The artwork is beautiful and I’ve heard the 4K is amazing too, but these do not come with slipcases. I received mine and I haven’t opened it, I returned it because it had no slipcase. It’s something a lot of people won’t be bothered about but it’s something I personally like to have included.
A little warning for people thinking of purchasing and who want a slipcase 🙂

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersReally beautiful colours. The extra footage is really nice to see, though in some cases I can see why Kubrick removed certain scenes as they either give too much away or slow the story down. Must note I cant seem to find an option to watch the film without the additional footage which is a shame. If it had that, it would be 5 stars.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThere are few people who would have been able to act the role of Jack Torrance as well as Jack Nicholson, who, in my humble opinion is an outstanding actor.

It is rare that a film from the 1980s can be as good today as it was when it first came out, but I believe this is one of them. I bought the 4K version of this because I wanted to see this in jaw dropping colour on my 4K TV, and my old DVD wasn’t really quite up to scratch.

The quality of the conversion to 4K of this iconic movie was amazing, the colours were awesome and the picture clear. I was transported back to my teens when classic lines from the movie such as “Here’s Johnny” and “Redrum, Redrum” were spoken.

The credits were very old fashioned, plain in style, but the movie itself has, in my opinion, lost none of its suspense; it still kept me on the edge of my seat for nearly two and a half hours.

If you like horror movies, Steven King stories or Jack Nicholson, then you are bound to enjoy this blast from the past, especially in its stunning 4K reproduction.

A must watch for any horror fan. As for the transfer. There’s nothing to say. As of your into your movies you’ll know why this movie was crowned best 4k transfer of last year. It just looks stunning.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect transfer.

4K is so fantastic! I have watched this film , firstly at the cinema, then vhs, dvd and blue-ray. This classic film, on 4K, has an extra 25 minutes footage! Amazing, it’s like watching it for the first time! It’s been 41 years, but I don’t remember the extra scenes. I love 4K.

Well worth it for the extra footage. Brings more into focus why Jack Torrence loses it. 4K is a minor improvement over the 2K but it is a 40 year old film.

Classic film full of suspense and spookiness. Brilliant performance from Jack Nicholson who only has to look at you and you fill your pants. The 4K version was tops on picture quality but my disc suddenly paused at 2hrs but I managed to get it going again, also lypsync went out on a few scenes.

If you can get it at a decent price do it. But if you have a normal blu ray of it, you dont need this.

The picture is abit better but not enough for the price upgrade over standard blu ray.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersPossibly the best 4K presentation of a classic movie that I’ve seen. The image is pristine with fine detail in abundance and excellent use of HDR throughout. I thought the blu Ray was a great transfer but this is on a different level altogether. It was so beautiful I found myself distracted from the actual story! This and 2001 are both 5 stars and hopefully more Kubrick films will release in 4K soon. Highly recommended!

Stunning in 4K and with the added scenes. 4K can be a little hit and miss in terms of visual and audio upscaling but this is one that is markedly different.

Great 4K rework. Some clear grain at times but also some beautifully detailed close-ups and a lovely clear picture in general. With rich colours, making the most of the set design.

    A thing of beauty.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersHad to watch this again, and in 4k as I had seen Doctor Sleep the day before. I grew up with the likes of the Shining as a kid back in the 80s.

Now Jack smashing the crap out of the bathroom door with that axe, he has some acting prowess.

And saying that, Ready Player One made a fine recreation of The Shining as a large nostalgic piece in the movie.

Then my good friend reminded me of Homer Simpson’s version of The Shining.

This movie has a horror legacy like no other, the music score, crank up the volume with plenty of wattage, makes this so much more eerie in Dolby Atmos. This isn’t about tons of bass like some movies, the high pitched eerie music score is perfect and well conducted for the sheer desolation of the hotel horror.

I thought this was a terrific remaster of the film. It looks great, the film looks very open and it brings out some of the best cinematography in any horror film. And to add that this is the longer American cut of the film for the first time in the UK, I found this package to be truly special.

Golden Review Award: 53 From Our UsersWOW.
The 4K image, with Dolby Vision, on this disc is incredible.
Played through my Oppo 4K player on a 55” screen [ LG 4K] The Shining looks breathtaking.
Colour, luminance, resolution, dynamic range – total image perfection.
The increased resolution makes everything more visceral; I hadn’t fully appreciated John Alcott’s cinematography in the same way before seeing this disc.
The accompanying bluray looks terrific in its own right, but the 4K has the edge without question.
Astounding. A new benchmark for 4K.

Golden Review Award: 77 From Our UsersStanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ is a horror movie that has gradually grown on me. When I first saw this film at the cinema in the 1980’s I had mixed feelings about it. The portentous opening of the film as overhead camera shots followed a yellow bug car as it twists and turns through the awe inspiring scenery of forest and mountain, delivering the ‘wife and child hating’ Jack Torrance to the troubled Overlook hotel, has always impressed me, what troubled me was Jack Nicholson’s performance as Torrance seemed to go over the top towards the end of the film, I have never been a great fan of the “here’s Johnny” moment and to be honest I still think there are much scarier moments in the film. However having bought (the extended version) and viewed the film again I am becoming more intrigued by Nicholson’s performance, in one scene where Jack collapses to the floor after having had a ‘terrible nightmare of killing and mutilating Wendy and Danny’ his expression is fascinating, a combination of genuine shock and evil, I’ve found it increasingly rewarding to study Nicholson’s facial expressions throughout the movie. Kubrick provides other frightening moments of course, the general grandiose eeriness of the ‘Overlook’ the terrifying apparition of the two murdered sisters (for ever and ever) even the ball rolling out of nowhere scares, but to top it all for me the extraordinary typewriter scene (all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy) is both chilling and (for a horror film) unusual. My increased interest in the movie caused me to buy Stephen King’s much vaunted novel; I understand King hates the film, reading through every page of the book my respect for Kubrick’s movie grew, King’s novel is hopelessly longwinded, stretching at most 250 pages of material to nearly twice that length, plus it’s not particularly frightening, Topiary animals bring the book down again and again, yet King seems to love them, hedge lions, hedge dogs, even a hedge bunny-rabbit, for heavens sake, utterly risible. Torrance arrives at the ‘Overlook Hotel’ in King’s work as a loving husband of both wife and child, though possessing a temper and occasionally violent which the ‘Overlook’ exploits, in Kubrick’s version Jack is venomously sick of his family from the start, a venom the ‘Overlook’ exacerbates but is never entirely responsible for, Jack Torrance is well on the way to being the monster he becomes when he arrives. Danny’s special powers ‘the shining’ foresee the horror to come. I think Stanley Kubrick’s vision is far superior.

My favourite film has never looked and sounded so good. Huge improvment over the blu ray. Watching on a Samsung Q90 in HDR10+ was stunning, colours pop off the screen and you can see every detail in clothing etc. My gold standard of 4k blurays. This is what 4k and hdr can do for older movies, absolutley bring them back to life, looking better than ever.
