This is a very impressive piece of kit when you get to grips with it.
I have used it to do static dog regeneration a couple of times. It’s a shame that the instructions are not a bit more detailed but with patience it does work out.
A garage charges 50 for a dpf clean, minimum, so it’s virtually paid for itself already.

So for years i been using these cheap china obd’s I mean get what you pay for right.. Im no garage im just the end user, in other words i hadn’t a clue how to switch it on, but once i did, the screen told me what to do, connected to wifi, pick which car, the unit self updates . So plugs into the car, hit auto button, boom 9 faults, simple buttons to read code numbers, tap on it, then goes on line finds part that’s needed for the car. At first i was a bit apprehensive at spending this kind of money 300 i think it was… Best ive ever spent, no more having to believe what a garage tells me… it does everything that has a connection port, Motorbikes, tractors, etc etc

This obd scanner does the job as expected. Loads of updates to download especially after first start so be ready for a long updating process but after that it works perfectly fine

I don’t normally leave reviews but because it is a good bit of kit I thought I should. I could not erase faults on my 2012 Ford Galaxy tdci due to dpf issues. I removed dpf and used wynns dpf cleaner to flush out the soot particles and then refitted. After refitting I tried to erase codes with different readers with no joy. I decided to bite the bullet and buy this but of kit due to the fact it was advertised as having the ability to do static dpf regeneration. After spending 15min setting this up and plugging in to my car it did not disappoint, regenerated dpf in around 35mins. I then erased stored codes with this and now car is out of limp mode, very, very happy! Great bit of kit!

It’s doing some jobs but some of them not
Its difficult to navigate and it’s very slow
In the same time think that are not the high price one.
For the money you pay are not that bad.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt helped me identify two error that I could fix myself. It already paid for itself.
It does connect to mobile hotspot and you can change the network if needed, so ignore reviews which says otherwise. When searching for mobile hotspot, if the name does not appear on the list, click on the add button. Enter there the name of your mobile hotspot, then press ok. Search again for networks and your mobile hotspot will appear there. Select it, press to connect, enter password… Ta daaa.
Can you imagine that other people did a reset on their device to be able to connect to another wireless network?
Used it on a Dodge Caliber 2007, Jaguar XF 2013, VW Polo 2006. Updated when prompted, detailed error found immediately. I don’t know why I bothered with cheap OBD2 scanner all these years …

Been using this item now for 2 weeks, it’s been really good it did fail to read a 2001 jeep Cherokee but so did the snap on machine. Other than that it’s been spot on managing to read a 2007 Mini Cooper 2006, 2008 Ford st, 2005 VW T5, 2016 Kia Sorento and a 2010 Vw golf

Doesn’t have as many options as the snap on or the autel but with price in mind it’s very good and I will be taking it with me on track days for code reading the mini and logging data as it’s perfect for tha

Very impressed with this little diagnostic tool. It’s nicely built, feels rugged and well made, doesn’t need to be treated too delicately. Easy to use even for me, who’s not particularly experienced with these scanners. And gives you loads of info that saves a ton of time and hasstle!

I’ve been testing it out on a car from 2005 so it may well be able to do even more on a more modern vehicle. It connected easy enough found various fault codes, reset the ABS light / cleared the fault codes. Was able to record data logs from individual sensors while driving. Could force a DPF regeneration and a load of other features I didn’t fully test out. When reading the fault codes it seemed able to be more specific then the cheap fault code reader I’d used before on the same fault. It isolated the fault to a wheel speed sensor on the front right wheel. While the cheap code reader just told me a code not the specific wheel. It can also connect to wifi and google the fault code for you, which is a nice touch. Was then able to confirm the fault code by watching live data from all 4 wheel speed sensors and driving, showing that the front right definitely wasn’t doing much. That should make fixing the problem / confirming it’s fixed a lot easier when I get around to it.

All in all, it’s straightforward to use, well built, does way more than I’m likely to need it too, and should save a load of time and hasstle with a lot of jobs.

I had this on test as I have several cars so wanted a scanner that is better than the 30 eBay specials.
On unboxing I was a little disappointed that there was no case to store in but not the end of world. Feels nice a robust with good protection on corners incase of dropping.
Powers up in good time and I like it charges while plugged into the OBD port.
You need access to WiFi on first start up and any time you want to download the update for a new vehicle type. But you can power up indoors and select the manufacture and pre download.
I have used this on my 2018 Audi RS3 (although no codes, it reads the ecu and connects no issues)
My 06 Range Rover, connected perfect and found codes and cleared some old stored codes.
Also my friends 13 plate Vivaro, found and cleared codes, also gave him some to permanent codes that he can now go an look into.

In all it’s a very cable reader which will display many lines of live data so I’m sure should I need to look at the perimeter’s on the sensors it should be fine.

It’s is not a professional level scanner, as there was a steering angle issue on my Range Rover that it was unable to read. If it dose have access to that section, I’ve not found it yet.

All in all, if you are a keen DIY mechanic this is a very capable scanner and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great unit for diy mechanic.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersFor the price it’s got many features even more expensive code readers don’t have.
From a technical point of view, it provides even the fault codes and manufacturers sub codes that many fault code readers can’t read. These can be really useful in pinpointing specific issues. Worth it for that feature alone!

It doesn’t read ALL module as many cars have complex systems (entertainment systems etc). But it does read the main engine/abs/transmission/DPF/battery monitoring systems.
Basically the critical systems that could help identify why your car isn’t running properly or is displaying a fault.

But the ability to email and log live data to review later is also a great feature.
You could Wi-Fi connect at home or even use your phones hotspot if you were out of range.

I’ve scanned my Discovery 4, Mini CooperS and Vito can and all seems to bring up good information.

There’s a feedback feature if something doesn’t work as expected so it looks like they’ll be continuing to update the tool well into the future as well.

For sub 200 it’s pretty good system.

    Hope that helps!!

Great easy to use tool. Being an older gentleman I sometimes find using some modern technology a little daunting but this tool was a dodle! I quickly found out the fault I was having on my BMW and erased it easily and saved having to pay a rip off garage who wanted to charge 100 just to plug in!

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersUpon opening the box its neatly presented, unfortunately it does not come with any permanent case for it to go in. Initial powering up was fairly quick. First thing to note is that it has a internal rechargeable battery – very useful so you can explore all the functions without having to have it plugged into a vehicle or mains power, this alone makes it a step above any other OBD reader I have had in the past.

The reader is about the size A5 piece of paper and feels well made. the buttons have a nice feel and “click” to them. A big plus is the 5″ colour touchscreen, it’s got good sensitivity, very responsive and with no lag.

A very handy feature is the built in WiFi, able to update wirelessly. This is a great function that my previous OBD readers have not had which was always hassle when it comes to updating the device, whereas this reader you can carry out any updates and leave it to do its thing.

Although something to note about the WiFi is that It doesn’t allow you to change from the original set up network you connected to when setting up the OBD reader (couldn’t find any instruction on how to change network once the reader is set up and in use) only way i found to change network is if you do a factory reset. Also it will not connect to mobile hotspots off Mobile phones .

Going through the settings I find more useful features: the ability to screenshot and screen record. The amount of times in the past I’ve had to write figures or codes on my arm or on a note on my phone, this feature alone is going to save me from ink poisoning XD

A good function is at the top of the screen in any mode you have a constant active battery voltage reading which you can click onto and it gives you a graph of the voltage second by second (attached a picture of what it looks like when I start a car) very handy so you can keep an eye on whilst carrying out diagnosis

In summary a couple brief pros and cons:
Pros – it’s a very capable OBD reader with lots of great functions, lifetime updates, WiFi connectivity and has a great touchscreen

Cons – no carry case, the OBD cable is permanently attached to the top of the reader and cannot be remove so isn’t particularly slimline to store, unable to swap between WiFi’s and unable to connect to mobile phone WiFi hotspots

Overall I would definitely recommend though, well done Topdon for doing a top job with this product!

Great bit of kit for the money. I’ve always used cheaper readers that don’t always find or delete fault codes. Very nice hadle and use, very clear instructions and user friendly menu equipped with alot of handy features and function like oil reset, DPF regen. and much more, which ill probably never use, however professionals will have a field day. Does everything and more than more expensive scanners would do. Definitely recommended for mechanics and motor enthusiasts.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersPlease check with TopDon Support before you purchase if there are specific advanced features you need.
I bought this on the understanding from the sales material to use on a Mercedes E220D to put it into Regen mode on the DPF. Although the box claims it can regenerate a Mercedes it doesn’t cover all years/models.

Topdon’s support have been very apologetic and really helpful trying to identify a model that would regenerate a 2018 E class DPF but the model in question is their Phoenix Plus scanner that’s over a grand so declined to upgrade and had to send it back.

This is the first professional kit I have bought.
It was well worth the money and much better that lugging a laptop around to get full diagnostics on a compact device it does everything.

I highly recommend you won’t be dispointed.

This also work with hybrid cars too which is a big bonus

I’ve only ever used small Bluetooth devices to check codes and information on my cars but this a whole step up I love it. With this device you can check information such as mileage discrepancy’s which are not on any databases which I find really beneficial for when I go look at a new car I’m looking to buy. The touchscreen is grate and the amount of different tools you can access is perfect one thing to mention though, it is not a simple device to use you need to spend a bit of time with it and get your head around the device as it is really advanced. I really like it I would recommend anyone to purchase this.

Very easy to use and very impressive automatically finds the vehicle vin to allow you to run all sorts of diagnostic tests live stream of data is extremely accurate and easy to read and I really like the fact that when a code is found in vehicle memory you can click on the code and it will take you straight to Google and search the code to help find the best solution and more information for you

What can I say except amazing and work faultlessly, I’ve used this on vauxhall, peugeot, volkswagon & ford and it worked perfect everytime. Easy to use and if you every get stuck instructions have everything covered you can go wrong with the piece of kit!!
The only downfall I would say is a carry case as the box will eventually get batterd but I’m sure u can buy these separately.

Had a minor issue, but received amazing customer services from the Topdon team.

The scanner needs updating, but to do so took about 20 minutes to install updates for all cars..

Once installed I tested on two cars and both times it found the car automatically. I did a scan and found one problem, which I then reset.

I bought this for when we travel round Europe in a campervan. Well impressed!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersHaving used many automotive scanners over the years that can be awkward to use due to their size and that require expensive updates, I wanted something compact and easy to use that came with free lifetime updates. On paper the Topdon Artidiag 500S seemed to tick all the boxes, so I ordered one in the hope that it would suit my needs.

For the price I’m very impressed with the scanner. It reads all available car modules, but specifically deals with engine, transmission, ABS and SRS. Most people will never need to look at anything else other than these four systems. It’s not common for a scanner at this price to do ABS module activation for bleeding the ABS module after disturbing the braking system. This is a great feature normally only found on more expensive scanners.

Having plugged my Topdon into 9 vehicles to date, I’m confident of its capabilities when it comes to reading codes and communicating via multiple different protocols (canbus, KWP etc). Again not many scanners are this versatile at this price. It’s ideal to keep in the car for those just incase moments, and the built in OBD code lookup is very handy for quick reference.

The scanner itself seems well made and feels like a quality item. I own and have used other items from the Topdon brand, and despite being relatively new to the automotive tools and equipment scene, they are obviously taking themselves quite seriously.

It’s hard to become well established in a market flooded with offerings from various manufacturers, but the ease of use of Topdon equipment and scanners makes it very easy to recommend Topdon as a brand. Their tools seem to be very intuitive and simple to use. As a qualified automotive technician, I’ve used all sorts of scanners from cheap and cheerful to top end. The Topdon Artidiag 500S is a great scanner that anyone could use, and would be an ideal entry level device for those looking to further their understanding of automotive diagnostics.
