a big improvement on SF5, the new characters are well thought out and the old characters are better than ever. Good game.
Much better than 5. In terms of launch content and ease of use. Easy to drop in and out of battles via single player or online. Can’t wait to dig deeper into combos etc.
