Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve been dying my hair blue for almost 10 years now and have tried almost every brand available, Stragazer royal blue is honestly the best and I use it every time!
It’s not too dark and it takes a very long time to fade, it goes through all different shades of blue when fading, doesn’t turn green unless it’s left for a very very long time. I hadn’t recoloured my hair for 8 months due to a shoulder injury and the second picture is what the colour looked like (wet) before dying again (first pic) it had only just started to turn that awful green colour that most blue dyes leave you with after just a few washes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best for blues!

It does bleed a lot when applying and washing so DEFINITELY wear gloves and protect, skin, clothes and anything you don’t want to get dyed!!!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEdit:
I ended up buying this dye again and I’ve gotten better at washing it out without making a mess, I’ve tried loads more pinks and this one is the best 100% it holds significantly longer than any other dye
    End of edit:

This dye is pretty good for the price I won’t lie HOWEVER there are a couple things to take note of

The dye itself smells like someone burped into it before it was sent, it’s like rotton breath its not very pleasant. Thought it was the ammonia smell but apparently that isn’t in this dye so who knows what that is

The dye is a bit darker than I wanted it to be as well, I wanted like a neon pink and I knew I was pushing my luck with this anyways. I did mix it with a tiny bit of Adore pink dye but it still came out like this. The first pic of my dyed hair is right after it was done, it was darker in person

Third of all, this dye bleeds loads which other people also said. My blue bath mat is still pink in the middle and it’s been weeks. It still bleeds out a fair bit of dye as well but at least my whole back isn’t stained anymore!

In the 2 pics of my hair after it was dyed, the second one is after 5 of 6 washes? So it’s held up incredibly well honestly. I’m quick with washing my hair and I use bed hair colour protective shampoo & conditioner
I do wash my hair with warm/ hot water tho

If you want this sorta colour then I definitely recommend this, if you have multiple colours in your hair like I do, I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are SO CAREFUL to not let it bleed over. I’m probably gonna use the rest of this on my boyfriends hair. I won’t use it on mine again just cause of the mess it made the first time

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts well but bleeds loads

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersIt colours my greys. I’m about 60% grey and it colours my greys just as well as it did when I would bleach my hair. I’ve used plume, turquoise and azure. I use about a third of a bottle for shoulder length (not very thick but not thin) hair. Will buy again when it runs out.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI am super impressed with the colour i must admit its one of the best i have used!!!
I washed my hair twice and still seing same colour ( used other brands where the colour fades away completely after 3 washes)
    The colour is very accurate.
Only took one start for the STAINING its unbelievable!! I ended up with blue stains everywhere … especially on my fingers, they would stain just by running my fingers through my hair the first week.
I had stains on my nails by just washing my hair !!! Very strong dye indeed.

The product itself was great and very easy to use, but when it was delivered and I got it out the Amazon packaging (which was perfect and not damaged) then the packaging of the product was very beaten up looking and bent, also the sticker wasn’t stuck down and it looked like it had been opened. Great product, terrible presentation.

I actually went to speak to Amazon’s customer service about it but as the product itself inside the packaging wasn’t damaged there was nothing to be done without returning it which I didn’t want to do as I needed to use it that day.

Despite that, I did repurchase the product literally a few hours ago because it’s much better than the other hair dye I used today so I still recommend.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersAbsolutely amazing

This is such a beautiful bright colour. My sister’s hair was dark red on the bottom half and a natural dark brown at the top.

We bleached this once, which left it orangy with a couple of darker patches but we didn’t have time to do another, as I was getting married two days later!

So we risked it and put the other 3 bottles on anyway and this was the beautiful result! Her roots were slightly pinker, which these had gone to quite a decent blonde, so I’m guessing if you were a bright white blonde all over, you’re going to get an array of bright red and some pinks, throughout the hair.

The bottles are fairly small, so bare this in mind when you’re purchasing them! My sister’s hair is thick but not overly long! They mix well and go on easily. One of the three boxes looked a different colour on the outside but it was the same colour dye inside the bottle, so that’s good but I thought I’d mention incase anyone worried!

I would absolutely recommend this hair dye colour! Worth the price and it works brilliantly. Just slightly small size bottles!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI usually buy hair dye from Directions, but I decided spontaneously that I wanted to go pink so I bought this as I could get it the same day.
I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised by how bright and bold the colour turned out. The pictures are from the day after colouring, and then two weeks later. This is on bleached hair but only lifted to a light brown, not blonde. I wash my hair every other day. Directions dye is usually all washed out by now.
The one downside is that it is SO messy. I’m very careful when dying my hair but the pink stains quickly and it got everywhere. I used mould spray to clean my shower afterwards which did work. I avoided wearing white until I’d washed my hair twice, then I wore a white top to sleep in and the collar was stained pink when I woke up. My hands were stained every time I touched my hair when damp. That never happens when I use Directions.
The colour is gorgeous so I would still recommend, but just be careful for the few days after using it. Maybe use gloves when touching your wet hair!

My hair is natural mid brown with some greys with no colour/bleach so I was interested to see what coverage I would get. The colour was used on towel dried hair (with supplied gloves) and I found it a good consistency to apply with no mess and no harsh chemicals. The tube was more than enough to cover my shoulder length hair. Once applied I covered with a plastic bag & shower cap and left it for 30 mins. Once I rinsed off I was pleased that there was good colour, especially on grey strands but also on the brown hair. I have been slightly disappointed that the colour has washed out fairly quickly and really only lasted 3-4 washes (although there is still pale blue just on the grey, which looks lovely however at the price it would be easy to apply once every 2-3 weeks to maintain/enhance vivid colour. In conclusion: I would buy again.

So, my bleached blonde hair grew out & I had dark roots. I wanted to dye my hair pink & purple. Purple roots to pink ends. But the purple (from a different company) took ages to arrive. So I got this product in magenta & black. I smudged out my regrowth with the black & faded it into the pink. I didn’t realise the black had a blue base, so when I washed it out, the pink became more of a purple. I loved it! I wanted it more purple anyways! That’s why I haven’t posted pictures, because my hair is more of a purple pink but that’s my own fault. But I think it will fade into the intended colour after a few washes. I’d also like to advise ignoring the part of the instructions that say “use on shampooed & towel dried hair” like I did because the hair sucks up the colour more when it’s dry. Also don’t rinse it out until it’s clear, just until the bubbles stop (if you use shampoo), and use cold water to make your colour last longer. Be careful with this product, it stains everything!! The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars. I wore old clothes & used old towels but it stained my floor, sink & bath. I had to scrub it several times with bleach & my hands are still bright pink days later. The glove had a hole in it & my finger went black, looked like when ppl loose their fingers to frostbite. Be SUPER careful with this product, i now have to repaint my white cabinet. This product will cause problems but I think the colour is worth it lol.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely colour, but stains EVERYTHING

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersAfter experimenting with different brands of pink hair dyes I decided to buy this one based on reviews. I can confirm that the colour is really bright and looks great. The only problem is that it will dye your bath and everything else, and it’s not easy to clean off. I also spent over half an hour when I rinsed it waiting for the water to come out clear but it never did. I’d also recommend putting Vaseline around your hairline and wiping it off your face if you get any on it. I usually ignore this when dying my hair as after a couple of showers and some scrubbing face-wash it comes off, but it wasn’t as easy with this one!

Sadly, it washes off quite easily, but then again so do all the other semi-permanent bright colours, so it wasn’t any worse than what I would have expected. It has been a month and I still have some left.

I have dark brown hair which I bleached to a light-orangey shade and this colour took really well and looked a deep fuschia. It definitely looks brighter and more intense than similar shades from other brands without needing to bleach your hair to platinum blonde/white.

As other reviews point out, the colour will bleed in the first week or so, so be prepared to have your bedding stained, as well as your clothes if you’ve got long hair. Having said that, the stains came out in the wash with no problems.

As per most non-permanent bright colourants, I would recommend leaving it on much longer than directed. I applied mine to towel-dry hair and left it on for about an hour. As it’s got no bleach or stripping agents, leaving it on won’t damage your hair, it’ll just make it look more intense. For lighter base colours you probably don’t need to leave it on that long to obtain the same result.

As much of a pain as it was to rinse it off and scrub the bath after dying my hair, I think the results were worth it and I will be buying it again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bright, nice colour. A bit messy to dye.

Golden Review Award: 134 From Our UsersI have used Stargazer colours on and off for a long time. Initially when I was younger they were the only unusual colours that you could buy in my very staid and traditional Bucks town and so we all bought these. The colour range was not as impressive as it is now though. Before we managed to get our mitts on Stargazer colours, we used to use electric blue and green mascara to dye the sides of our cropped heads (a bunch of us had mohicans). Additional colour could be added by growing dreads and weaving in bits of bright wool or ribbons but we were limited as to how freaky we could look. At the time I used to wear a mohawk with long dreads at the back and big spikes on top, a tie dyed wedding dress and army boots. To be honest my clothes taste is still pretty tragic but I have toned down a bit since I have got older, mainly because I have a small child and cannot be bothered with the faff of a high maintenance look. I do though still LOVE having stupidly coloured hair and I enjoy the psychedelic tramp look.

I am coming up to 44 and I have lots of white hair starting to come through. Unfortunately it is not enough that I can apply Stargazer neat, I still have to bleach parts of it. My hair is very long and I am loathe to trash it any more than I already have by bleaching it all so I tend to do chunks and streaks of bleaching which means my hair is usually multi-toned. Stargazer is very effective on light or bleached hair.

    THE PRODUCT:

Stargazer semi-permanent colour comes in a plastic tube in a cardboard box. It contains full instructions and some gloves. There are a range of truly wonderful and vibrant colours available to buy from lime green to bright red, violet to pale pink, but the ones that I have used most are the bright reds, violet, magenta and cobalt blue. I did at one point use all three colours in stripes all over my head. It looked far better than it sounds honestly….

This dye is gloopy and slightly thicker than it used to be when I were a lass. This is a good thing because dyeing your hair a stupid colour will also mean you end up dyeing your skin , ears and bath so be sure that you *really* like the shade that you choose. You get 75 ml in the bottle which is JUST enough to cover my hair (focal bleached bits and a tone to the rest which is dark) but really if you have long hair I suggest that you buy two boxes.

The bottle has a little silver foil seal which you remove and then replace the pointed lid. It has a special tip than you snip off with scissors and then you apply it. Sounds easy? It is. Technically. But no matter how hard you try you will make a mess.

This is a semi-permanent colour and is a stain rather than a dye really. The reds and magenta tend to last a long time but the violets and blue hues are high maintenance and fade fast. A weekly top up is needed to keep the blue tones looking good. I use a residue free shampoo and something gentle like Dr Bronner’s to try to make it last longer.

There is no real smell to the product because it is a stain. There is no peroxide or ammonia either but then you would probably have bleached the life out of your hair beforehand if you really want your hair to stand out.

There is no conditioner in the box but I use coconut oil and it seems to seal it in very effectively.
You WILL need the gloves. You will need bleach to rescue your bath. At least a few old towels will be needed too and do not forget the floor… this stuff does drip.

    HOW TO USE IT:

The box contains good and clear instructions on how to use this. I use it like this:

I wash my hair with a residue free shampoo – there is no point coating the hair shaft with vitamin whatever with b6 and x, y and z if it stops the dye from staining your hair. Use a good shampoo, different to your usual one to strip your hair of products and build up. I use Lush solid shampoo (Seanik), Dr Bronner’s or a Weleda body/hair wash. Do not condition your hair… again this coats the shaft. Then towel dry your hair and prepare yourself for a huge mess.

If you have long hair you can section it but I find that my hair knots when I do this so I just start at the crown and work it through. If you have a parting then try to part your hair differently because this stains your scalp for a bit and you will look like a) a plonker or b) like you have a rare and fluorescent skin disease. Work it through your hair by massaging it in. Sigh as you see the tips of your ears changing colour. I usually shove a plastic bag on my head with my hair piled up under it and then leave it to do its magic.

At this point you will survey your bathroom with a sinking heart. There will be blobs of colour everywhere. This is the time to bleach the bath especially if you have an enamel one. It will NOT come out of a bathroom carpet ( does anyone really still have those?) so you will be glad of the old towel that you stuck under your feet. You did remember that didn’t you? Oh….

    MESS MINIMISING:

Baby wipes are good for getting excess stain from your forehead, hairline, shoulders, ears and everywhere else that this damn stuff has sploshed. Milk helps too funnily enough. But no matter how hard you try, you will still look somewhat stained in places that really should not be that colour naturally. It does fade though… (eventually)…

The box says to leave the dye on for 15-30 minutes but I usually leave it on for an hour. It is a stain remember not a proper dye. The box states that this will not cover white/grey hair but it does with me.

    EFFICIENCY:

I have had some mad hair colours thanks to Stargazer dyes, bright blood red, cobalt, violet, magenta, bright pink…. and they really are very very bright. The bleaching makes the colour vibrant and having bright stripes in amongst darker tones of the same colour is eye-catching. The dyes vary in terms of how long that they last, as I said the blues/ purples are the shortest lived, and the reds/pinks tend to last much longer. I have managed to get the red to last 8 weeks with one top up but that was being careful and washing my hair very gently etc. The colour can be patchy if you do not massage it in enough so be careful to do that.

After using Stargazer I rinse until the water is clear and then condition it. When dry my hair is shiny and soft as usual. This dye will leave a colour on your pillow, especially if you are hot so I use dark pillowcases most of the time to avoid this. I top up the colour as and when I can be bothered. If you are more fussy than me then I would do it weekly for the purple/blue/green shades and fortnightly for the reds/pinks etc but you would not have to do a full dye job, just a top up.

The dye is high maintenance but so is having silly hair. Despite this (and the mess) I love the stuff and I enjoy having bright and unreasonably loud hair. I hope that eventually I go entirely white so that I no longer have to use bleach. I fully intend to be a pensioner rocking a Harley Davidson and stupid hair.
