Great item makes life a lot easier when measuring and scribing but can be a little loose at times so you have to make sure you screw it tight and keep checking it.
Overall the combination square seems well made, the scribe pin only pushed in with a plastic holder so doesnt fit firmly in and i feel it wont take long to get lost.
The locking nut comes loose in use so you need to be careful if accuracy and duplication are key.
It cheap so can’t complain too much.
Value for money and did ok for my needs
Not the most sturdy but plenty good enough for round the house. I’ve been using it for fitting laminate flooring and it’s just the job.
Can’t complain at all on this one and it will stay in my house tool bag for future jobs.
I recently updated our kitchen floor and added self adhesive vinyl wood effect planks. This tool came in handy and made light work of the job, especially because it came with a scoring tool that sits just in the top of the main section. It was especially great when needing to cut bits to size, whilst although I only used the measurement parts on the ruler a couple of times to get the sizes I wanted, having this tool that gave me a good right angle so I could score the flooring planks without the metal ruler shifting when scoring. I found I only needed to do 3 times in the same direction each time and then I could gently bend the plank so it would snap perfectly at the line that I scored it, and then lay the plank easily. I did find however for the smaller measurements Ie. 1,2, or 3cm’s once you moved the main part down to those sizes and then screwed it tight to keep it in place it didn’t give you a perfect 90 degree angle, more like 88/89 degrees hence the 4 stars and not 5 but it didn’t massively affect the job that I wanted it for, and made the job a lot easier.
This is a very simple tool at a great price. After reading some of the other reviews I wanted make sure that I tested all those areas that others saw as lacking.
I found the item to be strong and sturdy. The measurements are etched out correctly, and I tested against 3 other measurement tools that I already own. I like that it has the spirit level attached and, again, I tested this and it appears to be working fine.
I was able to screw the two pieces together tightly and this didnot move as I used the tool; how this will fair over time, I cannot say at the moment. The tool appears to create accurate angles and this was proven during the tests above.
The only thing I found at fault, which is why I’ve put the minus one star, is that it only measures in cm’s and not inches. I have a terrible head for measurements so it would have been helpful for one section of the ruler on boths sides to have inches ruled out.

Handy addition to the tool box
Good range of features.
We like the sliding/adjustable square measure
We haven’t scored this 5 stars because where the slidingadjustable square measure locks into place, it’s a bit flimsy and this makes this prone to error – so potentially this could let you down accuracy wise.
There are a few slightly rough edges on this that give away the fact it’s pretty cheap, but it’s not a big problem and it does do the job well. There’s a bit of play in the sliding part but it still seems to be accurate enough for most DIY tasks.
It’s especially helpful that it has a built in spirit level and scribing tool, you can get a lot done with this without going looking for various other tools.
I’m only using it in a fairly basic way but for that it seems absolutely fine and I’m happy with it.
I got this to replace an old model and the first thing I noticed was how lightweight this felt, which was confirmed on the scales, the Maxperkx at 134 g and my old (unbranded) one at 225 g. The old body is about 10% smaller though, and the rule is thinner too, although thick enough (for its length), to not feel at all flimsy.
One of the big attractions of the Maxperkx compared to my old model is the rule being marked only in cm on all four edges. The big problem with my old combination square was the mixture of units: with cm, 1/8″, 1/32″ and mm on the four edges, so when working, swapping from one side to the other meant looking for the correct scale (usually on the wrong edge) and interpreting the difference. The Maxperkx avoids this with the four ‘cm’ scales all starting from zero at the same end — I look forward to using it in earnest for this characteristic. It is perhaps the one aspect of the design they got right, much of the rest looks the part (in a photo), but to an engineer, is often found lacking in the implementation.
Regarding rule clamping, this is not at all satisfying due to the lack of tension spring and also that the groove is rectangular, not semi-circular (I’m sure the latter provides an element of self-centring). The similarly rectangular tab that engages in the groove is significantly smaller than the groove width, providing considerable room for misalignment, although, to be fair, my old one is almost as bad. In use, frequent adjustment and tightening, I found it would often clamp finger-tight well, then be impossible to undo without recourse to a pair of pliers to loosen. I just can’t help feeling a tool produced to better tolerances (and detail design) could be so much better.
On the plus side, the scribing pin feels safely retained (albeit by friction only) and is effective on wood, I have long since lost my old one. Personally I wouldn’t rely on the spirit level bubble in such a tool, but it is much easier to see than the one in my old tool and did give the same ‘answer’ in alternate directions on a slightly off-level surface.
At this price I didn’t expect too much but, to be honest, I wasn’t disappointed. That is not a bad appraisal it is just saying that it is a basic angle ruler that is calibrated well, has a working spirit level and does what you require.
Only one niggle, the edges of the ruler feel a little sharp – maybe a bit of grinding would have smoothed it off – but that is not to say that it is too sharp, I don’t expect it scratch or cut.
However, at this price I am not that bothered.
So… it works, it is cheap. That’s it.
Decent quality though not brilliantly finished which is perfectly fine with me as at this price with free Prime delivery included. It’s a bit of a steal as it’s accurate to 0.003 @ 90 and 0.008 @ 45 when I calibrated it so the tolerances are acceptable.
It’s perfectly trustworthy and more than adequate for my needs so I’m happy to recommend it.
Thanks for taking the time to read my short review, I hope you found it helpful.
All the bes
The steel rule is a good thickness and nice and strong. Not a bendy rule for slapping off knuckles. The sliding part can be used for marking right angles or just lengths from the end of a piece.
There’s a nice clamp on the sliding part and even has a detachable pin for marking metal/wood which is really handy. With a 45 degree flat as well as 90. The level is a nice feature too
My only issue is the the sliding part has a bit of wobble and means it may not be a perfect square/ 45 degrees. If you screw in the clamp it is solid but makes me wonder how accurate the angle is.
For marking lengths off an end piece it is fantastic just clamp at a length you want sit the flat on the end and mark it up.
I got this combination square for my husband. He says it feels a bit lightweight and small but that it works well enough. The finish on it isn’t great. The ruler feels to have some rough edges and there appears to be a bits of dried glue on the fixture. The ruler is metric only, no imperial inches.
This tool is currently priced at 6.95 which is substantially cheaper than the well known brands. The quality isn’t great with this combination square but the price reflects that. It’s a decent tool, given the price.
