I was pleasantly surprised at how much seed was in that bag. I have spread it in my entire garden three times over in the last few weeks and still have plenty left. They are germinating well despite that there hasn’t been much rain and I don’t water the garden either. The two photos show before and after results with a few weeks in between. Worth i
I forgot to take photos of the before, but it germinated well and had thick grass within a fortnight. Helped by the warm, wet weather, but still much better than others I’ve tried.
Although we had ideal conditions in the spring germination took 3 to 4 weeks, some areas also remained bare (maybe the birds got to the seed) We are going to reseed again in the autumn to see if we get better results
Used it to fill some patches where the dog bounds up and down the garden. Had to keep her off it while the seeds took root but lawn looking a lot better now.
We planted the seed mid April and by mid May we have great coverage, I think the rain and warm weather created great contains which will have clearly helped. Photo is after 5 weeks.
Good Seed to oversees your lawn and get rid of your bald patches.
Mine has taken roughly 3 weeks to come through. But it’s now getting thicker each day
Definitely recommend
I’m back again for a second sack. We have a female German Shepherd who, with the best will in the world, destroys lawns. So we need to frequently refresh our lawns otherwise it would look like a war zone. This seed is so easy to use, and provides grass that is nice to look at, not that thick bladed horrible tufty grass you can get.
If my photo has uploaded, you’ll see the results in a really hard to grow area under a 3m tall raspberry bush. This grass seed will grow anywhere you put it.
I seeded the lawn in February before we started letting the dog out this year. It was too cold to grow when I did it and I thought I had foolishly wasted a load, but about 8 weeks later the weather warmed up and all of a sudden the seed just started sprouting everywhere.
I really thought I was a terrible gardener, and it turns out I *am* a terrible gardener, but with this stuff in my back pocket you wouldn’t know!
As long as your soil isn’t too compacted, you’ll get good results, and it’s so easy to use. Since you’ve got a whole sack full you won’t be too stingy with it either, which really seems to help matters. We get a lot of birds in our garden so I put down 3x the amount I think I need. It sprouts before they’ve finished eating it all, so you get something for your effort 🙂
The other photo shows the new growth we’ve had under the Acer, under the wall/fence. Nothing we’ve planted here before has grown, even the super expensive blue coated seed or the Miracle Grow coir seed. Now it’s shooting up here despite the shade and the dog.
Still thinking about it? Don’t think any more, just buy it!
I like the service provided by DPD who dealt with my queries with efficiency and professionally.
Excellent product and meet my requirements I will not hesitate to purchase same product from Amazon in the future.
Thank you.
We bought our new home without grass (due to purchasing it in the winter). We bought these seeds and planted them early May 2022, they grew and within 8 weeks we had a lawn. I’ve added progress photos to show our progress last year. It’s just had its first winter and still looks good. We have bought another bag to now bulk / thicken the grass up a bit more, which we’ll be seeding these coming weeks.
For the price, I’d certainly recommend these grass seeds, hard wearing and robust. If you have time and want to save money, this is certainly the way to grass your garden instead of paying hundreds buying rolls of grass.
Changed my review from 1 star to 4
Well 6 weeks after delivery and planting the grass has started to sprout
My original review was at 3 weeks like the advert suggested
Patience is a virtue
Original review
I am absolutely shocked
I read the reviews on the page saying great stuff. well it was a complete waste of money! Not 1 sprout of grass, ive still got a giant patch of mud!
Followed all the instructions.
Money down the drai
I ordered for my husband to cover a bank that had been created when erecting kennels, so this review is what he said about this seed. “Easy to spread, plenty of good coverage, grew much faster than anticipated, very impressed.”
Looking at some reviews who said it didn’t grow, you have to water religiously even when you have had rain. It is a lovely lawn when it has grown, so well worth the effort (not mine ). He is that impressed, he has built a fence to prevent the dogs running straight onto the grass each time they are let out.
Good product, not bulked out with compost like other products, this is purely just the grass seed. I have a tiny lawn but my puppy has destroyed it, so I had to start again.
I saw results in under 7 days with shoots starting to break through. the grass has thin blades but nice looking. I will say I bought a big bag for a small area as I knew I would have to over-seed to get a nice deep coverage.
If I could do it again I would mix the seed into the top soil before putting it down as I just placed on top of the soil and some didn’t take.
The result is good but will be leaving it for at least 60 days before mowing to avoid pulling up the young seed roots as it is still pretty fragile. Now I just need an electric fence to keep the dog off now! Good product overall.
First time I have ever tried growing a lawn from scratch and the results are excellent. The pictures show the growth over a 3.5 week period sowed in July and watered a couple of times a day with a sprinkler which had full garden coverage. I spent time rotivating prior to seeding and put down some chicken manure and grow more 3 days before seeding. I have just given it it’s first cut and are really pleased. It will require some over seeding but this is more down to my distribution being a bit inconsistent in places rather than the seed quality. Will be buying more when the time comes.
Very impressed with this grass seed. My plan was to seed a brand new area for lawn (right hand side), as well as overseeding the existing lawn. Note: the patch of fresh grass on the left was seeded back in August using Asda own multi-purpose seed.
Typical preparation before sowing took place. Soil temperature at least 8C, no frost due, scarify, cut the lawn as short as possible, rake out and remove any debris. The new soil area was simply raked
The seed arrived and was sown on the 22nd September and I used the whole bag to cover the area shown in the shots, followed by deep watering. The second shot was taken on the 6th October after the weekend where it rained non-stop. The final two shots taken today (16th October).
It really is an impressive seed and has grown very well in a reasonably short period of time. I found the new area of lawn (right side), took better than the area that was overseeded but overall, very impressed. Will be buying again in the Spring for another overseed.
My lawn is in a difficult area with shade from trees and a hedge. It gets very dry in the summer due to tree roots and wet in the winter. Despite re-turfing twice in the last 5 years the holy grail of a thick hard wearing back lawn had eluded me until now.
I cut the lawn very low in April, scarified to remove moss and aerated with a hollow time fork. I then applied the seed with top dressing and Scotts lawn feed. I watered with a sprinkler every day for 2 weeks and the seed germinated in around 8 to 10 days. Within around 6 weeks I had a lush, full lawn growing strongly.
I kept on top of it during the lock-down – watering and feeding when necessary to keep the grass growing strongly. I also reseeded after every cut to repair damage from squirrels, magpies and overhanging plants, again using top dressing where larger thin patches developed. I’m delighted with the results. As other reviewers have said, this seed is great and grows quickly if you make that sure its covered in soil and kept wet when germinating.
After removing the top layer of wild grass and tilling the earth 3 times, i seeded the 100m area with the entire bag (claims to cover a larger area), unfortunately after around 4~ weeks the grass was still very patchy.
Birds ate a fair amount of seed but id say that only around 60% germinated.
I then had to buy a second bag to fill in the gaps, as you can see from my images, it did the trick.
Either way it was cheaper than turf and i got a huge amount of satisfaction from the whole process.
This grass is amazing, my garden was a complete mess, I don’t know what grass the previous owner had put down but it was almost like weeds rather than grass and there were huge bare patches all over the place. I’ve never tried to lay grass seed before and I am the worst gardener in the world but I thought I would give this a try. I dug up all the bald patches ( which there were loads ) scattered the grass seed down and then pushed the old soil back over the top and watered every couple of days. I’m so amazed with the results after 3 weeks, its completely changed my garden and I often sit and just admire my handy work, which is crazy because I have no interest in gardening at all, but it just looks so nice and it’s so soft to walk on. This product has given me a garden I can be proud of.
After suffering the effects of chafer bugs in my lawn it was a choice of either turfing or reseeding turning can be expensive and sometimes the quality of turf is not up to standard. After reading some very good reviews for this lawn seed I decided to purchase some and give it a go and I am not disappointed as can be seen in the attached pictures the seed is growing well what you can see is only 13 days worth of growth so its looking good at the moment, In hindsight i wish i had done the whole lawn. The seed is very easy to use, make sure the surface is clear of stone and rocks and using a rake just loosen about 2 to 3 inches of the soil, I used a seed dispenser but you can do it by hand and spread your seed as per instruction, gently rake the seed in to get good contact with the soil then I used top soil to cover the seeds to a thickness of about an inch and finally I used a heavy duty roller to flatten the top soil and compact the seeds even when the grass is growing it’s still worthwhile giving it a roll. I have been fortunate with the weather conditions so far a good mixture of sunshine and rain. Buy this seed you will not be disappointed
You don’t realize quite how expensive a good grade grass seed is until you go to your local store to buy some. Thank God for Amazon and its ability to bring retailers at wholesalers prices right to your door.
A1Lawn were super fast on delivery and the seed perfectly packaged in double lined sacking. A must for longevity of seed and it goes a long way in giving the customer faith. The seed has yet to take, but I am not going to beat up A1 Lawn for that. I blame the great British weather for that one.
I made the mistake of not getting the dispenser that’s offered and would strongly urge all customers to do so to get a more even feed. Vital for an even growth. I’ve got to spend hours patching out my seed because of my tardiness, serve my right. There is no doubt the seed is going to take, It’s a hobby of mine, so I’m not worried on that score, more-so the condition the seed arrived that tells its own story. A great company that I’m likely to be using time and again.
