Bit of a challenge installing, however that was due to my PC rather then the product. Instant internet access get speed of 150/Mbs in my room, before it struggled to get 5 on Ethernet!
Good value for money, plug and play with msi 550-a-pro motherboard. I was using to link ethernet powerlink and was only averaging 22mbps, with this set up I’m getting about 68mbps and it is approximately 30 feet through a solid concrete wall away from the router.
The TP link works very well both for wi-fi and blue-tooth. I am pleased with the service and the product. It was just a little bit pricey but I have no complaints about the item itself
Was always hesitant about using any WiFi connection with my PC as I was gaming and using stock market so had to be sure connection is always uninterrupted. To my surprise this works just as well as cable connection, ping 10 and no issues since installed last month. Thought cable would be too short and I will have to move it closet to router but I have it behind my monitor and BT Hub is through the door and down the stairs so few walls between them and it’s still working flawlessly. No drivers needed, just plug and play! Just had a minor issue for it to be recognised but connected ethernet cable for a minute and card seemed to have been picked up by the system then. I could have been doing something wrong though. Still solid 5 stars.
Easy to install even a complete noobie to computers could fit this. Its working fine and ive now got a stable and fast connection to the Internet in a room in my house which usually gets poor signal but not with this little beauty. I would definitely recommend to anyone whos looking at getting decent wireless connectio
As it is 2.5gbit, it has 2.5x the performance of the standard gigabit you find on most devices.
However, as it’s a pcie card, it will take some extra time to install over something such as the usb c version but but it’s reliability will greatly be improved.
Please note that if your installing one of these for yourself, your network switch and ethernet cable need to be capable of 2.5gbit to take advantage of this card to its full 2.5gbit speed, otherwise it may run at 100mbps or gigabit, which negates the upgrade all together.
Thankfully, cabling shouldnt be a worry for most people as you can use some older Cat 5e you likely already have lying around or connected to your existing system.
I can confirm it works brilliantly with Virgin Media’s Superhub 5 which has a dedicated 2.5gbit port on the back.
I am on a 500Mbps internet connection that normally exceeds this with a cable connection, I am not able to run a cable to my office and so brought this to provide a connection. Install was simple and straight forward with drivers being picked up upon plugging in with Win11.
The connection speed was around 300Mbps which is not bad when on wifi in my house and the bluetooth is perfect. I was expecting the signal to be much better with what was stated on the box but can only guess the speeds listed on the box are for ideal communication with no obstacles or obstructions as you get in the real world. The magnetic base of the antennae unit is a very nice touch.
I would recommend this as it does a good job of providing both bluetooth and wifi to a PC that does not have either installed.
My upload speeds had dropped to really low even though it is network cabled. When i turned it to wifi instead the speeds increased so I new the problem was with the network card. I bought this and from delivery to having it running again was 10 minutes and back to decent speeds again. It does what it should and was quick to fit.
The card is fast and stable. It connects to 5ghz and 2.4ghz without a fuss and maintains stable ping times (something which the TP link USB offerings can fail to do especially on 5ghz mesh setups where you can get regular 3s+ pings every 10 seconds or so).
The Bluetooth connected without issue to my galaxy buds 2 pro and maintained a stable solid connection.
The only downside is that the supplied cables are frankly too short, they should have been 1 meter long to allow better placement of the aerial set and not the measly 50 cm or so. So if you consider buying this (and its a good buy for sure) then also consider buying a male to female cable extension (two leads needed), but this adds another 8-10 in cost depending on the length of extension required.
My brand new motherboard ethernet adapter is not working and the seller was being difficult about returns. I bought this to try to patch the issue and it is perfect. Allowed me to cut ties with a no good motherboard producer, and make me feel like I didn’t waste 250 on a defective part. Good job TP link, always there to save the day.
I recently upgraded to gigabit Internet so I had to change my network card to take advantage of the new speed.
I really liked the ease of installation. Windows detected the new card and installed the drivers automatically.
My new router is not in a very good position (behind my TV!) But even with this impediment im still getting speeds of over 700mb vs the old card which had speeds of 450mb.
Also worth noting is that the cable for the antenna is actually a decent length so I was able to set it in a good position on my desktop.
I would recommend this card if you are looking to upgrade to WiFi 6 and have the line speed to take advantage.
Works well and the antennas have a cable and a magnetic bottom so they can be positioned easily AND attached on metal things. Connects to network instantly on startup.
Has a wide array of settings, including one that you can set it to prefer 2.4/5/6 GHz, although in the end I just had to tell it to use 5GHz only.
Windows wouldn’t recognise it without the TP-LINK drivers (unlike previous WiFi cards), so I had to download and send them over from my phone, I advise you do that beforehand if possible. They also come on a CD but nowadays that’s rarely useful.
The Bluetooth connection takes a whole USB pin slot on the motherboard. I had one lying around free but if you have added additional USBs to your build it might not be a feature you can easily use.
I moved to a new home. I wanted to get rid of my Ethernet cable that was directly connected to my ISP’s modem/router without routing cables through the walls (or rather my wife wanted me to stop making a mess of the floors with cables!). I’m on a 350Mbps connection, and wanted to keep some semblance to that speed.
I was, or still am, looking at routers which would replace my default issued ISP modem/router, but before biting the bullet with an expensive (300+) top-of-the-line router, I wanted to try a modern PCI-e adaptor with the latest standard in Wi-Fi tech. I wanted a Wi-Fi 6 compatible adaptor to ‘future-proof (oh how naive)’ myself. Therefore I was looking at adaptors with Intel AX200 chips, but I also wanted to find one with freely placeable antennae.
To preface, I was sceptical of Wi-Fi adaptors due to my prior experience. To put into context, my wife’s desktop in the same room with a 3 year old Netgear adaptor gets around 60Mbps (out of an ISP rated 350Mbps). I’ve never seen ISP rated speeds using Wi-FI adaptors versus direct Ethernet connection. I had an inkling that this may be due to the antennae being in a poor position because they’re directly connected to the PCI-e bracket.
Out of the AX200 chip-set adaptors, this one was one of the few that had an extendable antennae. I also chose this one because I have heard of TP-LINK in the past, others were unfamiliar brands (not to knock them, they could be great!).
Much to my surprise – with the correct positioning of antennae – I am able to receive my ISP’s rated speeds one floor above my ISP’s modem/router. The movable antennae is great because I can fix it onto the front of my desktop with its magnetic base to get a strong reception. I would say that the antennae’s cable length is slightly smaller than I anticipated – it’s around a meter or a bit long, but it was enough to reach the desk and other places in close proximity.
Will, or should I, buy a Wi-Fi 6 router after using this adaptor? Eventually, yes. Our household has an increasing number of devices, some of which already are communicating over the new ‘6’ standard. But for now I shall wait until the router offerings become more mature and tested. I am currently happy using this adaptor with an older 802.11ac (Wi-Fi 5) standard router.
I will knock off a ‘star’ for value for money. It is 60 quid, and a lot of the other AX200 offerings float around 30-40, albeit without the extendable antennae. I was Umming and ahing whether to get this compared to a cheaper fixed antennae card, but in the end I am pleasantly surprised, and will be buying another for my wife’s desktop.
I just wanted to write this because I was in a predicament with all the various PCI-e cards floating around, and was genuinely happy with this type.
I am unable to comment of the Bluetooth functionality – I have no desire for my desktop to have it.
