I’m not sure what ‘sheerness’ means in this case, since I believe it relates to diaphanous textiles.
Apart from squirrels, the caging also wards off larger birds, except starlings in my experience. I would advise the manufacturer to make a bigger alternative, because sparrows, robins and a variety of tits soon deplete this model. Interestingly most of these small birds also deliberately eject a nut or two, in tribute to the larger birds waiting underneath on the ground– in my case, crows, jackdaws, pigeons and ducks. There’s the occasional jay, but they tend too bashful to chance a brawl. Hedgehogs then snuffle for nut-fragments at night…as do rats, in daylight too, unless dealt with– best in daylight hours, to spare the hedgehogs.
A well made feeder that encourages the small birds to feed but can’t be defeated by the squirrels, pidgeons and Parakeets so I’m happy and so are the little birds.
We have a couple of squirrels who break all our bird feeders so brought one of these. Worth paying that bit more as it’s great quality.
Had it a few months and so far neither of them have been able to get into it.
Was a little worried that the inner container is glass but it is fine and also that small birds would have trouble feeding. It took a couple of days for them to get used to it and they are back feeding well , no problem for tits, robins and sparrows that regularly feed there. I have a small rooved platform for the bigger birds and squirrels. I have been putting food out for years without issue but last week a cheeky squirrel absolutely destroyed all my feeders. So this has been so effective and seem impregnable to squirrels so far so good.
Within a short period of hanging it, I watched a squirrel try to get to the food ( sunflower hearts and suet bites mixed) It caused no damage to the feeder gave up and hasn’t been back since. I find very little food falls to the ground, and I rather miss the larger ground feeders. Wish it had more than the two perches and feeding holes.
Once we’d got it hung from a stainless steel wire with a metal carabinier that is it has worked 100%. Small birds happy to go through the outer mesh to get to the goodies. being heavier than your average feeder it doesn’t rock so much in a wind and so doesn’t wastefully spill too much seed on the ground. Seems to be made of 100% corrosion proof materials in our coastal location. Moderately proof against seed getting wet in rain given our location.
I might , in future slightly restrict the size of the actual feeding openings to reduce spillage of seed
Would buy again for sure Can’t say fairer than that.
We have tried many ‘squirrel proof’ feeders over the years but this is the first which has worked. The squirrels have always been able to pull off the lid to ot other designs and end up inside the tube eating all the food!
IT REALLY IS SQUIRREL PROOF!
Small birds can get in and out easily without larger species getting in.
It only takes 3 fat balls, I would have preferred it to be a little larger but I just fill it more frequently.
We have had the Squirrel Buster in our garden for years and it has done a great job of keeping the squirrels out. We’ve always had the occasional parakeet visit the feeder but this spring a whole gang of them has started eating breakfast, lunch and dinner from it. They’re so noisy, scare the little birds away and are costing us a fortune in bird seed so thought I’d try this feeder instead, encouraged by a previous review which said it kept parakeets away. It had only been up a few hours when I looked out the window and saw 3 parakeets on it! They can only feed one at a time on the Buster so they seemed delighted with the new purchase. So, it’s coming down, we’ll stick to the trusty Buster and my next Amazon purchase will be a long range super soake
I purchased one of these and wondered if it would be worth the extra expense over the usual 5 or 6 pounds you pay for a so called squirrel proof feeder where the blighters lift the lid and bite the plastic tube, or push their heads through and nibble the plastic surrounding the feed holes so that all the seed tumbles out, Parakeets do the latter as well. The moment I saw this product I knew it was money well spent and immediately ordered another. Neither of these has been violated by “the enemy” in two weeks, not a mark on them. Happy LITTLE birds, happy me.
Really happy when it arrived as not many reviews to go off and I’ve not heard of this brand before.
Very easy to fill up – cage just lifts up over the feeder. I cannot see any plastic parts that the squirrels can chew!
I bought both the squirrel proof peanut and seed feeders and am very happy – so far no interference from the squirrels but the Robin is very happy with it!
This is one of the best bird feeders I’ve ever purchased. Not only is it squirrel proof, other than them hanging off it trying to get at the food (they can’t) but it is simple and easy to refill with the outer cage covering the feeder lid so the squirrels can’t lift the lid a very clever design feature. It is also a lot cheaper than similar products so good value for your money
I already had a peanut feeder in this make and that has proved to be very squirrel proof, so I purchased the 4 port seed feeder to stop the squirrels getting at the sunflower hearts. I notice that the finches have difficulty with the space within the cage, whereas the one I had before was broader (although, as I discovered, not squirrel proof), so they are usually half in and half out of the cage. We have sparrow hawks here and I would feel happier if the “larger” little birds could eat more safely. Would the manufacturer be able to produce a slightly broader squirrel proof cage? Other than that, a lovely feeder.
