Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersRon and Russell have to be two of the most genuine, talented and humble of people in music history
Adored by other musicians and who are great influencers that have created their own unique sound that rivals any contemporaries past and present
For over 50 years giving, sharing and entertaining us surely that in itself speaks volumes
If for some reason you do not know Sparks.. you must listen too them and even more so, go and see them and spend an evening with them you will be far from disappointed and I would go as far to say experience something very special in the history of music

When I was young, I listened to them as an “English” pop group, but it turned out to be American. And not at all with a pop group, but something much BIGGER. In any case, it does not lack English humor Two talented and 1/2 crazy brothers!

5.0 out of 5 stars SPARKling DIAMONDS!

The best I’ve ever seen and as a fan from the beginning I’m going to say that .but don’t take my word for this insight into sparks look yourself and be amazed at these guys who had it bad / good and been treated with indifference through their musical career by an industry that is up it’s own ass and can’t see the ingenuity experience and professionalism of these guys who initiate change throughout their career going forward before their time .

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve always had a soft spot for this group. In fact they were the first band that I ever saw (Coventry ’74), and I remember them being great fun then. So when I learnt that they were to be the subject of a documentary, and a documentary by Edgar Wright no less, my interest was piqued.
Not enough to go to the cinema and see it, admittedly.
But when I saw it on blu-ray, that was it.
So what’s it like? I’m sure many will have seen it on Netflix or Sky by now, but if you haven’t then it is diverting viewing about a pair of brothers with drive, ambition and powers of perseverance. Sonically it is lush, the recording of the concert in the ‘extras’ being crisp and up there with the best in the genre aurally. (My interest shifted with punk and New Wave, so the material post-Propaganda was new to me).
I really enjoyed finding out more about a band from my youth, and I was pleased to find that they still come across as cool. Great if you are a dyed-in-the-wool fan, but highly recommended even if you are not or have only a passing interest in them.
This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us is still a banger btw!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is incredible value on Blu-ray. and must have for anyone with an interest in Sparks
You get two discs; on one disc a documentary and the other a recent live performance.
The live performance is impressive, the quality good and sound was very good for a live performance.
Russel has an incredible voice and range for a gentlemen in advancing years, he puts much more famous similarly aged singers to shame. I had no idea they had such a huge range of songs. There’s their classics (this town, Number one song in heaven, etc) and then the quirky but funny stuff (eg: Lawnmower).
Ron’s musicianship is equally impressive, but not as impressive as his famous dancing routine.
The documentary is fascinating. These guys have been going since the 70’s and have had such interesting careers and are clearly well respected in the music industry. I found the documentary entertaining but at the same time sad they’ve never really reaped the rewards they so deserve.

I bought this as a gift for my husband who is a big fan of Sparks, even though I myself are not a fan of their music I have to admit I really enjoyed watching this DVD. It’s a must for any Sparks fan.

Good value for money as there is a whole concert included. Very moving and amusing, plus a lot of original documentary features. It’s a long docu, but non-fans should not get bored because of the variety. Wright’s wit matches the humour of Sparks’ songs.
A great insight into these such underrated geniuses. Melody, wit and yet more melody. Hope it converts everyone to Sparks.

We still don’t know their romantic relationship status , though I expect they both may be “straight”, and maybe one of them could be a grandparent . This isn’t based on what this superb documentary reveals, it’s based on “Unaware” from the Hippopotamus album).
Nor do we get anything about their politics, though “can I invade your country” is seen as their only overtly political statement ( but listen to Alabama Right , Nothing is sacred anymore and more recently Please don’t f#@k up my world to get some idea of of their values and attitudes regarding society’s structure and quality).
Does this matter? We’ll , it does because if these subjects were taboo regarding the documentary going ahead, I think this shows how guarded the Maels are, or it shows a lost opportunity by Edgar Wright to broach the subject.
Otherwise, lots of great archive footage of Les Sparks, and a revelation of Ron’s preferred car! ( If you haven’t seen it, but know Girl From Germany, you might not be surprised that much as to what this is)
If haven’t got through the 2nd DVD yet, but the documentary is worth repeated watching. Great for dark chilly nights in or just chilling to!

Whilst not a massive fan of the band, this documentary changed my view of them and dissects their career in to an easy-to-follow film. The influence they created and the musicians that love them staggered me and it was amazing to see so many diverse artists collaborating on the vid.

I’m not the biggest Sparks fan, knew about them from my Dad when growing up and then a song they released when I was finding my own music. I never knew they had that many hits and so many styles, in awe of their career and they seem like really decent blokes. Brilliant warm and funny film.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve been a lifelong Sparks fan and this dvd is a total must for anyone who’s been a fan or for anyone who doesn’t know their history as well as for anybody who’s never heard of the band. For over 50 years Sparks have produced some of the most original and extraordinary tracks in pop/rock music. The UK took them to heart but this dvd package lets the rest of the world what we already knew. It’s a long documentary but it passes like it’s half an hour. Entertaining for any music lover.

I am a SPARKS fan over twenty five years this documentary is wonderful probably the best music documentary ever, Edgar Wright does them justice in his production
SPARKS are ahead of the game in the music business still today, compared to some of today’s younger artists they rise above them

A deep dive into the world of Sparks with Edgar Wright at the helm is a perfect idea on paper. And reality? Its perfect. The Blu Ray also comes with a fantastic disc of extras including the entire ‘One Night in London’ Sparks gig at The Forum – also shot by Wright. Fantastic value. Two thumbs up!

The documentary is amazing but as a lifelong Sparks fan I might be biased. Also comes with a bonus disc that contains a full amazing live concert and various other bits. Well worth the money

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIf it was your first introduction to these guys it is perfect as it gives a potted overview whilst presenting their brilliant eccentricity with their music catalogue playing throughout.
A group that have slipped under too many peoples music radar and this should bring them to a whole new generation of fans.
Their ‘collaboration’ with Franz Ferdinand is a genius blending of greatness.

This DVD is long overdue about the amazing Sparks. This is a comprehensive history of the brothers.Edgar Wright has done a fantastic job with this DVD, the live concert on the bonus disc is worth the price alone , if you love music this is a must buy you won’t be disappointed.

Totally brilliant documentary format on one of the most influential bands of our generation. Will convert any unbelievers out there. The bonus disc on the Blu-ray is indeed a bonus. An excellent concert with exemplary sound and vision. Look deeper and wonder why Weird Al Yankovic`s version of This Town etc was not included in the main feature. Essential

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersAbsolutely love this DVD. I like many others are so confused as to why these two guys never made the big time and am very pleased to know that finally they are getting some of the recognition they so well deserve.
This DVD is great value, you get so much for your money. The only thing that could make it better is to have Russell and Ron sat with me whilst I watch it. You could say, I am one very very happy bunny indeed. Oh, and did I say I am a Sparks fan. Linda

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAbsolutely brilliant.
I am not a great fan of music DVD’s etc as you don’t really get the feel of a show but this documentary comes over really well.
Whether a fan or not this tells a good story in the words of the band, fans and luminaries some of whom you would not expect to see on here
well produced , well thought out and well worth a viewing

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersReview of the Blu Ray version

A fab Sparks documentary from Edgar Wright. It’s long (nearly 2 hours 30 minutes) but it flies by. It’ll help if you are already a Sparks fan, but the numerous ups and downs of their 50-year career give the film a brilliant narrative thread that would entertain people who had never heard of them. The Blu Ray image is sharp (apart from the archive footage used) and the sound is excellent.

The live concert footage on the bonus disc is also excellent with the Maels backed by a brilliant band, filmed in London in 2018. Image quality and sound are fabulous.

If you are a life long Sparks fan you will love this. If you have never heard of Sparks before you will love this.

Finally, some long overdue recognition for the wonderful Mael brothers. The full length concert is worth the money alone.
