Works well when connected to a USB 3 socket on PC. Unfortunately my PC has only one socket on the base unit and it wouldn’t work connected to an external USB3 hub. I just unplugged this and it worked directly on the PC. I had hoped that the type C connection would work but this seems to be just for MAC. It is light, compact and burns a DVD so I can live with disconnecting other devices on a temporary basis.

I saw some people saw that this didn’t work after a few days so I had some reservations about buying it but I figured they could possibly have been faulty items. Anyway, I’ve been using this for just over a week now and haven’t had any issues at all. For reference, I have a newer PC that doesn’t come with a CD/DVD drive. I bought this because I had a load of classic PC games that I wanted to install and play. This reader recognised the games no issues and installed them at pretty much the same rate as I would expect from a built in disc drive. All I did was plug the usb into the reader and onto my pc and that was it working. No installation needed.

I’m loving the External CD DVD Drive that plugs in via USB. It’s been a game-changer for reading old discs and playing classic games on my new laptop. The convenience of having a portable DVD/CD ROM reader and writer is fantastic especially as most laptops don’t have a CD ROM feature anymore. The USB 3.0 speed ensures smooth operation, and the drive’s compatibility with different formats is a huge plus. It’s become an essential addition to my tech setup.

Versatile Functionality: The drive supports both CD and DVD formats, allowing me to not only read but also write and burn data to discs.

Nowadays thin, lightweight and portable laptops are more popular, but they don’t come with a CD/DVD player as it would add tickness to the laptops. This portable CD/DVD Drive is very useful as I can just connect it to my laptop and play/write/rewrite CDs and DVDs when I want, and other times it can be stored. Easy to use and I can now play old home videos on my laptop.

This drive can store large amounts of data, transmitting them at a faster rate of 5 Gbps.

The Aumdie External CD/DVD Drive is small in size and works with both Windows and Mac operating systems. Its USB 3.0 Type-C connection ensures maximum data transfer speeds and backup performance, and the unit is plug-and-play compatible, requiring no external power supply. Also, the ultra-slim design ensures a sleek appearance and portability while not taking up too much space on your table.

Furthermore, the DVD Player’s reading and writing performance is exceptional, as it reads disks at up to 8x speed and writes CDs at 24x speed. This drive has enough power to burn large amounts of storage at lightning speeds, making it ideal for creating backup discs for photos, videos, music, and other media.

Overall, this is an excellent option for anyone who requires an external optical drive for use at home or on the go.

I have a gaming laptop, which does not have an optical drive,as games these days are mainly bought and downloaded online.I still have old pc games on dvd though,so when the opportunity to get this on Amazon through Vine,I decided to snap at the chance.
I chose to test it out with an old game Planescape Torment and I am pleased to say it worked.
I connected the optical drive directly to my pc,rather than through a USB hub.It didn’t automatically install the game.I had to find the install program through the control panel and then it installed.Game worked well without any issues from a brief test play.
This drive is currently selling for just below 20 on Amazon.I am happy with the product. My rating is 5 Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good.

My husband often said he wanted to still be able to play his collection of old pc games but we had nothing to play them on so this is ideal for that. It’s easy to connect up and use and works well. It’s small and light so it is portable if needed to travel with.

Twenty pounds for a CD/DVD plug ‘n play bit of kit is quite impressive. Actually, they’ve been around for a few years, all with the short cable stored away underneath. This version has a replica disc pattern on the top, which I thought was a nice touch. They work best plugged into a laptop, as my wife found out. Annoyingly the actual cable isn’t long enough to be effectively used with a desktop, (or in my case an under desk top) .

She is happy with the smooth play functions, CDs, European DVDs and code-free DVDs all work. We haven’t tried the CD/DVD burner options yet but I’m assuming there will be no problems. I should say that the discs need to be carefully placed on the tray which is unsupported underneath and I think could have the potential to break.

Plug ‘n play has never been cheaper or easier.

Simple design but does the job. Like the USB-A and C combo cable that tucks away for storage and portability. Plug and play makes this a piece of cake to use. Recommended.

Powering up easily on my Microsoft Surface Pro connected only by the integral USB-C plug, this is recognised by Windows 11 in a matter of seconds. Using a free DVD player app, I can play any of my DVD collection straight away. This adds a lot to my Surface Pro by having a dedicated DVD player. Also I can load CD Rom software from it and save data to writable Cd’s.
This is a really good external optical drive that adds a tremendous amount of functionality for a tiny price. Another great strength of this product is the way the integral cable stows underneath the drive and has dual termination – USB-A & USB-C.
The ability to take a couple of movies with you when travelling and to be able to write CD’s or even play audio CD’s on the go is tremendous and to do it all with a device that needs no set up and is such good value means that this is above 5 stars!!!

This is ideal for me, I wanted an occasional dvd drive that I could pop in my laptop bag from time to time and that would work in both my PC and my Macbook. I know any old DVD drive would probably do both, but having both the USB-A and USB-C cables in one is a massive help and saves me having to mess about with adapters. It worked plug and play in both my machines and worked just fine with both, powering straight from the USB. It’s thin, really light weight, without feeling too flimsy and the drawer still feels solid enough and not like you might break it at any moment. Nice drive, no messing about, looks well enough and does the job without fuss.

Simple to use. Beeped when plugged into my Dell Linux Mint Cinnamon laptop, LED lite up to show the Unit was getting power. Mounted drive when I Inserted a disk.
Fast delivery and packaged so that it posts through the letter box.

It did the job for burning CDs to my laptop, but when I plugged my phone into the cable, it wasn’t recognised, so I had to plug it into my laptop with a separate cable

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis cd/dvd drive couldn’t have been easier to use. It didn’t need any setting up at all; just plug in and use. There is a handy storage area on the underside of the drive, where the cable fits tidily when not in use. The only reason I haven’t given 5* is because it is a tad more expensive than other brands but there again, I didn’t want to risk a cheap model as I needed it to install some software onto my laptop. So very happy with my purchase overall.

Amazon driver just posted it through the letter box. Luckily it sustained no damage.
My laptop uses Windows 10 and has just been updated and setting up anything that is USB, DVD or, plug & play related is a pain. This comes with instructions on how to set it up unfortunately I had to use the internet to get it set up as it appears the instruction do not cover what you have to do to connect it in the latest Windows 10. However once installed and the computer recognised it, it has worked perfectly. The open/close button is easy to reach and has worked first time every time. I would recommend this CD/DVD player but suggest going on to the internet if the computer does not recognise i

I have no complaints. My MacBook registered the DVD/CD Drive as soon as I put the CD and DVD into the player. The music and film also played with no problems. It’s also very nice that it has a split cable which means I can also plug it into a laptop if I want to. Very happy with my purchase and will be buying another one.

Update: I bought another because of how impressed I was, This one was to be plugged into a desktop, and although the VLC video software didn’t work when playing movies, another media player was downloaded which then allowed for DVDs to be played.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWorks fine reading and ripping CDs. Make sure you read the instructions to install and set up the right software to open and use. Also USB port at front of a desktop may not be suitable to hook this unit up to (mine wasn’t) – use port at rear of machine. This is also explained in the instructions.
