I use this product to make cappuccinos. It is easy to use, but the water container is too small for two mugs so you have to refill halfway through second mug. Annoying
This is the 3rd machine we have had this year. We originally brought our first Dolce Gusto machine many years ago and it was brilliant since then have replaced the machine many times we do use it very frequently but that’s what we buy them for to use. So far so good machine is working well at the moment so fingers crossed.
Good machine, the pods are easy to find and relatively inexpensive, but I prefer the old design with the automatic cut off, where I could set the amount of water I wanted to add.
Bought to replace a previous model, Delonghi Jovia that has lost pressure. It’s uglier, harder to fill with water and has less room for a tall cup than the previous model which was great. But apart from that it works which is the main thing
The water container is small but with there being only two of us that’s fine. I personally use re-fillable pods (less land fill waste) but with this machine they can pop open and spill some coffee grinds in to cup and then the whole area drips water and coffee so bit difficult to contain. But on the whole is quick, efficient and still makes a damn good coffee.
I like the product a lot and it’s definitely worth the money. It comes with a nice design and good finishing. The only thing I can complain, and this could be my lack of research, is that the machine itself doesn’t have water auto stop function. It is purely manual and you can adjust the water level only by manually stopping it. My another model does come with level setting so that it will stop automatically once you have set it. Will suggest other buyers pay attention to this and decide if this is something critical to you.
Bought this little coffee machine as I was sick of instant. It’s not exactly the top of the range, and I have to admit I didn’t realise it was a manual one until it arrived, however it’s instantly hot and the coffee quality is far superior to that of my parents tassimo machine or any instant!
Can’t complain for the price, just a bit of an oversize on my end for thinking I bought an auto one
starting off this would be 4 and a half star due to noise and having to use smaller mugs, so it gets 4.
other then that it’s great the coffee taste nice and there is a wide selection to choose from premade lattes and mixes like mocha etc. you can also get espresso and make your own latte and other milk based coffee drinks if you do not like the dried milk style pods.
There is also a few more “posh” style brews for when you want a different notes to change up your coffee if you get bored.
My previous dolce gusto machine had gone to ‘coffee heaven’ after 10 faithful years. Being limited on space I decided to buy a smaller model that I could leave on the worktop , as it gets used so much. The piccolo xs is the perfect size for a smaller family and due to the dimensions takes up the same space as an average size kettle. The machine is so easy to use and clean. My favourite drink is cappuccino and the hot chocolate and the great thing is that with the offer of 6 free boxes of pods I got to try lots of other flavours too, my current drink of choice is the vanilla latte. When you work out how much a coffee is from the leading chain, this machine pays for itself after a few weeks if you have a drink everyday. I couldn’t live without it.
1. This is a manual machine so you have to judge how much water you want to use to make your coffee. (There are guides as to suggested water amounts on the pod boxes but being manual you can make your coffee weaker or stronger to your own taste because it’s manual.)
2. The instructions are not really clear. It took me a while to work out and at first I thought it was faulty. There is no on/off switch. Once plugged in and switched on at the socket the start light will not light up until you lift the pod holder lid and remove the pod tray. This is the trigger for the automatic start light to flash red then turn green when ready.
So a) plug in
b) fill water container
c) lift pod holder lid and remove pod holder (automatic start light lights red and turns green in @ 40s)
d) put pod in holder, holder in its place, close the lid
e) push the switch to add water to make your drink – add the amount you want for the flavour you want.
3. There are three heights that can be used. The machine comes with fixed drip tray – use this for tall drinks. The extra drip tray clips over this for ‘normal’ cup sizes. It can also be fixed halfway up the machine (mine is a red circle) for use with espresso sized cups.
4. Have found that it’s best to remove pod immediately after making a drink – forgot once and pod stuck so had to manipulate it out.
Was disappointed at first until worked out the correct sequence for it to work. Small, compact, manual machine. Ideal for a quick, hot coffee. Not tried other flavours yet so can’t comment on those.
Took me ages to find a manual machine as descriptions are always a bit unclear until you read the reviews. I chose this model because it’s manual i.e. you have to judge/control the amount of water. I know this is a disadvantage for lots of people who like the barcode-reading machines but I just don’t like the automatic options as you never seem to get a full cup. Personally I would rather have a nice full mug than what’s apparently the ‘perfect’ amount of coffee.
If you are having the coffees with milk pods it may take some time to get quantities right but I only have Americano and add my own milk so it suits my purposes fine.
Model is compact so good for a small kitchen.
Coffee seems hot although as I use cold milk I tend to blast in microwave! So far so good.
