This is great to have on your desk if you don’t have a built in DVD drive. It not only works flawlessly and can connect to your laptop with both USB C and USB A, but it also comes with a couple USB ports and SD card socket so you can use it as a sort of mini hub too! Good DVD burning performance at 8x speed, not the fastest but enough for the odd occasion you might need one. Would recommend!
I was looking for a cheap external CD/DVD drive for my PC (mine doesn’t have an internal one now). I searched reviews before buying to see if any customers had mentioned how effective this was or wasn’t at ripping music CD to create digital files. I can confirm is anyone is also having these thoughts, that it works a treat in Windows 10 at ripping to mp3 etc. It’s really quiet and very slimline. Perfect for the job really!

Always like to have an optical drive and my new PC doesn’t have one so got this. Compact so easily lives in the drawer. Easy to use. Great that it has some features like the different connection types and a card reader.

This is a brilliant value item that works well for reading media (and can also write – but nobody does that anymore).
The writer is very small and compact – whilst it feels cheap – when you remember the price, and how much this can do, it’s acceptable. It’s even thin enough I can add this to my zipped macbook sleeve in the front compartment without any issue.
The black colour looks nice – and the design on top is reminiscent of vinyl. The attached cables are nice and tidy and pre-attached to the drive, but a spare is also supplied if this is too short.
The drive itself read CDs and DVDs I tried without any problems and without excessive spin noise however it is constantly audible when reading in use. There was minimal vibration which is great for an external drive.
In addition to the disc functionality, you could also use this as a usb-SD-TF hub has it has these additional ports which are a nice touch.
In all – whilst hardly any of us use external media anymore given we have the cloud and external hard drives for storage needs, this is still great for needing to copy data from the occasional DVD-ROM we encounter or to watch that DVD movie that isn’t easy to find digitally – or even to install some very old Windows games.
In this regard it excels at a great price point.
This is a nice little external DVD drive. As most computer cases these days have no external drive bays, an external drive is good to have.
Add to that, it also has USB ports, and a full size SD card reader, it becomes a very useful little addition to your compute
This product I bought thinking I could use with my Chromebook as long as I downloaded the correct software.
It arrived early, set it up, downloaded the software and……….. No it doesn’t work. All is not lost though.
If you have a Windows OS laptop or PC, this little kit is recognised straight away so you can start listening to your cd collection Whoop whoop.
There are multiple slot’s for Memory cards, thumbdrives etc so you can easily transfer files from one to the other so all of your files are now in one place.
Lightweight and durable and portable. So you can’t really go wrong.
This is a great plug and play drive. My laptop had no problems recognising it and I could instantly play CDs and DVDs. I used it to burn a compilation CD on my laptop as the optical drive in the laptop is not functioning. This external drive is the perfect solution. Also, I have been thinking of upgrading to a new laptop and it is virtually impossible to find one with an optical drive included so this, again, is the perfect solution. I haven’t tried the card reader function and don’t need it with this laptop but it could be useful if I upgrade as some don’t have card readers built in. It has a USB and a ‘C’ connection and both work equally well. The instructions advise to plug the drive in directly not via a USB hub. this is so the drive is powered by the laptop but it does come with a power cable to use it with an external power source. It has a very short cable which is fine if using it on the desk or table next to a laptop but if I were to plug it into a USB on the back of my tower PC, it would have to dangle! I am delighted with it and can certainly recommend it for burning and playing CDs and playing DVDs as I have used it.
Quite lightweight to store and very easy to use, just plug and play. Left a star off as I haven’t had chance to use the CD yet. For the current price of 20.99 it looks inline with other similar products I have seen on the market.

There is an attached cable which fits in a perfectly sized channel at the base of the drive, and it is both a standard USB plug as well as a USB-C plug, in one cable. That works very well indeed. There is a separate USB-Micro cable as well if needed.
The other sockets work ok, though I can’t verify speeds unfortunately. There is plenty of connectivity including SD socket, TF socket (can’t be used at the same time as the SD), 2 x USB sockets, and a micro socket (for charging only). The instructions and specs aren’t particularly clear, so it could be that I’m not getting as much out of this as I could be, however I only got it as a ripper.
The eject action is a bit poor, only ejecting the disk a very short amount. There should be more distance on the ejection mechanism I feel.
Performance for playback and ripping is excellent though.
A few changes could make this a 5* product, particularly with clarification of the actual functionality.
This cable is far too short. It wouldn’t reach to the other side of my laptop to sit the player on the desk. I have to rest the player on my laptop. Totally not good.
Apart from that short cable problem the player is actually quite good. It does the job. I just plugged it in opened the draw – put in a dvd and a box came up asking me which media player I wanted to use. So no need to set it up in settings or download any drivers.
It’s quite slim in size so easy to store and transport.
I especially like the card reader that can transfer data, photos etc direct from the card to the pc or laptop. There’s also usb slots to charge a phone. I like those extras
It’s average price but you get a bit extra with this with the sd and tf reader.
Whats not to like apart from the extremely short cable. If it had a useable length cable I would have given it 5 stars but this cable is just too short to be any use to anyone that doesn’t have masses of desk space free
