Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Usersfantastic product just needed a small modification to stop the lid from staying open,
a sticky hook just stops the lid opening too far then you can lift the hook and open all the way for filling, a simple fix for a good sturdy feede

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant just needs a slight mod

Had one before, and it last 13years. I’m so pleased with this it’s exactly the same. I fill it up with monkey nuts every day, and watch the clever squirrels lift the lid up and get the nuts out. Fantastic to see. Thank you and I do recommend it to anyone who loves wildlife.

Have had this type of feeder in use for a few years, and only just replaced it with one of the same. Squirrels quickly learn how to work it and don’t break it. It would be good if spare polycarbonate tubes could also be sold then I would have bought that instead of a full new feeder.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersExcellent value for money. I like the metal construction as it looks to be durable. The squirrels quickly got used to it being in the garden. At the moment they are no longer trying get into my squirrel proof seed feeders, of which we have many.
The feeder came ready assembled, just needed to screw it in place. Now we came watch the squirrels enjoying their nuts from our kitchen window.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy metal structure

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThese are brilliant, i have given a 9 instead of a 10 out of 10 for one simple reason and its because of the securing screws which hold the shaft in place. These need replacing with slightly bigger ones and that should do it. Squirrels unintentionally push the shaft out of its seating and its because the heads on screws provided are to small.

Having seen a wooden feeder destroyed very quickly, I wondered how long the perspex tube would last – however, my doubts turned out to be misplaced, and it is indeed up to the task.

Some weeks in, and we now have up to x 4 squirrels visiting at any one time, and they have all learned to use this metal feeder. It needs to be firmly secured in place, of course, and your peanut expenditure is bound to increase, but furry friends are worth every penny.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersMy little fellow loves his feeder he visits us everyday. He soon got the hang of it, I left the lid propped up for a few days to get him used to it. I also put a turned over pot in mine, I’m not sure he’d reach to the bottom so it would be a waste of feed. Would definitely recommend.

This is a good item as it’s made out of metal. Hoping the squirrels can’t chew holes in it like they have the others I’ve bought before. Good value for money too.

This is sturdy & quite robust. Easy to put up. Took the squirrels a few days to work it out but after putting a few nuts at the top to slightly raise the lid, they soon got the hang of lifting the lid and there’s no stopping them now. I have taken 1 star off as the squirrels can only reach about 2 thirds of the way down the tube. Not a major problem but will be a waste of food until we work out a safe alternative. Absolutely love watching them playing, eating, burrying & digging up the nuts.

Lovely item for the garden. Squirrels soon picked up the idea of how to use it. Bit difficult to get inside to clean properly. Did have to alter the lid as unable to open fully on purchasing

Great to be able to feed the squirrels without the birds getting in and taking all the peanuts …I thought. However, the lid is staying up after the squirrel has left and the birds as still getting the peanuts

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a really sturdy product, which I’m mostly happy with, but with a small issue.

My problem is with the lid, which keeps sticking in the open position. I managed to reduce this issue by spraying the moving part with WD40 but I expect this will have to be repeated occasionally. It was okay doing this before fitting the item outside but it will require care to prevent the WD40 getting on the mounting surface etc.

Other than that I’m happy with it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a really robust-feeling squirrel feeder. The metal it’s made from is thick and sturdy, and thickly coated in the green paint finish – which seems to withstand weather well, and should help to prevent corrosion. The standing platform is generous. The feeder tube is made from thick, clear plastic which allows the feed levels to be checked at a glance. This gets regular use from the squirrels visiting our garden.

The couple of small negatives I have found to this both relate to the lid. The lid only opens to about a 45 degree angle. This is fine for squirrels feeding, and seems to deter other creatures, but makes the feeder a bit awkward to fill without spilling bits on the ground. The second small niggle is that the lid hinges are quite stiff, so this doesn’t close itself terribly well after it has been used.

On the whole, though, I was pleased enough with this to buy a couple more.

I have been looking for a while for a squirrel feeder that the large birds in my garden cant dig holes into to get at the nuts. Plenty wooden one available which dont work. The woodpecker is very clever and finds the corners to peck at!! Hopefully this metal version will do the trick. This is also about 5 cheaper from this website compared to same thing on another site I had to buy from. Thanks

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersIt only took one day for them to begin eating from it and two days for them to start eating it.

I’m going to have to bodge something up, find some way to bend some metal over the top.

That would be a good design change to cover the top centimetre in a metal cap.

From watching my wildlife camera I think this chewing came about as they got so frustrated with lifting the lid up. It’s quite heavy which is good as it stops the wind lifting it up but I could see them getting more and more agitated with it and then the chewing began. The lid doesn’t close on its own so if it rains the food will get wet but I went out as soon as the rain appeared to close it. That’ll grow old quickly.

The cylinder is also too tall. Too akward for them to reach to the bottom and the food will be a messy mush by the time they get to the bottom lot. so I will have to rig something up inside to shorten the cylinder.

4.0 out of 5 stars They love feeding from it, a little too much

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this to distract the squirrels from climbing the slender bird feeder pole and doing their best to bite through the stainless steel wire mesh of the bird’s peanut feeder. I had previously read reviews about how to encourage the squirrels to use this feeder – but quickly. So I fitted it with just two screws at about 30 feet from the bird feeder but easily in view from the kitchen window at a point where I had, last year removed most of a self seeded Portuguese Laurel leaving an L shape. The sample nuts were instantly swiped by two magpies so, adapting from a review on here, instead of balancing a nut under the lid, I slightly overfilled the feeder so the lid wouldn’t quite close. The squirrels found the feeder on the second day, and on the third visit that I observed easily worked out how to use it. They dine effortlessly and almost casually with no thought at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant at doing it's job

An easy to mount squirrel feeder, sturdy, and does not take in any water, cleaning is not too easy but only takes a few minutes to remove the perspex tube. The paint on them has not started to chip or rust despite the rough treatment the squirrels give them, one small problem when they arrived was one of the metal hinges had not been machined properly and the lid on one of them (I purchased two) kept getting stuck open but it was nothing a little bit of Vaseline could not fix.

I have also found that they are saving about 30% of the money I was spending on squirrel food as none of the food gets soiled by rainwater as it did on my wooden feeders so I don’t have to waste so much feed. Good value and much better than wooden feeders.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersAfter my local squirrels destroyed 3 supposedly “Squirrel Proof” bird feeders, I decided to get this feeder for them.
It’s easy to put up using two screws, not supplied, like that it’s a keyhole type fitting, so it’s easily removed for cleaning.
Solid build with a platform for squirrels to perch on
Before filling just make sure the 2 small screws that secure the feed container are not loose, mine were, doubt I would find them if they fell off into the grass.
It didn’t take too long for squirrels to figure how to access food, it was fun watching them explore the whole feeder all round before realising they just needed to lift the lid.
There is one downside, if placed near the house, there is the constant “clacking” of the metal lid each time the squirrels dive in for food!
I tried glueing a piece of tubing around top of container to deaden the sound, but it didn’t last long.
But apart from that I am happy with this, as are the squirrels

Lasted one day before plastic tube fell off and was found lying on the ground. Tiny screws had been knocked out. This was solved by looping straightened paper clips between plastic and metal and twisted underneath. After the squirrels had used it the lid stayed up and the birds had a ball!! We screwed the middle support from a curtain pole about four inches above the lid which let the squirrels’dreep’ in and reach the nuts and the lid shut after them leaving the magpies unable to get to them. I thought the squirrels maybe couldn’t reach the bottom of the tube but all you can see is their tail sticking up and an empty container. So far so good and I have a garden full of confused and angry magpies and pigeons and squirrels giving them happy finger signs

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersWe have three squirrels that regularly visit our garden, the first one managed to figure out the lid within 2 hours of installation, and does a wonderful bottoms up when it gets low on food. The second squirrel took about a week to figure it out and the third who I think was a juvenile took around two months to finally figure it out.
It confused the blue ties as they could see the food but couldn’t get it, unless the squirrel left the lid up in which case they and a Robin flew in and out for food. The lid does occasionally get stuck up in a slanted position but eventually gets knocked back down. Its easy to install on two screws or nails and can be easily removed for refilling and cleaning. Watch put where you place it though as cats will stalks the squirrel box.
It has a coating which does chip but is generally hard wearing. Would definitely reccomend and have spend many hours watching the squirrels. We have used suet pellets, sunflower hearts and peanuts in ours.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFor the price I think this is excellent value, despite making a few adjustments based on other reviews here.

I spray painted it before putting it up, to add an extra coat to prolong its life. I only had silver paint and had no idea if that would make it more or less attractive, but I needn’t have worried. It took about ten days for the squirrels to start using it regularly, after I propped the lid open with some monkey nuts. They now know how to open the lid and extract the food.

I nailed it to a tree trunk, and the base is sturdy and large enough for the squirrels to leap onto.

LIke others have found, if the lid is fully opened it doesn’t always close shut on its own. So I glued a cork on the back plate and it now falls shut automatically. There’s a bit of a clang but it’s far enough from the house not to worry us, and I imagine it would be very easy to add a bit of padding to make a softer sound.

The birds stare at the contents like children at a sweetshop window. They can’t work it out but it’s fun watching them. I wonder how long it’ll be before the corvids have a go at it…

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersGood product once the Squirrels get use to it. I bought 2. The first one I put on the side of the bird table ( temporary) the squirrels took great pleasure in climbing on the bird house roof to lift the lid of the feeder. I then moved it to the back fence well away from the bird table. Squirrel knew it was there and were taking the monkey nuts out till just peanuts were left then they left it alone. I put the second one on the side fence and the same thing happened. But they kept going back to the bird table looking for the feeder after looking at the 2 feeders? They have been up for about a week. This morning we were awakened to the sound of banging lids. We have had great fun in watching the squirrels. I marked it down one because the lid comes down with a bang and sometimes stops up.We’ve been out today and both feeders are now 1/2 full. So a great success worth the money. Did look at a more expensive one but couldn’t see what was different. Glad I chose this one.would recommend. I did weave garden string round the foot plate as it’s slippery. Up date: We have had these feeders for sometime now. The Squirrels love them I refill them twice a week. We have a pigeon that try’s to get the nuts. Funny to watch it if the lid is closed. Yesterday we had a Jay I wondered how long it would take before it worked out how to get in but it didn’t, I would definitely buy this again they have given us so much pleasure. I have taken them apart to clean easy to do. The only fault I can find is the lid doesn’t always close.
