Was impressed with this unit, for the price, lot more functions than my previous one, covered everything I needed an a lot more.ideal for aston martin, bentley, maserati, and a lot more.
Simple an straightforward to use.,don’t think I’ll be using autel any more
Topdon Artidiag 800BT Great device!!
Great scan tool considering it works with multiple vehicle manufacturers (more than I’ll ever need). So far I’ve used it to clear codes on 6 different vehicles & only had to enter the vin manually on a 21 year old Clio. I particularly like the report function that can be emailed straight from the scan tool each report also provides a QR code that gives immediate access to the report online. I’ve used the ABS bleed and EPB functions on Mk3 Scenic and the window calibration function on a 2017 Discovery Sport, all of which worked with ease. For what I paid, considering the lifetime free updates I think it is worth it. Also it now comes with 32gb of internal memory not 16 as previously advertised.
This is a fantastic piece of kit, I wanted my own diagnostics because I was sick of paying the mechanics 70 a go for a plug in! This machine is easy to use, very quick and accurate and has already helped me with problems, it can do everything I need it to do (scan faults, clear codes, forced regens, key programming) it can do so much and can actually do more than the snap on’s and they’re thousands of pounds! If you’re thinking about this, just do it!
I recently purchase this device as I was looking for a tool which could reset the engine management lights on my BMW, I was previously using another manufacturer and threw the old one in the bin, the quality of this product was extremely good, the updates took some time to install but that is to be expected. However, this tool worked flawlessly and has a fab interface which is intuitive and user friendly.
Before purchase I contacted Topdon to confirm if unit was compatible with a Subaru XV and Bmw M2,, they quickly confirmed so I purchased unit and on arrival I easily cleared faults on these two vehicle’s with no previous experience of using diagnostic equipment, excellent bit of kit.
Plug in and go simple to use and has the ability to show you a video on how to fix the fault code only thing that is annoying is the beeping to remind you to remove the wireless connector.
Bought to troubleshoot ABS VSA TSA lights on a CR-V. Did scan, reported faulty abs speed sensor on a wheel (informed which wheel). 25 part replaced, unit has already paid for itself in the first 24hrs of ownership on garage diagnostics and repair bill.
Great bit of kit. Was purchased to code the Injectors on a Mercedes sprinter.
Simple to use. Has a large database of vehicles. If you want good diagnostic computer at a fraction of the cost. I would rate this device.
Considering what else you can get at this price point, it’s a pretty good deal. The free updates mean a lot to the value of this thing as other makes will have you paying 100s per year for this.
It can read trouble codes (& clear them), lots of data streams & also graph up to 4 items at once. There are some service functions you can also use.
I didn’t manage to get quite as much working with this unit as I expected but maybe that’s just the car I used it on. Still, it’s a useful tool. I also like how the hardware is sufficiently powered to operate the software and so it does not feel laggy to use.
So far I have no complaints about the operation and quality of this piece of kit
However I was little intrigued at a little box warning at the bottom of the advertisement which warns of the possibility of ending up with an Amazon return unit thus being second hand.
They give you an email address if it turns out that you end up with a second hand one with an assurance that they will replace it with a new unit. (Not amazon)
Nevertheless I ordered it with this in mind and took extra care on receiving the unit to film myself opening the box.
The unit was wrapped in industrial cling film with sellotape which was not a very professional this led to suspicions on my part that I had indeed ended up with a second-hand unit. Before proceeding any further I contacted Amazon customer services who unusually directed me to a UK person who although polite was quite officious and indifferent and told me despite having spent hundreds of pounds on this one unit that I had two options the one was to contact the manufacturer or accept a return email and refund on receipt of the unwanted product.
As I wanted to use the product that very day I was left with a conundrum did I remove the cling film to find out the condition of the product?
I also telephone TopDon UK who told me they have no connection with Amazon and were constantly having to answer telephone calls of the same nature inquiring about a new unit because of a suspicion of a second hand one. They were very helpful but as UK distributors themselves and not the manufacturers they could not advise me and that the manufacturers were in China.
Faced with this conundrum I had to concede that I was on the back foot with two options one fraught with risk.
I decided to take that risk and tear off the cling film. It was difficult to say if this was a second-hand unit or not when I decided to set the thing up and register it although I’m not sure whether I am the first person to use it. The good news is it did what it was supposed to do and found faults on r vehicle that I would not have otherwise been able to find had I returned and waited for a replacement which could have been over a week. Amazon have always been excellent regarding customer service and complaints however on this occasion I found the indifference an unhelpfulness disappointing. Full marks for the product mediocre customer service on this occasion.
I read many reviews about this product (TOPDON ArtiDiag800BT) before purchasing one.
Previously, I purchased the TOPDON AL500B OBD2 Scanner & Battery Tester, then, the TOPDON ArtiDiag600 in this past month of March 2023 and I noticed that these products have one thing in common, they are solidly made to last and have a smooth operational system and I mean as advertised by the manufacturer.
Now, this particular TOPDON ArtiDiag800BT that I am reviewing is about the best in the category of diagnostic tools by other manufacturers, I say so because, I have many and have used most top brands.
I used this (TOPDON ArtiDiag800BT) on many vehicles, just to check the capabilities as advertised and it exceeded my expectation.
This product is a must have for professional, semi professional and DIY mechanics and I highly recommend it.
I recently spent some time searching for efficient diagnostic tool which would provide either access to most common services and information and cover most popular cars brands. This Topdon tool was the latest one I tested and I was really hopeful for the satisfying results but…
As much I really like design itself, touchable screen, intuitive menu and all built in options there are for me unfortunately one big downside. This tools provides many options and for many could work really well but only if you need certain options for some certain few car brands. I expected really that all given options will be available for say 10 most popular car manufacturers and for rest could be selective and this is a bit issue for me that isn’t. I hope Topdon will improve this to create device which will work for more cars especially those most popular for each service listed on this device.
The first launch and activation of the software without any problems.
Software update, software of supported cars and components damages without any problems.
Good quality and fast responding LCD screen.
Support 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi network.
Supports screenshots as well as recording screen videos.
Web browser for finding solutions to more complex faults.
Database of customers and diagnosed cars.
Professional cars scan report generator. Easy connection of the device with the wireless VCI adapter.
When scanning is complete, a visual and acoustic alarm reminds you to disconnect the adapter from the car. A handy place to keep the adapter into device.
Multi-language support.
Automatic recognition of the brand, model, year of production, engine type, car drive version (VIN scan).
Good quality carrying case with handle included.
Finally managed to activate the device. In the manual it said you could input your details with the engine running or just with the ignition on. I had been trying with the engine running but decided to try with ignition on only. The device activated straight away. Unfortunately still no response from customer services hence the 4 stars.
So far this little diagnostic kit has prooved itself a “must have” item for the enthusiast and DIY-er.
I have 14 vans and cars in total, diffrent brands and this diagnostic tool did not failed me.
What I’ve done so far:
– Ford DPF static regen (did not find any other tool that can do this except Forscan paid plus the cable)
– Ford AdBlue reset
– Peugeot AdBlue reset
– Mercedes Auto gearbox resetting
– VW diagnostic, error checking and deleting
– BMW error checking and deleting
– many more.
Would higlhy recommend the tool, in the last 2-3 months has had many updates so it’s clear that Topdon are working on improving an already amazing tool.
Ex garage owner here now retired. I just wanted to do some light work and maintenance to my household cars. The first attraction was free updates. After years of spending thousands as a business on updates this was really refreshing
Usage is easy. Although backing out of a menu can a pain as it often asks if I want to exit that particular diagnostic. This means restarting the whole detection process.
To be fair it could be me not being familiar with it. And it’s just a system update by the manufacturer if they see it as a problem. I don’t just occasional inconvenience.
So far it’s worked on all my cars very well indeed. With one exception.
I have a 2000 p38 Range Rover and it doesn’t communicate well with that. Basics are fine but things like suspension etc doesn’t seem to work. I’m hoping I’ve missed an update.
All in all good tool. Looks more expensive than it is screen is great and once connected to a fast bus it’s really gets things done.
Small garages will benefit from this tool.
I’ve spent a long time trying to decide which automotive scanner to buy for my personal use.
I own a 2016 Volvo V40 and as I service the car myself I decided to look for a good OBD2 scanner for any future problems that may occur,
The scanner needed to have as many original maintenance features that the Volvo technicians have available to them,
The artidiag800bt scanner has 28 maintenance features available, the trouble is , the majority of the features don’t work on the 2016 Volvo V40, the scanner is only slightly more useful for the V40 than a OBD2 scanner that costs 25,
The problem for me is, Before I ordered the scanner I emailed Topdon my vin number and car details to check compatibility, their answer was, yes the scanner was fully compatible and there were many maintenance features available and lifetime updates.
It does have lifetime updates but if they don’t work with my car it ends up as a very expensive doorstop or paper weight.
I’m just glad I didn’t spend a lot more on a bi-directional scanner.
Update 14th April 2022.
Since leaving my original review on Amazon Topdon support reached out to me about my purchase, Topdon support show a lot of interest in customer service, which is nice in itself. I’m impressed.
The scanner does operate very well for normal OBD2 functions, after spending more time with it I’ve found some of the special functions that don’t work on my 2016 Volvo V40 will work on earlier 2015 and 2014 model years, so maybe these features will be updated later with the lifetime updates for my car, I hope!
For general servicing the unit is fine for me, it does read live data so any future fault finding shouldn’t be a problem.
Battery life seems to be very good too.
I decided not to send the scanner back as I couldn’t find out if any other brand of scanners would work with my car so there would be no point in changing,
With useful future updates I will be happy with Topdon. I’m told this will happen.
I will know more with future use.
Really happy with this scanner!
After searching forums for a week to see what was in my budget and what you can get for value this was the top choice.
Since buying this it has shown it’s worth and can tackle codes other scanners can not as it can read dealer specific codes.
The tool is exactly what I was looking for and would recommend it with out hesitation.
Please note this is more than just a quick home use scan tool that you can get for 40. But this is a mechanic grade tool that you too could have at home and save money diagnosing your own issues.
I’m a DIY mechanical minded person that likes to solve my own issues and this showed me issues that other scanners such as icaraoft & foxwell & snapon did not see !
All in all great scanner – free life time updates – easy to use.
Bought this OBD2 reader for 1 main reason – to reprogramme a replacement remote key to the car (Astra J 2015) to simply avoid having to pay dealer / auto key fees which would be about 50% of the price of this tool – i figured I would rather have the tool that can do the job if it costs a bit more that dont matter so much
As often happens the key fob breaks with overuse – the spare key was non remote version
when I replaced the key blade into an aftermarket housing and then tried to use in car a warning came up about vehicle security and hazards began to flash as key wasnt programmed to car any longer so after few weeks of using non remote key i plunged for this tool and within 15 mins i had programmed the new key and it was working as it should
it also checked for error codes and cleared oil reset remotely and i am looking forward to cut another key for Astra and put it in to my other vehicles which are older VWs and see how it works on them
would recommend to buy if going to spend money anyway on dealer repairs – im no mechanic and system easy to use if know how to use a tablet and understand some vehicle systems it will be money well spent in long term
The worst thing was registering but once up and running it did what I needed it to do. I have already got an obd tool but this is on another level. Delivery was fast, next day. So much can be done with this tool the diagnostics is great and it can reset all the warning lights my old obd couldn’t. This is a midrange tool so the cost is more expensive than the cheap obd tools you can get from most places. Would I recommend. Yes I would. This tool is ideal for the serious DIY enthusiast who needs something to do a bit more than just turn off a few annoying warning lights and would probably be very useful for a small business too.
The system is quick and easy to navigate across, connecting to a vehicle is very simple, and didn’t feel like it took forever to do so on the cars I have used it on so far.
Updates for the available bands is a button press away. Also nice to see you don’t have to download every brand either especially if you don’t need it.
Check for faults codes was simple roughly around 1-2mins read a car maybe more or less pending the amount of systems you need to read.
Running live data is good as well, there’s a few seconds of delay but nothing major. Can also choose which data you want to see/record, although you have to exit then go back in if you want to change what live data your reading.
Also noticed some metric/imperial readings do not change: Degrees C/F. Maybe they’ll be an update in the software at a future date. Being able to change the time to a 24hour format would be nice too.
In regards to the feel and look, my only major gripe is the grip/handle where the OBD dongle sits I wish it was the same for the other side to even it out. You can flip the screen so there is a compromise.
Maybe also a detachable strap of some kind would be good.
Not sure if you can use a pen (stylus) have not tried.
All in all, this is a great bit of kit and I am happy with the product, I hope a update to the firmware comes soon just to fix those little gripes. Would recommend to anyone in the trade.
A very good cable free on board diagnostic machine. This obd also has wifi built it in and the obd socket is bluetooth. So everything is competely wireless.
When switching the computer on the first time you will need the serial number and passcode to proceed. Which is in a card in the box. Once this is done you connect to your wifi and and the you can update all the software and any updates it has for vehicle models. This comes with free up dates for life! I have an older handheld obd. Which doesnt have wifi and I have to plug into a pc and update from there which is a hassle and time consuming. So this machine is brilliant for easy up dates.
Everthing is touch screen on the device. Is charges via usb c, there is a plug provided with different country plug pins. There is a good tough case provided to store the machine.
The obd socket is wireless with bluetooth. It charges when connected to the machine and on charge. Once you find your odb port in your car. You plug in and the machine will automatically find your car. It bleeps to remind you to remove the obd socket when you finish.
My friends Vauxhall Insigna 17 plate had an Engine Management light come on. This found the code right away and said it was a clutch pedal fault which you can see pictured. This deleted the code and has not come on since. So this machine will pay for its self rather than going to a garage.
Good value obd. With free updates for life. Very simple to use. All wirefree and updates though wife. Its one of the best obd’s ive used for the price. Would highly recommend
