Perfect had a problem and used other stuff but this has seemed to due the job straight away my misses has spent loads on plants that have been eaten not anymore but slugs
As much as I tried natural deterrents for slugs, this year was horrendous and they just destroyed everything
Since I sprinkled this on my flower bed, they are finally growing. So it does the job
I haven’t seen any snails eating my carrots, so I assume they work, I did have a snail invasion in my garden (very strange and never seen that before) but the veg survived, was it a side effect of using this product, probably not, and the veg survived so I think they probably work well.
Every year I get lots of slugs that decimate any new plants and scoff all the lawn seed I try to repair lawn patches with. This year I used this slug killer, spreading around the edges of the lawn where the raised beds are and anywhere else I see slug trails. After a couple of weeks the slugs have disappeared and the grass seed is still where I put it, so I can confidently say it works. Sorry slugs but there are too many of you and no hedgehogs around to provide natural control.
Great to use with young plants which need protection when getting going. My clematis was unable to get going as all the new leaves got eaten. I put these down for a few weeks & it now has enough growth that the odd nibble doesn’t matte
I bought this as I searched for pet friendly slug pellets but I’m not convinced after reading the information on the tub. I’d been using beer traps previously so I’ve just filled the dried slug traps with the pellets to be on the safe side as I didn’t like the idea of endangering any wildlife (or my dog). Remains to be seen if this will attract slugs.
Update : changed the rating to 5 as I found several deceased snails in the bait pots and most of the pellets gone, so presumably slugs have also been dining out and gone home to pass away.
2024 has been wet and is Slug/Snail heaven so far, the hedgehogs are next to useless in clearing the garden of these pests and the slugs have decimated plants that they don’t normally touch ! Have therefore had to resort to using slug/snail pellets to stop plants being consumed on a biblical scale. Have been around garden at night with torch (imitating a lighthouse to much amusement to my neighbours) and have found loads of slugs more than snails, but have not the time to allocate to this, so hedgehog is redundant napalm the slugs with pellets. So for the traveling community in my area don’t clay bake the hedgehogs as they might make you ill from the few poisoned slugs they may have consumed but then again maybe not as round hear they leave out dog food for them, if you were a hedgehog what would you go for dog/cat food or slimy mollusc (unless you’re a French hedgehog) ?
I’ve tried everything; copper bands, eggshells, Vaseline, coffee grounds. None worked on the slugs and snails in my garden. Even thick leaved Hostas were eaten.
But just to check that it would not affect my garden birds, I rang the tel number on the back of the tub. And within an hour someone rang me back! He described how the pellets work and assured me the birds would not be affected. Brilliant Customer Service!
Have re ordered.
Effective product on slugs i can protect my plants with this. I tried natural methods but they not working especially spring time
Just be careful if you have a cat. My cat eaten couple of them but she was okay after still be carefull while using
After trying numerous products this was the only one which actually works. I had hundreds of slugs in my veg patches and using this they slowly disappeared. Many died on the ground after eating the pellets
Larger than expected drum of pellets. They really work, no ugly gritters on my garden path, plants and garden area. They have even been able to slither under the front door into the hall. But after putting pellets an front door step they have left me alone.
I am not a great one for garden chemicals. I find with aphids, for example, that if you leave them alone tits and ladybirds, especially their larvae, will do a fine job in clearing them, lacewing populations grow and, especially early in the season, wasps kill and eat a fair old number.
I must admit though I do control vine weevils and the bright red Lily beetle, and this year has been particularly bad for slugs. Any young plants planted out were eaten down to ground level overnight. The old standby was slug pellets containing metaldehyde, which affected mucus production, resulting in trails of slime and dead slugs around treated areas.
The pellets were usually blue to make them less effective to birds, but they still affected other wildlife including animals and birds eating the dead, poisoned slugs, the chemical contaminated water supplies and pets sometimes ate pellets making them ill. So, the chemical was banned for agricultural use in April, 2022.There is a misconception blue pellets were banned, but it is just that particular formulation.
These pellets are also blue and contain ferric phosphate which effectively prevents slugs from eating, so they starve to death. It appears to be less effective as there are usually no slugs to be found around the treated areas. This is because it doesn’t kill slugs instantly, they can’t eat so they go off to hide where they die unseen. The real effect can be seen in the lack of damage rather than the lack of slugs.
It has the advantage there are no dead slugs to dispose of, but the disadvantage is that the decomposing bodies of the hidden dead slugs could attract more slugs. Slugs might be annoying when they eat seedlings but they do a fine, unheralded job, as scavengers carrying out garden, garbage disposal of organic matter and even carrion.
They are also food for amphibians, many birds and hedgehogs so in areas of the garden where they are not a problem, and most plants can afford a few nibbled leaves, it is best to leave them be and limit protection to susceptible crops and young plants where this product seems to work well.
The container has a small hole at the top, nothing technical, which allows you to shake out enough pellets with a single shake to protect a small area around a plant without touching the pellets at all.
There are enough for at least a couple of seasons or more with my limited slug control on small sections of the garden so for me it is an excellent product at a good price.
These worked like a dream, conto
Rolled the slug problem and all my veggies are now un eaten. Rate well, done the job. Bonus that they fertilise if un eaten.
Does exactly what it says on the tub. Easy to use and perfect for causing the agonising death of slugs and snails so they don’t eat your hard earned garden investments .
As a customer who has used PROTECT GARDEN Slug & Snail Killer Max, I am providing a review outlining the good and bad aspects of this product.
The good:
1. Effective slug and snail control: PROTECT GARDEN Slug & Snail Killer Max is highly effective in controlling slugs and snails in the garden. The powerful pellets contain an active ingredient that attracts and kills these pests, helping to protect ornamental plants and garden vegetables from damage.
2. Organic gardening approved: One of the advantages of this product is that it is approved for use in organic gardening. This means that it can be used to protect plants in a way that aligns with organic gardening principles, minimizing the use of synthetic chemicals.
3. Easy application: The pellets are easy to apply, either by scattering them around the affected areas or placing them in slug and snail traps. This makes it convenient to target specific areas of the garden or to protect individual plants.
4. Long-lasting control: PROTECT GARDEN Slug & Snail Killer Max provides long-lasting control, keeping slugs and snails at bay for an extended period. This reduces the need for frequent reapplication and helps to maintain plant health.
The bad:
1. Potential harm to non-target organisms: Like many slug and snail control products, there is a risk of harm to non-target organisms, such as beneficial insects or wildlife that may come into contact with the pellets. It is important to follow the instructions carefully and use the product sparingly and responsibly.
2. Persistence of slug and snail populations: While PROTECT GARDEN Slug & Snail Killer Max is effective in reducing slug and snail populations, it may not provide complete eradication. In areas with high slug and snail activity or during wet weather conditions, additional control measures or repeated applications may be necessary.
3. Attraction to pets or wildlife: The pellets may be attractive to pets or wildlife, so it is important to prevent access to treated areas. Store the product securely and keep it out of reach of children and animals.
Overall, PROTECT GARDEN Slug & Snail Killer Max is an effective solution for controlling slugs and snails in the garden. It offers easy application, long-lasting control, and is approved for organic gardening. However, care should be taken to minimize the impact on non-target organisms and to prevent access by pets or wildlife. Following the instructions and using the product responsibly will help protect plants while minimizing environmental impacts.
My back garden was infested with snails. 1000s and 1000s of them devouring my plants. someone had piled up pots and gardening stuff in my beds and made the whole place dark and damp, I had been unwell last year so didn’t do the garden, have a lot of snails anyway ( no slugs though although I do see baby ones, so maybe my frogs and toads eat them?)
I bought these and wasn’t expecting much, sprinkled around the garden just after watering, so they got nice and fat. Now a few days later I still see loads of snails but they are not alive and my plants are no longer being eaten.
I bought two pots and still have more than half of one left, so does take much at all.
I have no idea what supersonic snails people who are saying it doesn’t work, have, but Im glad I just have all the regular ones. I also have cats and have not seen them show any interest in the pellets..
