Festool fan boys look away now, this review may upset you.
This is an amazing sander, and does an exceptional job. It is better than the Festool.
Yes I did just say that but I genuinely feel it is. Granted there is not huge amounts of difference on paper but this just removes stuff better, it clears off finish in next to no time and if you use good discs like the Cubitron then the extraction is great. It is not a fine detail sander, (Festool make a good one of those) but if you want rapid removal and good dust extraction then this is the one.
Given the price point its great and if you pick it up on one of the occasions Amazon have a deal then its exceptional.
I do find the turbo function very strong and you do have to really hold the machine while it doing its thing, I suggest day one you use a pad saver on it as you don’t want to wear out the backing velco pad if you are using mesh like discs.
Surprisingly for a sander this size it doesn’t vibrate as much as I thought it would and you don’t end up with a tingling sensation you get from using cheap palm sanders.
I did take a while deciding on my next sander and it was a choice between the Bosch, 3m and Festool. I am certainly not tied to particular manufacturer having brought many different brands and now I always try and get the best tool for the job. I don’t regret this purchase and people that have used both the festool and bosch agree with me. I just wish I had brought it far sooner.
I purchased this sander to smooth out the holes I’ve filled around my house. It’s very powerful and gets the job done quickly and easily. I have no doubt this will help sand down my doors for painting.
Best sander I have ever used – slightly on the heavy side but excellent quality and great at removing old finish. Great dust collection and not as noisy as I expected.
Best aggressive orbital on the market, fast material removal, excellent dust extraction capability, never gets hot, aligns with both inner and outer hole sand paper, this is an absolute steal at 235
I’m a Bosch fan but this sander was nowhere near as powerful as my rotex 150 its got good reviews and seen some good reviews on YouTube but my sander would really slow down just with the slightest of pressure so had to send it back.
Definitely would recommend this for any wood worker. Not used it for anything else but so far its been amazing for reducing the amount of time, I have had to spend sanding.
Hi all,
I’ve had this tool for couple of months now and I love it!
It’s my favourite tool in my woodworking workshop.
I’m manly using reclaimed wood for my project that requires a lot of sanding. It used to be extremely time consuming to do sanding but with this tool it’s quick, easy and fun!
The turbo mode is amazing and removes lots of wood in no time just to make super you hold the tool properly and have a clamps on your piece of wood!
I can’t find a single bad thing to say about this sander.
LOW vibration!
Dust extraction is spot on!
Turbo mode removes a lot of wood instantly!
Doesn’t leave “circles” marks when sanding properly!
I’d recommend to use good brand of sanding pads to make your life easier.
I use Bosch and they last a lot longer than your average sanding pad.
I use these types of machines regularly in my profession and sought a replacement reserve for my Festool rotex which I consider excellent for what it does. The Bosch was recently marketed at the time and so after some consideration decided to buy. Since its purchase I now use it more than the Festool and the reasons are that its just as effective at material removal and surface preparation in rotary and RO mode; It’s dust collection is as good (which surprised me) and the Bosch runs slightly quieter and cooler after long periods of use. It’s more ergonomic and comfortable to use and considerably cheaper which makes it even better although you can change the Festool pads much more quickly and it feels more of a quality, robust machine. I’ve used it hard for nearly two years now so I think reliability is established and as you can buy two for the price of one Festool you can’t go wrong.
Beware of Amazon Warehouse deal – the serial number was removed so could not be registered with Bosch for 3 -year warranty. The one I bought was from Amazon Warehouse Deal – “Used like New” discount of 20%. I don’t know if the serial number from the body of machine was removed by a customer or perhaps it was a Bosch reject or classed as refurbished – I’m not sure? You still get 12-month warranty with Amazon under UK consumer law – Amazon confirmed this. As DIY’er this will be good enough for me as my tools tend to last for years and years with light occassional use.
Its an excellent sander and great value compared to Festool Rotex 150 which costs over 500. The Bosch costs around 300 from other retailers. I bought this because it was a Amazon Warehouse deal “Used like New”. I paid close to 200 so sounded like a good deal.
The Bosch GET sander has a nice slim body making it easy to hold even with small hands. Balances very well. It is a two-handed sander due its shape. The geared mode strips wood surface down very quickly compared to orbital mode. Using on a vertical surface was no problem such as doors or plastered wall. For very long periods (hours and hours) I would suggest a lighter sander for vertical surfaces.
I used Mirka Abranet sandpaper which was excellent for dust collection connected to both by Festool CTM-26 vac and Screwfix Titan vacuum.
The dust collection tube does stick out slightly to the left side. Its located on the side rather than underneath the body of the sander. This is only a small gripe. It hasn’t got in the way of anything yet but could be worth thinking about if your very close up to something.
I would recommend this sander as its almost half the price compared to Festool Rotex 150. Not sure of its long continuous run time as only a hobby-diyer.
Edit – the kit comes in a cardboard carton box, no Bosch L-Boxx case. I did buy a separate Festool SYS-2 systainer, its just about fits diagonally but its only about 1mm spare on the vertical height when you close the systainer lid. I would probably suggest a Festool SYS-3 would be less of a squeeze if you use Festool systainers as your tool storage.
