I just got this and haven’t used it yet for alignment, but attached it to a couple wheels, which it does nicely. It seems well made. The hooks, or pins, which actually contact the wheel, are steel. If their lengths are different, they could tilt the device relative to the wheel, and cause error. So, I measured them in a few different ways. They’re pretty good, the largest variation was .006″ between two of the “wavy” tips, the shorter angular tips that I’m more likely to use were better. On the wheels I tried it on, the point of the tip bumps the tire before the flat shoulder contacts the wheel rim. Which is fine, but attention should be paid to the inward pressure applied while tightening the clamp, as jamming one or two of the tips into the tire would angle the device relative to the wheel. I don’t see it being a problem at all..gentle even pressure while tightening the clamp will probably work fine.
Attached to the wheel easily, can attach on the outside of the rim or inside. Should work on just about any car. A magnetic gauge attaches securely to measure caster and camber. Solidly built, should last for decades!
This is an excellent product.
i’m using them to set up a custom alignment rig. Very accurate and it does come with the additional adapter plate which can be used to mount inclinometers to measure caster.
One thing to add: If you are trying to measure caster accurately you are going to need to make sure that all 4 wheels are exactly level with each other. Or at least side to side axle wise. Otherwise the angle readings will be off.
Most folks probably will not be using these plates for measuring toe, but the small amount of variance there due to the play of the shaft means that you will really need to push the shaft all the way down prior to clamping it and make sure the projected laser dots at a distance come out the same for both clamps.
Anyways 5 stars.
If you’re looking to do your own castor camber, this is the tool. It is extremely well made and simple to use. It’s smooth operation is actually satisfying (I really like automotive tools). This company cares about their products and support them. Wait untill you see the box it comes in. You will not regret this purchase. I should have bought one a long time ago.
If you’re a diy-er and want to check and set your alignment this is a good tool. I used it with a magnet bubble alignment gauge.
This mechanism is easy to use and is well made. I wish I had found it earlier…
This item works like a charm, especially if you own antique cars. Mechanics and shops who used to work and align these cars has pretty much disappeared. So, this item will help you get the alignment you need for your car.
Also, if you have any problems with this item, please contact customer service and they will help you with it.
I bought this to do my own alignments and it’s a nice copy of the old Hunter clamp. Worked great for my billet 17″ wheels. It would be nice if it had runout adjusters on it but I made sure the feet were tight against the wheel.
This tool is just like the ones I used to use on the Hunter alignment racks. Only difference is the mounting pad. This one holds a magnetic gauge and the Hunter units held a reflective surface. This unit is a little more money but well worth it. It ease of use and its expansion from center vs. from just one end like other tools means it will not interfere with the top of the fender like so many of the other tools while doing a caster sweep.
Loving this product! I’m a mobile mechanic for chauffeured vehicles, for which this works flawlessly as advertised with a quality camber gauge. Quality product/parts/manufacturing imo. That said, my personal coupe with 19″ rims does not have the clearance to properly check the caster angle. Overall i would definitely recommend to anyone interested
Easy assembly. Cleaned casting flash or machining burrs from clamp tips first thing. Used on factory 20″ Denali wheels. I’ve needed this tool for a long time, perfect addition to my caster/camber gauge and turn plates. First use pretty much pays for itself, so long as you have the gauge already.
Works exactly as it should. From my perspective, it is dead-on accurate, provided the magnetic gauge you also need is accurate. Or i suppose my gauge is inaccurate in the way that counteracts the amount of inaccuracy in the clamp, which i find highly improbable. Very easy to install, use, and uninstall. This was by far the least expensive wheel clampI found on Amazon, and it is a great value.
It’s simpler than removing grease caps and it’s far easier to use than some of the other more expensive options you’ll find on amazon. I am extremely happy with this purchase.
When used with a camber/castor gauge, is extremely accurate. I changed the upper/lower ball joints and tie rod ends in my 2012 Ford Fusion. I was able to adjust all the settings and when I brought it to my friend’s alignment shop he said no further adjustments needed to be made! 🙂 It was correctly aligned.
I was pleasantly surprised how well it was made. It served the purpose for checking camber on rear/front on a C3 corvette after changing out all the suspension components.
A good tool at a good price. Photo shows everything that came in the box. All there to make it work, but what is the thing I’ve circled in red. I’m stumped.
Has a heavy duty, robust feel to it (more so than the typical 3-point wheel adapters available for DIY users). Attaches quickly, precisely, and securely to the wheel lip. In my case they were first used on expensive custom aluminum wheels. With adjustable control arms and other suspension/steering mods I wanted to get things dialed in with the caster and camber specs I wanted. Under the circumstances, this would have been time consuming and expensive at a conventional alignment shop.
Fortunately, the unit ships with plastic caps on each of the locator pins. Each pin with cap had poked a hole through the thin Chinese cardboard box it is packaged in. Included in the box was a very short bungee cord and a small, bagged plastic knob. There is no documentation to suggest what either of these items are for.
Two tips: Check the curved tips of the locator pins for casting flash. If there, it’ll feel like a thick burr and are manufacturing or finishing flaws. Two pins had burrs with one of those worse than the other. I discovered the problem after it left marks on the lip of the wheel when it was clamped on the first time. I dressed the two offending tips with a file. There’s also a small machine screw that holds the round plate to the unit. Make sure it isn’t loose. Any play here can affect your camber readings when you attach a magnetic camber gauge to the plate.
Overall, the tool works well and I’d recommend it to others. It’ll outlast me.
Excellent item. Amazed at the ease of using and high quality. I would definitely buy again if needed and I’ll keep a watchful eye on other products that carries the brand name. It was easy to figure out how to use and I constantly get same readings when rechecking after driving the vehicle. Great product. Get it if you looking.
Easy to attach to the wheel rim and very stable during the alignment inspection.
The tool is solidly built and the backlash is very small.
Aligment inspection is easy with this tool and the value obtained by the inspection is trustworthy.
Written manual will be grateful for beginners.
Solid piece of product. I think the metal is made from 1 piece and you can feel the weight of it. I took this to my mechanic shop to show him what I got and he’s also impressed with the item as well. Good to have as part of my tool kit.
