I was very pleased with this tent – it was water tight through considerable rain, was easily put up (videos available on YouTube, etc) – was roomy enough for 1 or 2 in my opinion, with your inner room and small porch. I am really pleased with this Coleman Tent.
When I purchased, Amazon sold this tent with a stated 169.99 RRP, at a cost of 185.99 to me. A week later during Prime Deals, it was displayed with another RRP cost and sold 40.00 cheaper! At the time of this review, the RRP is 185.00 and selling for 172.87. Apart from the trading legalities of the pricing and being Prime Customer, the Amazon customer service was unsatisfactory sadly – and I encourage all Buyers to take no notice of the RRP and ‘sale/discount offers’. Amazon aside, Coleman have provided a brilliant tent, in my opinion, that packs away well and is a strong, safe home for our little adventures!
I needed to get a larger tent as my child is now the size of an adult! We tested it this weekend and there was plenty of room for three – normally when you buy a tent, if it says three man , its really only suitable for two and so on. BUT this tent is actually big enough for three. I am experienced camper so I found this easy to put up on my own, but if you have not camped before an extra pair of hands would be good (the instructions are in the bag and you can watch a tutorial on you tube). I did not rain but the tent has a hydrostatic head of 3000mm which gives me confidence (my old tent had this rating and got me through some pretty awful weather). When I put it back in the bag, i left the bedroom and ground sheet attached and it all went back in the bag easily (if you are not experienced camper there are videos on you tube about how to pack away a tent – this might sound silly but worth watching).
The porch area has a ground sheet – this is great for storing gear. If it rained it would not be too bad hunkering down in there as a group of three. The porch has three doors so you not be clambering over each other to dash to the loo.
Overall this is an excellent tent at a good price that will see you through many camping trips in the glorious brittish weathe
I’ve never had a Coleman tent before. This is the exact shape and size I wanted. The porch area is large enough for me to sit in and cook in. It has 3 doors for ventilation. I can’t stand up in it, but I didn’t want that – I have a big tent already.
Having read the other reviews, I had already seen that some people have had problems with the eyelets. I had exactly the same with one of mine. They haven’t all been cut accurately and the pole wouldn’t go through. I used a knife to cut away the piece of metal that was in the way, and the eyelet broke. Very disappointing as I really like the tent. I was going to send it back, but then found out that a friend has a repair kit for eyelets. It is now fixed, and I’m hoping the rest of the eyelets survive my next camping trips.
I camped for 4 nights, and through persistent rain. There was some water on the inside of the tent, but it wasn’t dripping. I also cooked in the porch so it may actually have been condensation. With the amount of rain we had, I was very happy with how waterproof it appeared to be. I didn’t use the removable groundsheet in the porch area so I can’t comment on that. There was some wind. There aren’t as many pegging-out points as some more expensive tents so there was a bit of flapping material, but nothing that bothered me. I don’t know how it would fare in strong winds but there are a reasonable number of guy ropes.
Overall, despite the cheap eyelets, I’m happy I’ve got it fixed and that I’ll be able to continue using this tent.
Bought for a festival after a one man last year really didn’t do the job at all.
This basically did everything I needed it to. Fit in a double air bed in the main sleeping area + a fair bit of extra room. Rather simple to transport, not too heavy, and plenty of area. I will say it came inside out and I, very stupidly set it up inside out initially and then had to restart but it did the trick once I fixed that!
The tent was somewhat easy to assemble though the picture instructions were slightly confusing at first. I am sure I can use a little more practice with assembly and then it should come easily because it was still achievable as my first time assembling a tent. The only problem is that the tent poles are apparently supposed to fit into the grommets at some of the grounding points for the tent and two of the six grommets didn’t have a hole wide enough for the end of the pole to fit so they cannot be secured properly like the rest. I am not sure if this will be a big issue in the future but I will update once I properly use the tent. Otherwise so far I am very happy with the tent overall!
This isn’t a full review, as I haven’t yet camped in the tent. I erected it in the garden to see that all components were correct, and to see if I could erect it on my own. I’m an active retiree, in mid 60s, who’s going to need a tent next year, for a long trip.
I had watched the video beforehand, which greatly helped. It took me a full hour to pitch the tent, but this was obviously the first time, and trying to work out the picture instructions – they weren’t particularly helpful. I’m sure that the next time of trying will be quicker. I did manage it alone, but weather conditions were near perfect, with no wind or rain. I’m not sure how I’ll manage in windy conditions.
I’ll write a full review when I’ve properly used it. I do like the space(a 3man tent for just me and my kit, is ample), the height(I don’t want to crawl into tents anymore!) and the ‘bucket’ groundsheet.
I also like the colour-coded poles.
I’m pleased with it….so far.
I’m nearly 62 and not camped for more than 40years. This tent took me about an hour to put up ( I’m sure this will get less with practice) and 20 mins to take down. Envisage it might be more difficult in windy weather. I bought heavier duty pegs to be sure if windy tent was more secure. No way could I get tent to go back in bag !! . Luckily I had a old double duvet storage bag which was perfect. Its classed as a 3 man tent but think that would be a tight squeeze. The sleeping compartment was just right for me, my dog and belongings. There’s a loop to hang a light ( not one in living area-would be useful).Would prefer a blacked out sleeping area but slept well as site I was on had no outdoor lighting. The living section is smaller than I anticipated but with good organisation was ok as can see by picture. Might be a bit claustrophobic if weather horrendous and had to stay zipped up..Being able to lift front canopy is useful. The ground sheet could be better designed eg additional clips to fasten to sides or even better built in. Water does get in and had to mop up a couple of times but not completely wet.I used a doormat at entrance which stopped alot of the tread. Inside Tent didn’t leak but rain not extra heavy/persistent. The door zips did get caught a couple of times. Big downside is that you can’t stand upright at all inside the tent and I’m only 5ft 2. Did have a bit of backache as a result. Overall – happy with it.
As a total novice, I managed to put this up single-handedly in about an hour…I don’t know if that’s good but I was very pleased. Stayed up, kept me dry and my only qualm was that the groundsheet for the porch area wasn’t better connected to the tent, there were gaps which in poor weather could get wet and muddy. I had it to myself though and the bedroom was very cosy. All in all happy with my purchase.
I needed a tent I could put up by myself, that would fit myself and two children. It is perfect. It was so easy and quick to put up (I’m only 5’5″ tall). It held up against gale force winds during Storm Ellen, while other tents collapsed, broke, or blew away. We were cosy, warm, and dry. I love the fact that the front section has two side doors that I can open both together to let the air through, or either one at a time for privacy. The light green colour was great for not attracting insects and the sleep pod didn’t let a single insect in. Our first camping trip with this tent had ‘adventurous’ weather, but we sat safely and cosily inside playing board games and drinking hot chocolate. It was also easy to take down and store, especially as the front ground sheet (which got a little muddy) is detachable. I would definitely recommend this tent.
I had specific requirements for a tent that my son and I could take camping trips with. This tent definitely meets those requirements.
It has a good sized porch/kitchen/sitting area which provides somewhere sheltered to sit, and at 6’2″ I can sit in it on a camping chair quite comfortably, there is enough room, and some to spare, for both my son and I to sit in it. I can also access the tent by simply stooping rather than having to crawl in on my hands and knees.
The bedroom is a separate ‘pod’ which fits into the main layer of the tent, which I find much more practical for erecting and taking the tent down. It also keeps the bugs out of the sleeping area.
The removable groundsheet in the porch are is handy and I like the fact that it has sides rather than just being a flat sheet. The number of ‘doors’ on the porch means that you can open it right up and get plenty of air into the tent, the way the front of the tent opens and creates a kind of awning is a very nice feature.
All in all a really nice tent, we’re very happy with it.
Space-wise, it is really a two person tent with a bit of space for gear – not “3+” as they optimistically describe it. Only used for a few nights so far, but it rained quite hard and the tent didn’t leak. But the design of the door is such that you get quite a lot of drips coming inside if you open it wet. The fabric is quite lightweight and needs to be handled with some care, but this helps keep the bulk & weight down. The groundsheet for the living space is separate and not sealed to the flysheet, so there is a gap where insects can get in. Also, the flysheet could do with overlapping the groundsheet more to be sure of keeping windblown rain out. Another minor flaw is that the windows have no curtain or cover, so lacks a bit of privacy. The windows are small, anyway, and I wonder why they bothered with them really. If you were going to carry this tent on a hike you could reasonably split it so that one person carries the poles and inner, and the other person carries the flysheet and pegs. (And probably leave the separate living area groundsheet at home).
I bought this to replace a 2-man tent, which proved to be too small heightwise for me. This one was high enough for me to stay on my feet albeit bent at the waist, but better than having to crawl around on all fours like I did with the 2-man. It was easy to erect and I could have had it fully assembled quicker if hadn’t been for the midday heat. I was camping alone so I had lots of room to store all my gear in the sleeping compartment and fit my inflatable mattress in. In the ‘living’ area I was able to put up a camp chair and sit in comfort. The other thing I was pleased with was the three openings, the slanted one doubling as a kind of verandah roof. Thus I was able to get plenty of shade and air circulation to enjoy the sunshine and 30 degree heat without getting burned.
I agree with another reviewer that repacking it leaves no room in the bag for the tent poles, but the separate bag for the poles meant I could easily tether that bag to the tent bag.
I would recommend this tent to motorcyclists as I was able to secure it on top of my panniers and it didn’t stick out at all either side.
What I don’t know is how waterproof it is because the weekend I used it was in the middle of a heatwave… in England!!
Perfect size, good quality tent. I’ve only used it once so far but have another two trips planned. Ideal two-man tent (it was just me and the dog this time) and seems to be waterproof. I sprayed some fabsil along the seams anyway. Having three doors at the front is useful but it would have been better if the windows could be covered up. It was fairly quick to pitch and I was careful with the poles as some reviewers’ broke. Plenty of guy lines, I swapped the pegs for Blue Diamond Power Pegs as I’m a klutz and always seem to bend the regular shaped ones. I bought this when it was on sale and it was a bargain. Full price there are Outwell tents that cost around the same so perhaps consider them too as they have a good reputation. If you buy this one, I doubt you’ll be disappointed unless you are used to the very best. Personally my last tent was a Chinese special from a well known auction site (and it wasn’t bad!) so your mileage may vary.
In short, it went up quick, stayed put, stayed dry, there’s enough space, and it packs away quickly (but won’t fit back in the bag it came in – unless you leave it unzipped).
Paid 82.84 8/15. Used it twice now with some wind and rain on both occasions and the tent performed very well. Plenty of space and comfortable inside with well isolated bedroom with good vents – usefully large living area with good door options. Two problems which is a shame as it’s a good tent –
1) Instructions are useless and verging on non-existant which is silly as it is quite easy to put up ONCE YOU KNOW HOW. – try harder Coleman.
2) Bag is too small and tent must be shoe-horned back into it with difficulty. Obviously it is more important to tent manufacturers to quote a smaller pack-away size than it is to provide the buyer with a realistically spacious bag. PS. One of the reviews here makes the exact opposite point to this – spot the plant.
Will provide updates as time goes on ….
Promised update 14-04-17: I’ve used it about nine times now in all weathers and I still like it very much and all the pluses above still apply as does the negative of the too small bag – even after much practice it is still a mammoth effort to squeeze it back into its bag.
LOL – looks like I may be getting dislikes from people who don’t like my price reveal – tough, we’re all counting the coins so stop milking it – this is buyer power on the Web.
Early review – used once and it performed well.
Key points (3 man tent):
– its easy to set up. 3 flexible colour coded poles which you could manage on your own (don’t require super human strength to bend and locate in holes). 3 sections – outer sheet with about 10 pegging points plus guy ropes, inner sleeping sections which hooks (around 10 toggles) to inside of outer sheet and also at base with elesticated hooks and a ground sheet for the porch. No problems with any of this. Erected it comfortably in 10-15 minutes. If you were in a rush you could peg the outer, forget the guys and just insert the sleeping section in about 5-10 mins.
– as with most tent sizing deduct 1 from the stated spec and you have yourself a spacious sleeping compartment. This could comfortably fit 3 but 2 feels lik the optimum (assuming you are not backpacking – it is quite bulky and weighty at 7kilos).
– weather was good when i used it so porch functioned mainly for storage – generous. Would easily form a workable space if weather poor.
– on packing found it near impossible to get everything back into the carry bag and had to leave the groundsheet out – still a squeeze for the other components.
All in all a well priced functional tent which was very easy to set up. Will update after further use.
I purchased this tent for long weekends at Star Parties, the tent is reasonably
high quality construction and materials make it very usable.
With the tent not being to big it makes it cosy and easier to warm up inside.
For its size it is quite spacious with a sleeping compartment that has plenty
of room for two. The storage area is a reasonable size though with all your
kit stowed away in there, there is just enough room to sit.
The issues I have are as follows.. Well not issues more like annoying niggles.
it is a pig to put up by yourself and it does not like uneven ground.
I erected it on my lawn which has a slight dip to one side. Because of this
It took me just over a hour to get the tension on the guides just right to enable
me to zip up the front awning. It is advisable to use a candle to wax the zips to
assist in the closing, especially the curved sections of the side panels.
The ground sheet sides of the storage/porch area are a bit sloppy and do not quite
fit. there is also a pegging point missing on the ground sheet which doesn’t help with
the fitting. My remedy was to use Velcro
It would also have been nice if Coleman had incorporated flaps to cover the windows
to stop straying eyes.
My boyfriend and I have been using it during this summer for a several festivals arroud England and Belgium, in different types of weather. I just wanted to wait to finish using it to make a review. This tent is awesome. Even in the worse wether we stayed dry. When the weather was very hot we could open it quite a lot for ventilation or in the worse scenario, we could lay in the porch. The porch is the best invention ever because provide you privacy or dry shelter when you just want to chill at the tent.
Is supposed to be for three people, but my bf and I use it for ourselfs. It gives us plenty space to put our luggages inside where we sleep .
Is very easy to set up. We just used the instructions more or less the first time. After that one, we just do it without them. I would Highly recomend to put the floor in the porch because protect that part for the rain. We have setted up always and we never had any problem with rain with that.
Is a good tent in general and I am very happy with it 🙂
I am only 5ft tall, but my partner is 6ft 4 so I have been looking everywhere for a two man tent which is large enough for him to fit comfortably in. This 3 birth is fantastic. The inner pod is the perfect size for both of us to sleep, with room at the sides to store all of our belongings. The other main reason for buying this tent above any other, is the porch. There are very few 3 birth tents out there with this extra space. It is the perfect size for us to both sit comfortably under on chairs, for those days when the weather is not so nice! I have not yet used this tent, so can not comment on how it withstands wind or rain, but I can say that it is VERY easy to put up and it does also fit back in the bag quite easily!
