I’m putting together a network in a parish hall – where a couple of POE cameras are going to be connected, along with a POE VOIP phone system. Having 8 ports available as POE has been very useful, and although we haven’t needed to make any amendments – there are options to prioritise POE ports if needed. A decent bit of kit with easy to see/read LED indicators. And it works.
Great little PoE switch sits on the top of my desk connected to a Powerline adapter. It’s always handy having close proximity wired network connections, even better when you can power small devices from it! Combined with a PoE network/microusb splitter, this does wonders of keeping my Raspberry Pi powered without the need of more plug sockets!
The easiest switch/extender there is? Run out of ports, then just add this, fantastic for CCTV POE cameras. I’ve 8 POE cameras, so just added two of these, far cheaper than an 8 port POE switch.
Great little (well relatively small) switches that I use for IP CCTV systems. I use them as they have an external power block and not a plug-in power supply, this makes it easier to hide the switch in ceiling spaces and wire to a fused spur.
I will be buying more in the future. This made my life this week awesome!!! I expect commodity in time to the logistics very quickly, I hope I will always use it, this is a worthy purchase. Quality goods, good quality, low price, high sexual price comparison, affordable, value for money, the friends all say very good. The boss had to service enthusiasm. Received this as a gift. Very impressive and chuffed with it. Well worth it. great, I m buying a second one
Good little switch, also has POE (power over ethernet) which is great for CCTV cameras and phones that use a switch to get power.
TP-Link are generally good quality and i can reccomend this for a small room or home cctv kit.
Worked really well to power some Mitel 5312 IP phones i had but no power over ethernet in that section of the office so this worked a treat to split one data connection between 3 phones that were powered using the poe ports.
A good little router, my only beef is that it only has 4 PoE ports. The other 4 are non PoE standard ones. Rather have all PoE with a total current limitation, although can see the argument for having four standard ones as well.
It’s a well made unit and it provides power over ethernet nicely for my 3 IP cameras. The only problem I’ve found is that it locks up regularly (approx once a week). I’ve solved this with a timer plug that power cycles it every day. It’s not ideal but considering the price I can live with that. Overall I’m still happy
Have used about 6 of these around the office where we were short or network wall points for POE phones, 6 months in and they have all been fine. Would recommend. Matt @ BizWiseIT Computer Suppo
Great product. Works flawlessly. I am using it to power 4 outdoor cameras each connected through its dedicated TP Link POE splitter and the combination has been running flawlessly on a 24 * 7 basis for the past couple of weeks. Quite fit for purpose. Highly recommended
Seems to do the trick – my first attempts at PoE, using it with the TL-POE10R splitters.
Note, one thing I didn’t find any mention of in the manual is if you connect the splitter to something with no load it blinks on/off (with the output doing the same) – as soon as you put load on it seems happy.
Very simple to use and with four port POE, I can connect VoIP phone and ip cameras.
I added another unit to expand other devices on using POE. Works great.
An excellent little PoE switch – I honestly can’t fault it!
For the price I paid, I was expecting a flimsy plastic thing to arrive, but was delighted to receive a solidly-built, metal unit. It feels very well-made.
I’m using it in conjunction with a TP-Link PoE Splitter unit to power a wireless router, and it seems to have no trouble powering this device. However, the manual does recommend that PoE devices should be rated at 10W or less, which may explain why it is unable to power some network video cameras.
One very nice feature of this unit is that all the connectors are at the back, but all the indicator lights are on the front. This means it’s possible to keep all the messy wiring hidden around the back, but still be able to view the indicator lights to see what’s going on from the front.
If I was forced to make a criticism, it would be that the actual indicator LEDs are mounted some distance behind the front panel. If you look at the unit off-centre, it’s not always clear which lights are actually illuminated because they shine through the wrong holes in the front panel. You have to look directly at the front of the unit to see the lights clearly. But that is being very picky indeed!
I also really like the shape of this unit. I prefer oblong boxes to the bizarrely-shaped things that seem to be fashionable at the moment. This looks like a serious bit of network equipment – not a kid’s toy.
In summary, this is a very good value, well-built, attractively-styled unit. Why spend any more?
Bought this to power an IP camera, and gradually added others, and it has worked perfectly so far. Literally – plug one LAN cable from this unit to your router, and another cable (from one of the 4 POE ports) to your camera, switch it on, and that’s it. It starts working immediately with no setup required, and for me at least, has never dropped a connection.
I am hoping that it will happily power more cameras should I get any more. Recommended.
UPDATE 5th November 2013
Has been on virtually continuously since purchase and still no issues. Have not connected multiple cameras to it yet, but has powered a different camera happily. Never drops connection.
UPDATE 26th October 2019
Has now been switched on continuously for over 6 years with no issues whatsoever.
UPDATE 26th February 2020
Has now been on for 7 years, and has powered up to three cameras for me at times. Still never dropped a connection.
Highly recommended!
I bought this switch so I could run a new PoE CCTV IP camera on my existing network setup which didn’t support PoE.
The unit has 8 ports, 4 of which are PoE compliant/enabled and plugs into the mains via a DC adapter.
The housing is made of aluminum and doesn’t feel cheap when held.
It does what it says on the box really, doesn’t run hot and has loads of flashing lights on the front to let you know it’s doing its’ job. 😉
A good PoE Switch, at a unbeatable price!
UPDATED – Title fixed and now states “TP-LINK TL-SF1008P 8-Port 10/100M Desktop Switch Including 4-port PoE ” – well done!
EARLIER I wrote:
Despite the title stating otherwise, the manufacturer’s description is correct when it states that only “4 of the 8 Auto-Negotiation RJ45 ports (port-1 to port-4) of the switch supports the PoE function”. Do not be misled.
I am using one of these to power 3 WiFi Access points ( DrayTek Vigor AP-800 Wireless Access Point ) and generally the unit behaves. I tried a fourth but there was not enough power. Consider your total power requirement when selecting this product.
It gets 4 stars because it does what I wanted at a keen price.
