Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDidn’t enjoy Yellowstone at all, too many unpleasant rich business types. This is great though. Cinematic, just like the old fashioned westerns and top acting with excellent characters. You don’t need to see Yellowstone to enjoy it either.

A great prequel to the Yellowstone, with the story of the duttons and others crossing the Great Plains. Didn’t know if it would be my cup of tea as I have no interest in westerns whatsoever, but was really pleased. Great cast and great story

1883 is outstanding, if you haven’t watched it yet please watch it. the follow on 1923 and yellow stone are well worth watching as well, 1883 though is brutal and the story telling is fantastic

I have not watched Yellowstone yet but bought this DVD and have started watching in that order and plan to watch 1923 next when that becomes available on DVD and will then watch Yellowstone.
1883 is a gripping watch and well produced, I won’t provide any spoilers but would highly recommend. Can’t wait to see 1923.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA grim story of the ‘pioneer spirit’ and wonderfully well told.

I have a couple of purely technical notes.

    1) Subtitles
Being a bit hard of hearing, subtitles are an absolute must for me. However, every time I clicked on subtitles in the set up menu it seemed to have no effect at all when playing an episode. But fear not! On my dvd player remote control there is a button for subtitles …. a couple of clicks and the subtitles played.

    2) Lengthy blacked out screens.
Presumably there wasn’t much re-editing of advert breaks so the screen suddenly blacks out ….. the first couple of times I thought the dvd may been dud. But the action came back properly.

Both the subtitles and black outs are minor irritants but you quickly get used to both. That aside, this is a beautifully written and well acted story of what life on the ‘wagon trail’ could be like.
