This game is not for everyone. As a fan of the series from ps1 I am impressed with all aspects of AC6. Its been years I felt this excitement for a game. I personally think that it’s difficulty is reasonable comparing it to the rest of the series. I can understand though that it might be too much for some people. For me, it’s worth it. One of my top games ever. And I loved the poster and other gifts in the pack. Amazing.
Some of the best Mecha action from a game in the last 5 years!
Story is superb, multiple endings, multiple playthroughs!
Notoriously difficult bosses, like all FROMSOFT games, but sense of achievement when you best them is unbeatable.
Armored Core 6 refines mech gameplay, offering satisfying combat puzzles, intense boss fights, and a diverse range of customizable options. However, lackluster storytelling hampers its intriguing premise. Still, a nostalgic and enjoyable comeback to the mecha series.
While the game’s premise is intriguing, the storytelling falls short, relying on uninspiring mission briefings and radio chatter. Despite this drawback, Armored Core 6 remains a highly anticipated return of a classic mecha series, delivering a polished and captivating experience that will be warmly welcomed by fans.
Almost gave up after dying to the first boss 20 times, until realising you have to use the sword on your left arm which the tutorial doesn’t tell you about. So glad I stuck with it, as this turned out to be one of the most fun games I’ve ever played, couldn’t get enough and went straight through to the end of new game ++.
So satisfying customising your own mech and taking it out on missions. Do not expect to one shot all the missions, especially the bosses. You will have to experiment with different builds and tactics, but its all the more rewarding for it. Persevere and you wont regret it!
Not for the faint-hearted; missions are fairly linear, 30 minutes in the menu for 10 minutes of gameplay, but thoroughly enjoyable.
Can’t just throw together random bits and hope it works, thought and planning are necessary.
Along with Sekiro, it’s the only FromSoft that I’ve finished (not for lack of trying, I just grow tired of the others).
Fully recommened.
I want more Armored Core and Armored Core-like Mecha games that actually feel weighty and tactical in their customization. My only problem is that the previous Armored Core games aren’t readily available on any modern platforms or even PC (barring emulation, that doesn’t support the devs in any meaningful way). If FromSoft came out with port collections of each of the generations (in the vain of Castlevania, Mega Man and Metal Gear) or a full series port collection (like the Master Chief Collection), I would buy that in a heartbeat. Of course, if it’s not for you then you’ll know when you play it but if it is for you, you’ll only know if you try it yourself.
I’ll see any Ravens who survive this Gauntlet on Rubicon. I look forward to playing with or against any of you on PS5.
The game does pose a challenge for new comers to the series as it is made by FromSoftware, but the difficulty isn’t Dark Souls hard, but still provides plenty of challenge for those looking for it.
The story was amazing and even after completing the game I want to see more of it and the world FromSoftware built up. Many have already become fan favourites in the series.
The mecha customisation as always is spot on, it takes some time to learn, but it is by far the best part nothing beats building your own mecha and seeing them in action. The decal system allows greater fixability for adding that extra flare and personal touch to the game. Being able to share ACs and decal with the community is amazing and have seen so many great designs from other players and used loads as well.
I highly recommend this game to any mecha fans you will absolute love it.
I have played and completed many From Software games but never an Armored Core game. This game demonstrates the talent of the studio by offering a great game outside of the Soulsborne genre.
The game has 3 main components, the campaign (story), arena’s (PvE, 1v1 AC battles) and PvP.
First the campaign and its story, From Software have never been known for their story or cutscenes being the biggest part of the experience, in fact many play their games with no idea of the main story. Armored Core 6 has more of a story than many previous games, mostly through radio messages and briefings between missions. The story is fine but most certainly not the greatest strength of this game.
As always the greatest strength is gameplay, with the wide range of Mech customisation, you can adjust your play style each mission or even mid mission in some cases. There is no downside to changing your build unlike a Soulsborne title which could be punishing if you change build type or play style after selection. In fact the games bosses are designed to encourage experimenting to find the best build for that enemy. Once again the boss encounters are excellent in their design and you will have a wonderful sense of achievement when you beat them. This varied approached from the Soulsborne template is commendable.
The performance and fidelity are excellent, load times are nice and short and I experienced no crashes or noticable drops in frame rate, this appears to be have been well optimsed prior to release with no bugs.
The game has mulitple endings and diverging narrative paths to encourage replayability, all unlocks continue into new game plus. The first playthrough of the campaign, training and areans take about 20 hours.
A final note on difficulty, From Software games have no difficulty settings and are known for being more challenging games. Unfortunately unlike many previous titles, the very first mission starts with a challenging encounter at the end which forces players to learn fast or die over and over again. This could be a barrier to some players progression but for all those that persist, you will enjoy a really well made and enjoyable game, with some amazing battles, wonderful customisation and a value for money title.
Never played an AC game before but as it’s big Mechs and From Software I thought I’d give it a go….no regrets. It’s a great game but not a classic. The mech feel and the control interface is superb. You can feel the heft and weight of the mech and it’s movement; an impressive feat. The mech is intuitive to control and satisfyingly and enjoyingly complicated in loadouts. Easy to operate and skilful to master. On terms of difficulty, only one boss is a nightmare: Balteus end of Chapter 1. It’s hell. You will beat it with perseverance, luck and the right loadout (several will do it and you’ll have to find the one you think will work for you – for me it was caterpillar tank with bubble gun and machine gun plus plasma missiles on both shoulders). The missions are great fun and plenty of them, fighting mechanics are terrific. Frame rate is sound at 60fps. Graphics are decent but don’t expect Returnal or Miles Morales, this is FromSoftware – it’s about the gameplay and challenge. The story is awful; boring and just meh – I’ve no idea what it’s even about (again, classic for FromSoftware). I’m really enjoying the gameplay, I’ve stopped playing Remnant 2 for this – a great mech game is beyond rare and this delivers. True next gen graphics and a decent plot/story would have elevated this to 5 stars. Gameplay is class, and you’ll feel so proud when you bring down Balteus….and you will.
Armoured Core VI is my first Armoured Core game – attracted to the FromSoftware label and fond memories of Zone of Enders 2 back in the PS2 games, I decided to take a punt on this – and what a ride you are in for – I think Mission 5 was when my jaw dropped – think of some of the bosses from Nier and you get the idea…
First off, this game has no bugs – no massive downloads, no season passes, DLC, storefront, microtransactions, always-online requirement, live-service bs – so automatically a big thumbs up here. In fact, the in game store-front for building your mechs is one of the most fun places to be in the game! Here you will add up to four weapons (mapped to each of the shoulder triggers), customize all the ‘limbs’ – play around with logos and colours (I can just see 343/EA/Bioware charging you $5 for the colour blue), its all tremendous fun.
Key things to consider here:
– This is a ‘mission’ based game, its not open-world. From the menu you select a mission and dive straight in thanks to the fast loading speeds. Missions can range from 1min to 10mins on average (bosses nonwithstanding), this is perfect for people who like their fun in short, sharp bursts!
– This is a hard game – note the review complaining about the first helicopter boss, boy – they are in for a surprise later if they found that tough with Balteus! Don’t pick this up if you are afraid of a challenge, you can spec your mech towards a speed build – relying on reflexes to jet around, or a power build – maybe even with tank treads or even four massive legs! Nothing wrong with a middle ground either. The first boss is a tough one (as you use a set build), dodge like mad using the square button, pummel with rockets before hitting with a melee when they ‘stagger’ – you can do it!
– Checkpoints can be few and far between, but levels are typically so short this is rarely a major set-back.
– Combat feels so good! So fast, like a ballet almost as you waltz from enemy to enemy, pulverising everything before you. Its a real power fantasy (until you hit a boss!). All builds are viable, be it ranged explosions, melee close quarters or duel SMG’s backed up by massive artillery guns – have fun, mess around with the builds!
+ Story its fine. I mean, I’m not sure how much I am following buts its kinda interesting. More importantly, it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
+ Lock-on is an issue – with the fast paced nature of combat the lock-on feature is essential, but it’s only a soft lock so enemies that dart behind you automatically get ‘unlocked’ – can be very irritating.
Pro Tip – If in doubt, dual shotguns or dual laser rifles will almost always settle the matter.
Great game, but before you jump in you need to understand this is a challenging game. Don’t come expecting to press x, x, x and do an insane combo and finish splitting the enemy in half. This is not God of War (great game by the way).
You need to learn how to play, make the most of the controls and your abilities. This is a game where you need to learn how to master positioning, movement, dodges and when to counter or you will be stuck in the first mission just like half of the people complaining on Twitter.
Again, God of War is a great game but I’m using it here as a comparison on what to expect. There is no easy mode.
If you’re not willing to learn and master a complex control scheme then do not buy this game. It is not insanely difficult. It is challenging and demands that you learn how to play it properly.
From Software has established itself as the best gaming company in my eyes.
They not only have given birth to a whole new genre of games, they have also shown the diversity they can bring in other domains.
The value for money here is unmatched. While most companies would put core mechanics behind a paywall, from software gives you the full game for a fixed price. Meaning no in-game store menus or random cash grabs popping up on the screen taking you out of the experience. This is how it should be no exceptions, no excuses. When I pay for a game full price i expect to get a full experience with no interventions. In game stores are a massive distraction from the full game and we shouldn’t have to deal with a freaking paywall after paying full price.
While the graphics aren’t anything to drool over, the art direction, combat, customisation and core gameplay mechanics along thrilling boss battles are what sells from software games every single time, and they have absolutely delivered in every front.
The overall missions are pretty short but there are quite a few exceptions where they can drag for a lot longer, especially if you get to some of the harder bosses it could even take hours to beat some of them.
No unskippable cutscenes either or unbearable dialogue throughout the whole playthrough. Once you are in game, the action has started. You don’t have to wait for hours to get to finally play the game. Afterall, we’ve paid for a game not an interactive movie.
Overall i couldn’t be happier with how the game turned out, i hope from software will continue taking this path and not become corrupt like activision blizzard has.
All there is left now is to wait for Elden Ring DLC.
