New things are generally better than old things you replace, but this is a HUGE leap forward over my old one. I waited too long to replace my old one I think.
When I first got this little beast I thought it was a tad heavy but its performance outdone anything weight wise. Cracking suction and is a wee life saver in the kitchen.
The only other thing is it seems to loose its charge quickly but then again it charges up fairly quick so I would suppose that evens it out. It’s a very robust wee hoover and I really like it.Thank you.
This works quite well and is useful for car interiors and hard to get to places. Obviously, being a small vacuum it hasn’t got a great deal of suction, but is generally OK for most things.
Good versatile piece of cleaning equipment. Light and easy to use. Good brand and very good value. Good back up to main hoover for small quick jobs around the house/car.
After researching hand-held vacuum cleaners I found it to be a very difficult decision. I wanted one that wasn’t expensive, but was strong and actually sucked up dirt, especially when reviews of various products said ‘does not suck up’.
I chose this hand-held in the end. I am more than happy. It’s strong, sucks up dirt well, the auction time is around 15-20mins, which I expected as it’s not a full size vacuum and I don’t expect it to do the whole house. It’s not that noisy, I’d rather have a slight bit of noise and it work, than be quiet and useless.
Easy to charge. Easy to empty, easy to clean the filter. Reasonable price. What more could you want. I’d definitely recommend and buy again.
I had an old orange one of these years ago, but someone left it outside, so it died. But I was quite happy to go for another one, even after reading lots of reviews on the alternatives. I like the little pull out crevice tool, which is an additional feature compared to my old one. All in all, I’m content.
I noticed in other reviews that there was no charging lead, and also Amazon recommended one at checkout. So I bought one. There IS a charger included in the box! I shall probably lose it at some point, so I have a spare…if I can remember where I put it!
It exceeded expectations. So much so, I bought another one immediately after trying for a couple of days. Weeks later, still as happy. Great suction, holds charge well and not too heavy and very compact. Only slight minus might be the filter is too big, so have to use hands to empty completely and full charge takes rather a long time. Still, I’d recommend to anyone.
Very good price for a well made cleaner! Couldn’t fault it as vax ! Good for small quick cleaning as it’s handy and already used it ! Filter also good n traps dust like fluff n other stuff! Overall great little cleaner!
I bought this after reading the Which? review recommendation as being value for money.
We don’t have any pets, so sucking pet hair is not a pre-requisite. It is great for sucking up dust & spilt granules of sugar, salt, coffee etc from a tiled floor. The extendable nozzle feature is very useful, but it retracts easily if pushed too hard on the floor.
I recommend it for the above & for stair carpets, but for more robust cleaning & pet hair gathering it may be slightly underpowered.
It does recharge easily & holds its charge well.
Good product for the price.
Good little hand vac. Got today and just used it to hoover under the cushions on my furniture as I have 2 cats. Was okay did the job. Suction could be better but that could me getting used to using it. Would recommend
Very impressed with the item. Very good suction and lightweight.
It is not wall mountable which is a shame, only other negative is short 15min battery life, but these are just niggles. I would still recommend this to anyone
The vaccum is great for its size, the nozzle that pulls out is a nice addition, while I don’t have the experience of using many handheld vaccums, I can say this does the job, my only issue is that it dies before I get to the bottom of the stairs, if the charge held longer I would definitely give a 5.
Adore this thing for my uni room, works really well for crumbs on the bed and cat litter on the floor, needs charging about once a week for me but that depends on how much you use i
I live in a very limited space, so it’s ideal to have a small yet very reliable excellent quality hand held vacuum cleaner. It picks dirt up well and relatively easy to empty.
I bought it mostly to help with animal hair on soft furnishings .
Mostly it’s ok but it struggles on the chenille curtains because the hair is almost sticky on there .
Great for drawers/windowsills/corners and all furniture surfaces . I think I was expecting too much with the curtains .
Would recommend .
I purchased this a month ago after researching it and similar equivalents.
PLEASE REMEMBER this isn’t made to equal a full sized corded vacuum.
Now that being said, reviewing it for what it’s designed for, I’m extremely happy with it and would highly recommend it.
It’s very very well made and durable. The suction is great. My daughter dropped and broke a glass and this pulled all the glass fragments (small and large) out of the pile of the carpet. Battery life is also great for small ‘clean ups’ I put it on charge after use and its ready for next time. So all in all I’d highly recommend it and I think it’s superb value for money
Easy to use and empty. This is just as well. As it needs emptying frequently. The filter bag gets clogged pretty quickly but is easy to remove and wash. All that said it’s good value for money and does it’s job well.
I reviewed my first Vax Gator five years ago. But the best recommendation I can give it, is the old one is now showing it’s age and I have bought the exact same model again. The only things you need to know about the Vax Gator is that it is brilliant. It is powerful, is easy to empty and easy to clean. The built-in crevice tool is no gimmick, it is genuinely useful around the kitchen, as it allows you to direct the suction a little further under the microwave and toaster etc, than you would be able to without the tool. Because I am replacing an old Gator, I can tell you that if you keep them on charge permanently, the batteries will last for four years with full performance, then start to deteriorate quite quickly after that. Mine is now five years old and after starting at full power, the suction drops off within about 20 seconds and the vacuum then runs at a noticeably slower speed for about 10 minutes before it begins to slow to a stop. The suction is still useable, but nowhere near its brand new performance. I will still use the old Gator until the poor thing finally throws in the towel. For all you fellow electronic engineers out there, I did consider replacing the battery in the old Gator, but it proved not economically viable. The power source is an integral part of the unit and consist of 9 ‘C-cell’ sized batteries, soldered in a circle around the motor. I took one look, reassembled the Gator and backed away slowly. Truth is, I honestly don’t mind paying for another new unit, as these Vax Gators are built like tanks, last a minimum of four years, are sensibly priced and work extremely well. I used to think it was a bit on the heavy side, but now that I have seen what is inside the shell, they are built extremely well. There is only one criticism I have and it is for Vax, not the Gator product, and that is why do they not make a wall bracket for the Gator? Other than that, if you are looking for a really good kitchen clean-up vacuum, the Vax Gator is absolutely brilliant.
So, I’ve had this hoover a little while now, and the initial reason for purchase was as a car hoover, as I was after one that would charge independently and not have to be plugged into the car’s cigarette lighter.
Whilst this is only recommended for indoor use, I figured a car is essentially indoors, right? So from reading the instructions, it states to initially charge the hoover for 24 hours. I was going to go ahead with this but after 6 hours the hoover light went off and the hoover was fully charged.
Once the hoover was fully charged, I thought I would give it a go. I had recently taken my dog to the vets and this created a lot of hair which was left in my car as a result, which I thought would be perfect to give the hoover a go. On hair, this hoover performs well, but not amazingly, which you cant expect from a handheld hoover thats battery powered – you cant expect it to work as well as a hoover pulled into the mains!
The hoover is really good for stones and other dirt and can hoover hair thats not ingrained into fabrics and the extendable nozzle is great for hard to reach spaces.
Overall, its a decent handheld vacuum, with good suction and good features. It’s easy to take apart to clean and the extendable nozzle creates more concentrated suction for hard to reach places. It’s a name and brand you know with VAX. It also doesn’t have ridiculous charging times like some handheld hoovers and lasts around 30 minutes
I bought the Vax Gator after seeing a selection of models reviewed on a TV show. It seemed well priced and effective compared to the others.
It has a sturdy feel. The front springs opens like a jaw to empty the dirt caddy, and the whole ‘face’ detaches to access the filter. A nozzle extends from the front for better access to corners and crevices, which is a nice feature. The suction is good enough to pick up crumbs and debris on a sofa or carpet, but it can’t compare to a full-size vacuum if the dirt is ground in.
The battery life seems good, it has been mainly used in 1-3 minute bursts around the house a couple of times each day and sometimes doesn’t get plugged in to charge, there has never been a sign that it is running out of juice. It takes a long time to charge when it is low, when you unbox the product expect to charge it for 24 hours before the first use. Other comments about battery life may be because the unit was charged only a few hours before the first use.
The capacity is small, and when it is used for dusty jobs the power can reduce a lot as the filter clogs up, but the filter is easily cleaned in a few seconds with some warm soapy water and full power is restored. The design means that dust bunnies can form and need to be emptied by hand because they cling to the filter. This is possibly the worst aspect of the vacuum, but this is also a common problem with most bagless vacuums. This wouldn’t be suitable to deep-clean a car, or to remove a lot of pet hair, or as the main vacuum except in a small tidy flat, because it would need to be emptied and cleaned too frequently.
It would be great as a maintenance vacuum for a family car, quickly going over the sofa before the in-laws arrive, or those jobs around the house where you might use a dustpan and brush. My partner loves using it on the stairs as part of the cleaning routine rather than the struggling with the heavy cylinder, and the convenience encourages a “clean-as-you-go” attitude.
