We used to live in Trinidad where you buy charcoal from folks who live in the forest, they sell it in bags by the road to Sangre Grande. This is even better than that, you can see the wood it was charcoaled from in the shape of branches and its lovely quality and burns a long time with intense heat. In fact now I have tried it will use less so it is in fact more economical than I thought. I went for the best and certainty got it. Pricey but good.

Great charcoal, lights easily and burns very very clean. Great flavour added to the food, I’ve tried an awful lot of different charcoals and this is one of my favourites. Lump size was a little small but that’s the luck of the draw with shipping/handling.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m a year-round BBQer and I’ve tried a lot of different lumpwood products. Usually I buy charcoal designed to burn for long periods of time, but prices have skyrocketed so I thought I would try this. Overall, I’m very impressed. It doesn’t burn for as long as the products I usually opt for, but I still had a reasonable amount of charcoal left over once I finished cooking a roast over 4/5 hours. This charcoal burns hot and clean and will be perfect for the average cook who wants to use a more premium lumpwood. It had a good array of sizes in the bag. No huge chunks, but not too much shrapnel either.

Worked well, but no added value. Will use if well priced! Many large pieces

I tried to use the end of the box – a lot of dust appeared from nowhere and smothered the fire.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHigh heat long lasting, very easy to build a bbq off of. I found it too hot for a quick bbq but i did expect it too be as its lump wood and not the briquettes from the store.
Will buy again, just dont have the weather for it here in Wales 😛

The full bag lasted for 5 bbq’s on a 3 foot long bbq, and 3 smaller ones all day.

A good lump for grilling hot and fast but I was a bit disappointed by the size of the lumps in the bag… Not big enough to deliver a long slow burn. But the taste and smell is great so perfect for a steak or a pizza cook!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI think this is the best cooking medium I have used so far! Used a starter chimney to get it lit, which was probably not needed, but after reading other reviews it seemed the safest bet, as we were cooking for 9 on the day. As soon as the charcoal was glowing, I spread it out across the grill & immediately covered it with additional charcoal. 15 minutes later it was set to go! The charcoal lasted all the time I was cooking & carried on staying hot enough to cook on, way beyond the time I expected.

Granted, this is not the cheapest out there, but it is well worth it. There was no flaming up off the charcoal when the fat was dripping down, so no need to constantly tend the food, stopping it from blackening too soon. The food had a great smoked taste & the temperature the charcoal burned at, ensured everything was thoroughly cooked through. Also I’ve still got more than enough left for another family bbq, on bonfire night!

I hope this is still on here next year because I definitely be back for more!

Good sized pieces although they could have been bigger given its described as restaurant grade. I used them to bbq a whole lamb so I needed high consistent heat. They don’t spit either.

A 12kg bag rather than 8kg would have been helpful.

4.0 out of 5 stars No small pieces, good burn, no sparking.

I’ve only really used those briquette bags before and these definitely make a difference. I have a big barrel-type bbq and i recommend getting a weber chimney, and lighting 2 chimney-fulls of this coal and heaping it in the middle. That will give you a couple of hours of intense heat and you can cook around the edge of it to cook food through without cooking on direct heat. No lighter fluid taste.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThese are great and we use them for home bbq-ing. Tried them with my Cobb and they also work well for that but you need to be aware that they took a bit longer to light and because they’re a real mixture of shape and size you have to do some work to get it right. They do burn hot for a long time once going.
