If you need to keep things to keep things cool in a larger food bag, these are amazing for picnics or travelling! They are well made. They are slim but effective! The largest board is impressive and works so well! They freeze quickly and stay cold for a good many hours . I was worried that the large one wouldn’t fit in my freezer but it’s so slim that it slotted in easily! The smaller ones might be a bit big for a kid’s lunchbox but for keeping a bigger bag of food cold, they’re amazing!
These are very thin, I had a 24 can cool bag to take for a day out, not tried them out yet but the biggest plate fits the whole length of the back pack and the 2 medium ones I think will have to sit on the bottom and the top. Better than piles of small ones they sell for lunch boxes and if a warm day, may even keep my back cool too carrying it!
These are good quality but do bulge more than a little, so not ideal for all applications. I bought them for keeping things cold while I defrost the freezer and they are fine for that.
Often use cool blocks when I go shopping, especially in summer to ensure my food stays cool until I get it home.
These cool blocks are ideal for keeping your food cool for several hours.
Have another two sets of these and what is great about them being so flat is that you can fit them into a freezer without any problem. Freeze them overnight, pack them into your cooler bag and the food, drink will stay fresh all day. Convenient that it was delivered. I will always stick to these types of ice packs.
Having managed the lose all my old freezer boards, I was looking for sturdy new ones, ideally ones which hadn’t been shipped all the way from China. These are made in Ireland, are well-finished, freeze quickly and work very well. The large one is only suitable for a full size cool box, but the smaller ones are good for lunch boxes etc. I am confident that these will last for years (unless I lose them!).
Bought this as a recommended buy when buying ” Thermos 148864 Radiance Cooler, Navy, 24 Can/16 L” The large board is about 5cm too big to fit in it. Annoying when this is the recommended add-on and is the wrong size!!
This pack of freezer blocks for our cool bag was more expensive than I really wanted to pay but at the time couldn’t get out to the shops to buy. Didn’t realise the large pack was SO large-wouldn’t fit in my cool bag but the others are useful for keeping food cool and are lightweight which makes a difference if carrying your snack bag round for the day.
We bought these freeze blocks to keep frozen food frozen for a long trip to our self caring cottage in Scotland – the journey was about 10 hours during the hottest days we can remember for years and we weren’t very optimistic about whether this would work in those conditions. We put the big one on the bottom of the freezer bag and the 2 smaller ones at the sides
10 hours later we unpacked the freezer bag – the frozen food was still perfectly frozen, as were the freeze blocks – they had worked perfectly.
The boards are light and thin so they don’t add much weight to carrying them and very little space is needed. Excellent – very glad we bought them
These are slim freezer blocks that fit comfortably into most cool bags and boxes. As such, they can be inserted between bottles and tupperware boxes to give maximum and even cooling.
I use them in our Thermos 30l cool bag where they fit perfectly.
They take about 3 hours to freeze solid in a domestic freezer. They do swell a bit in the process – but that’s normal for blocks of this type.
They are relatively lightweight but seem to be very effective. In a well stocked cool bag, they easily last for 6+ hours – even in a high ambient temperature (but don’t leave the cool bag directly in the sun!).
Thus far, we have no complaints
These are brilliant when coupled with a cool bag or a cool back pack like I have got. I use the big flat one against the main flat area of the back pack and the smaller ones on the bottom and in one of the pockets. If I was to just use the big one it would be more than enough to keep everything cool for a few hours.
The other thing I really like to use these for is when I am working from home in the summer. Wrap them in a small towel and put the big one on the floor so I can put my feet on it and one of the smaller ones between my lower back and the chair. Not what they are used for but a suitable solution until I can afford an air conditioning unit!
They’re good, seemingly sturdy so far. With so many variables involved in keeping food cool – ambient temp, temp of toolbox prior to putting food in, how much is loaded in, how frequently you open it, etc etc it’s difficult to properly review a freeze board.
So really it’s down to how the size works in your box and accommodates your items. So the 800g one is massive… But then it can be used as a divider or as a shelf keeping stuff out of the wet… So despite its size I’m actually pretty happy with it.
These Thermos Freeze Boards are well proportioned and distribute their chilling ability over a much wider area than their block counterparts. One thing is obvious though, there is a trade-off in how long these boards remain cold compared to the block versions.
On the other hand, these boards remain cold for a reasonable period considering their lower mass and have the advantage of freeing up space plus aren’t as heavy as the block versions. Overall, I found these boards fine to keep some cheese cool in an insulated box from midday to later in the afternoon the next day in a warmish car.
