It works a lot better than most of the cheapo OBD2 scanners I have and it has become my go-to unit. Anytime I have a car or vehicle that I can’t get any reads off, I pop in this unit and it usually works. The only caveat is that for some brands like niche supercars, etc you need to pay for licenses to use all the advanced features.
Feels like the Panasonic Toughbook of OBD2 scanners and it so far has outlasted my ruffian handling of it and tossing it around.
8/10 I would recommend it. I hope this review was helpful.
Overall very nice and the included functionality is everything I would expect. It’s a little tricky to use, a lot of hitting the wrong button, waiting for it to communicate, then going back to try something else. Once you get to where you want then the functionality is great. Built in camera is pretty good but nothing crazy. OBD2 BT dongle has connected quickly every time without issues.
So this scan tool is actually better than my Zurich professional tool which I payed 1,600 for when it first came out. This tool has the same features that allow me to diagnosis a cars issues and comes with free lifetime updates which my previous tool did not. I actually really love and recommend this tool for the cost and features but the item that I was very disappointed in was that I have to pay for the Bi-directional features. The Bi-directional features are extremely important to have when diagnosing and actually trying to repair a car so I had to deduct one star.
A strong five-star rating is warranted for the Thinktool Mini 2 All System Diagnostic Tool due to its outstanding performance, easy-to-use interface, comprehensive system coverage, sophisticated functionality, wireless connectivity, compact design, wide vehicle compatibility, fast customer support, and multilingual support. The Thinktool Mini 2 is an indispensable tool for precise and effective vehicle diagnostics, regardless of whether you are a professional mechanic or a do-it-yourself enthusiast. Strongly advised for those looking for a dependable and feature-rich diagnostic tool to improve their car maintenance activities.
This diagnostic tool is great to have on hand. My husband has been wanting one for awhile so I chose this one. It works great and gives accurate readings every time. I’ve been having issues with my vehicle and my husband used it to find the problem. Well he found it and quick, so now we know what needs to be fixed and replaced without having to guess. It’s portable and easy to use, connected right away to our wifi and was ready to go. It has a ton of great free features, but some you do have to pay for. It’s simple to read and understand, and so far we’ve had no issues with it. I’m just glad we have it in case we ever need to use it again on his truck or my van. Very helpful, everyone needs one imo.
This is an awesome tool to have. It’s great quality. Reliable and comes in a nice case. It has free features but has paid features also. Even if you pay for your model vehicle features it’s cheaper than guessing what’s wrong and replacing the wrong part or taking it to someone else to run the same diagnostic test. It connects to wifi easily. Easy to use easy to read. Worth every penny.
I m a Toyota MDT and I have to give credit where it is due, the capability of this is very impressive for the money. I will say, you can tell it’s a global platform which makes the navigation through the tool very difficult. The only thing I can really knock it on is the navigation and ability to find things within the platform but it does do way more than most comparable scanners. It is also cool that it is wireless and there is a storage compartment for the dongle right in the tool.
I have to say it really does give you all the information you need to make a diagnosis on your vehicle. It took me some time to really figure it out. The price is a little high but for the information it provides you, it is worth it. Great gift for your auto mechanic in the family. Great for yourself, like me, who has 4 vehicles from 1 year old to 12 years old.
This is really impressive. Now all functions are not available for free. Some does require a fee. but there is a LOT of free functionality. And if you need some of those paid functions then you know what you pay for is cheaper than having the actual work done at the dealership.
I’ve already been able to use it to make life easier when changing the brakes on my ’16 Sonata. It has and electrically actuated parking brake which can be annoying when you are actually changing the brakes. These allows me to retract and reset it right in my own driveway. I’m able to use this on my Dodge and my Hyundai. I also used to it determine I need a new thermostat on my Hyundai again, right in my driveway.
It’s easy to use, the readout is a little small, but it’s not a huge unit to begin with. I really love that I got this!
For what you get right out of the box, this is great tool at an ever greater price considering you get a LIFETIME of downloads! Unfortunately… those downloads DO cost a subscription but as you get familiar with this, you’ll know which ones are relevant to your specific vehicle and that’s really all that matters. I was able to locate an ignition issue in my vehicle, get the code and fix it immediately so trust me when I say it’s already paid for itself. Overall, I couldn’t be more impressed with this product and I would highly recommend this
I got this mini diagnostic tool and so far I’m very happy with it. It is the easiest diagnostic tool I’ve ever used. It give you the choice to send a E-mail with the report. It comes with lifetime free updates which I thought was a great feature. Overall, I’m very happy with this product and I recommend.
The scanner does cost a lot, but it also does a lot and even with newer models vehicles. For what you’re getting and what you can do with the scanner the price is well worth it. Most scanners will just give you a few options causing you to purchase multiple scanners for the modules needed. Comes with lifetime updates, this alone is going to save me money by preventing me from buying another scanner. This OBD2 scanner is working great so far.
There are some things to like about it and some things left to be desired. The first thing that strikes me is the versatility of the tool. Not only does it come with a wide array of unidirectional and Bi-Directional scan options, but you can also purchase separately a lot of accessories for the device and many of their other scan tools. Some of these tools are a borescope, thermal imaging; however, the only one you can get for this model seems to be the thermal printer. I do appreciate the lifetime updates, but there are many features that you have to pay for, car maker by car maker. That is frustrating and can be about $50 per brand. I can understand paying for updates, but that seems like nickeling and diming people. The last thing I notice is that this tool is based on a Windows/Android platform and in order to connect it to a computer to do any kind of reprogramming it has to be windows based, there is no iOS compatibility. Outside of those things, it is an awesome tool for a very small mechanic operation or an avid home car mechanic.
This thing is better than I expected. It can be used on both the German cars and the American car in our household, and we tested it on two of them. My husband was getting a service light on his car, and the device let us know quickly and easily what the issue was. I didn’t have service lights, but ran it on my car anyway, and a few issues popped up. We cleared the codes and ran it again, and all was clear. This truly is simple to use and gives you feedback in plain language. We have another code reader that requires us to do further investigation, as it is largely unclear in its messages. That is not the case with this device. I think that is the advantage of having an actual larger sized tablet screen where information can be shared clearly. It also updates very easily. We did all of the updates straight out of the box. It connected to our wifi and downloaded everything. Easy. To charge it, it comes with 3 different types of plug adapters for different parts of the world. Great device!
This is a versatile tool. It is small and easy to handle. You just need to pay attention to all the different vehicle options to make sure you choose the right one you are working on. The simple bi-directional controls make it easy to test different functions. Being able to show a graph of the different readouts is very helpful.
The cons my husband has about this tool (him being a mechanic) is the screen is a bit on the small side. Trying to graph a few things at the same time makes it hard to read on the small screen. Each time you go into the diagnostic screen it pops up a screen about updates, even if the tool is full updated, before getting into the diag.
The main reason I got it was because it said it was able to program keys and fobs. Come to my surprise we had to pay the additional fee for the expanded functions to access key fob programming for my vehicle being a ’16 Chevy Silverado. If you are looking at special functions like that and others. Like it says in the descriptions call with your VIN and verify if you will need the expanded functions pack.
– NOTE: Not all service/special functions are available to your car. Please check compatibility before purchase.
– Note: Special Functions vary across vehicle makes, models, year. Please come to us with VIN number to check compatibility before purchase.
Both those Note lines are direct copies off of their description section.
To get this out of the way… Yes, if you’re using this professionally, you may want to consider the add on downloads for the models of cars you work on. I suppose it’s a good news/bad news situation where I believe you have to buy them one at a time vs a package. That can add up at the current 49.95/yr pricing.
You can retrieve diagnostic information without the downloads though, including reading data from various sensors. The interface is VERY familiar if you have an Android phone. Makes getting around extremely easy and intuitive.
Some features I really like that I’ve not seen people comment on are the ability to put in your information for your shop, add customers, and even generate reports for your customers to read. When you do a diagnostic, you can pull up the report and have an email sent to a customer email address where they can view a PDF of the findings. Very professional, without the need to set up any kind of email server, etc on your end.
The ability to add on various diagnostic hardware modules is a really cool feature for such a compact device. I’m not sure I’d get much use out of them but I can certainly appreciate their availability.
I had two bad experiences in a row with the ThinkCar OBD bluetooth dongles. The first was Thinkcar, the next was MuCar. They both sucked up huge amounts of space on my phone, and I had all sorts of troubles getting either one to work. Customer support was not very helpful.
But people tend to rave about the other ThinkCar products, and I’m glad I didn’t write them off completely, because this device is great.
It’s easy to use, connected immediately, and I was getting my codes within 5 minutes of unboxing.
Further, it has some great intuitive features. For example, when you snap a screenshot, it automatically puts them in a file for the vehicle you’re working on. So you can scan 20 cars in a row, and sort them out later. The back camera is very crisp, so you can include video or photos with your codes. It’s a ThinkCar operating system, but it works pretty much like a phone or tablet (ie, swipe down for settings).
It definitely does more than your standard OBD (for example, providing transmission codes). What codes it provides depends completely on the make and model. But if you want advanced features, you have to pay the subscription of $50 per year, per manufacturer.
I’ll also note, on other ThinkCar devices I had to register them, which was a challenge. On this device, I could use without registering. Also, they recommend updating the device as soon as you get it, but I didn’t. Based on my previous experience with this brand, I didn’t want to jinx it. I wasn’t working on new vehicles and didn’t think the update would be relevant. After scanning several vehicles, I didn’t notice any problems, so I may just skip the update.
