Earlier this year I bought a very cheap (under 20) beard trimmer from Argos. What a waste of money that was! It was next to useless in terms of cut and measurement. So I cut my losses and splashed out more for this one, and it’s really good. I don’t have a hefty beard, and at the most go for a long (4 or 5 mm) growth that needs a cut back, but it does that fine, and is accurate, easy to handle, and all-round easy to use.
I finally relented & purchased this to replace a stubble trimmer I had used for something like 15 years. The battery was shot & I had replaced the blade cover once already, so it was about time.
Good:
– Great value for the price I paid
– Functionally the same as what I previously owned, which saw me well
– Battery life is hugely better than my old trimmer (to be expected)
– Decent quality
Not so good
– It is fairly easy to knock the trim length wheel when in use. Luckily doesn’t happen too often
– There is no charging LED (or if there it, mine does not work), so difficult to know when charged
Very reliable trimmer and it’s pretty strong. It’s easy to use and I prefer changing the length settings on the actual trimmer than having to change various guards for the desired length
I bought this in February and for the first 6 months it worked well, easy to adjust and with a good cut at a good price.
However after 6 months it stopped holding charge, a days charging would only run for about 30 seconds. I may have got a bad one but I have seen other people with similar reports.
Update: Phillips warranty process was relatively straight forward but does require a magnify glass to read serial and model numbers off the old device. The new one arrived within the week and is working well. I’ve changed the score to 4 stars as the trimmer is very good while it works but can’t give 5 stars due to the failure
I wish they had more attachments or an adjustable one. I think they only have numbers 1,2,3,5 and 9. There needs to be bigger sizes too. It is a good trimmer barring the attachments. I’m quite an expert of trimmers thus so.
For the price this is amazing love not having all the attachments to keep changing and that one attachment does everything with a dial on the appliance to change the length. Just a word of warning tho number 2 is much shorter than a grade 2 it’s more like 0.5. Also it’s a bit hard to see the charging light which is actually on the plug but overall it’s fab n does a great clean close haircut and beard shave
The first one broke after a year of usage (I could refund easily since it was a battery issue) and since this is so good value of money, I bought another one right after.
Good battery, good speed on the blades, doesn’t cause any scar, very clever way to control the length – you can’t mess the length mid-shave because it doesn’t move up and down by pressing it, it’s a dial.
The only downside which is not a problem for me is it takes a bit long to charge fully, given smartphones charge crazy fast these days. But the battery life is quite enough to last through many shaves.
Very good precision setting on the clippe
4.5 stars. I use it only once a week and I have not charged it for a few weeks now. It is very powerful but a little noisier than I would hav3 preferred. Still a quality product.
So I’ve gone from a Phillip’s all singing and dancing hair and beard trimmer (broke after 5 or so years of use) to this as I no longer am a cheap skate getting my hair cut at home!
Its…fine. Not great, not bad….just middle of the road really.
Does the job but I dont feel it does anything well….nor badly.
So yeah – it works!
Pretty good, head cuts well from 0.5mm. Day to day you find yourself styling due to the length rotator tweaking your groom.
Cleaning is a pain due to the no liquid requirementsof the shaver, Yet a cheeky spash to clean does no harm.
Only issue is its a bit sharp. You do feel the guard against your face, chest etc, Hard plastic. Needs must.
