I’ve connected this box to a USB hub, which is connected to a keyboard, mouse, and USB headset. Hence, this box lets me easily flip between using 2 PCs on my desk. This box isn’t a real KVM, because it doesn’t switch video. That’s fine because I have 2 monitors with multiple inputs, so can just select input directly on the monitors.
For some reason the box only seems to work with the USB-A-to-A cables that come with it. Those cables work OK with cable adapters to get USB-C ends. But if I replace the whole cable with a good dedicated USB-C data cable, it doesn’t work. Still, the solution works so I’ll keep it.
I have a work laptop and a home desktop. I have enough HDMI ports to share the monitor but it’s impractical to double-up on the keyboard and mouse. I needed a swich.
This is a bi-directional USB switcher was just what I needed. Bi-directional means that you can either have two computers share a peripheral (which is what I’ve done) or have two peripherals run off one computer (for example, your PC connects to two printers). In my case the single peripheral was a powered USB hub that allowed me to connect keyboard, mouse and scanner.
Switching between devices is a single button-press away (and an LED light informs you which port is being used).
Overall this is a good (if slightly chunky) device, feels durable and is fast enough (5Gbps) to support connecting to a powered USB hub.
My main display unit has a single DisplayPort interface which is normally connected to my desktop computer. However, I sometimes need to connect it to my laptop, to take advantage of the larger screen size. This involved a lot of tedious unplugging and plugging of cables. The DisplayPort Bidirectional Switch 8K Splitter from the CMSTEDCD store allows me to leave my desktop and display permanently connected. I can then connect my laptop via the second DisplayPort interface on the switch, using a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter cable. I can then easily change between input source at the press of a button, which is a lot less hassle. There does not appear to be any drop off in the display performance. I do not use the desktop or laptop for gaming, so cannot comment on how this might be affected.
The CMSTEDCD DisplayPort Bidirectional Switch is well made and appears robust. Switching between outputs is achieved by a simple press of an easily accessible button and indicator lights show which output is in use. The unit is powered using a USB-A to USB-C cable (supplied)
Designed to be bi-directional, in addition being able to switch between two input sources to a single output, e.g a monitor, it can also be used to switch a single input source between two outputs e.g. a monitor and an AV projector.
At current price of 17.99, the CMSTEDCD DisplayPort Bidirectional Switch is competitively priced with comparable products.
Would recommend.
This neat little ” 3.0 , 2 1 / 1 2 , 5 – , 2 ” from “” arrives in a nice cardboard box which contains the following: –
1 x High-Speed KVM Switch
2 x USB 3.0 A-A Cables
–
This has a silver & red anodised aluminium casing & measures 2″ x 1″ x “/5.8 x 5 x 2, weighing in at 6.74/191.
This is a KVM Switch which stands for “Keyboard, Video (monitor), Mouse”, This allows a peripheral to be shared between two computers/laptops. It has a fairly good data rate at 5. Also handy if you have a shortness of USB slots on your computer/laptop due to damage or specification. Operation is simple & carried out by a single control button on the top of the device. On either side of this is a small LED indicator light which will tell you which one is functioning.
The USB 3.0 switch with great Compatibility Plug and play,driver-free for Windows 10/8/8.1/7/Vista/XP and Mac OS, Linux, and Chrome OS.
3.0 –
you also get two USB 3.0 A to A cables to make it easier to connect to your peripherals. They seem good quality & are a handy addition to the set as I don’t have many of them in the huge drawer of cables I’ve accrued over the years.
Its a very nicely made unit & the USB slots are nice & tight; so you get a good connection. Small enough to slip into a pocket or laptop bag if you need to use it on the go. Seems very robust & I imagine that it’ll last me a long time which means I find the 16.99 price tag more than acceptable.
I have an older PC for work like this reviews. In the past I used it for gaming too, but is now too weak.
I have a newer laptop which can still handle the game, but it has not my mouse and not my monitor. My solution: PC to monitor by DVI cable. Laptop to monitor by HDMI cable. That’s possible because I am either on the PC or laptop, never both at once. So the monitor does the switching actually alone if only one computer is on. In the worst case I switch input manually.
For the mouse I use now this switch. Mouse on in, and each computer on the out sockets.
That makes it easy to use the same mouse on the current active computer just by pressing the button.
I am using also a separate wired keyboard for the laptop, but that is no issue, I do not need my PC keyboard, I can shift that a bit away and the laptop keyboard is anyhow always connected with the laptop.
So, now I can use the game suitable mouse on the same place, no need for any difference, because in gaming mussel memory is some key to win. Btw, unbelievable how much easier the faster laptop makes aiming compared to my old PC in the same game on the same monitor …
The switch is simple and easy, just plug, works.
The cables are too short. It would be better to have at least 1.5m each. My mouse cable is also thinner and more flexible, so that would be appreciated. Thinner and longer still fits in the same box.
I got this little device because I like to alternate between my laptop and desktop and, since my monitor has only one HDMI port, it means I don’t have to plug and unplug every time I switch. A little niche maybe, but useful and effective.
I was looking for a USB splitter that would work by allowing one input switched to two outputs as this one is listed as being bidirectional it looked like it would work for my needs.
On opening, this is quite heavy for such a compact item which to vie shows how solidly built this is, the casing is made from metal which will also help to keep things cooler and each of the ports keeps a nice snug fit onto the cables. Switching from one port to the next is a simple press of the button at the front of this device and the switching is immediate.
I set this up with my record deck USB out plugged into the single port side of this unit and by using a USB3 extension cable I mounted this splitter at the front of my entertainment unit making it easy for me to plug in my laptop for converting my vinyl as needed. Being as this has two outputs when used this way I have the option of switching between different devices on demand.
As a test I also tried it the other way around, having two different keyboards plugged into one side and a laptop on the other, then I switched from one to the other which worked instantly, this way round could be great for gamers so they could have a standard keyboard for social media and general typing then a mechanical keyboard for gaming.
The dual directionality works without a problem and is fully plug and play so no drivers or settings are required, simply plug the devices in to this unit in a way that suits your needs and it’s ready to work.
Terrific build quality.

I find this switcher a game changer as now don’t have to keep changing wires when you want to use a different device. Switching between devices was never easy for me but this switching hub made my life easy.
The function of the switcher is easy and quick. Just plug and play no driver is needed.
One of the main and great features of this switcher is its data transfer rate which is as efficient as you might want.
Overall I am very happy with this portable efficiency in its job.

This comes a small box that has the switcher on top and cables beneath. The packaging looks very generic but gets the job done.
I tested the ports with an SSD and hybrid drive, both gave the same results of around 450MB for read and write, which is as expected. My other USB 3.0 devices perform the same on this PC.
Build quality seems good, ports are easy to use, not too tight, and seem quite sturdy
The switch and button are wellmade and do the job perfectly.
For the price I can’t really fault this product, particularly as you get good cables with it.
Five stars, recommended.
I have a Dex and laptop setup at home an I use the same keyboard for both devices. They keyboard and mouse have RF sand Bluetooth so when I need to switch between devices, I need to switch the tabs on both the mouse and keyboard. Doing this day in and day out becomes very annoying.
This USB switch has solved my issues and it works seemly between devices. It comes with the two USB cables you need to connect the source inputs and you are ready to work. This has made such a different and switching your keyboard and mouse to a different input at the push of one button is great.
Great quality item that works seamlessly.
This is a versatile and practical device that allows you to switch between two DisplayPort sources on a single display or split one DisplayPort signal into two displays.
The switcher box is very easy to set up and use, and the bi-directional, allows you to switch between two inputs or outputs with ease. The device supports high resolutions, up to 8K at 60Hz and 4K at 120Hz, which makes it perfect for gaming, video editing, or any other application where high-quality visuals are essential.
The build quality of the switcher box is good, with a sturdy metal casing that feels durable and long-lasting.
Overall, I am satisfied with this switcher. It is functional and ease of use, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a switcher box for their DisplayPort devices.
Well made and sturdy this device comprises a metal case, three USB-A ports and a push button which switches USB1 or USB2 ports into the common USB socket.
I use mine in the car to switch between two memory sticks carrying a music collection. This makes switching devices very easy and safe whilst on the move. The hardest part of the installation was sourcing a very short male to male USB-A cable to connect the device to my in-car entertainment.
My satnav is updated on a regular basis using a USB stick and this device allows me to connect it to the car along with a music library then switch between the two when convenient.
The video goes into much more detail, including an overview of design, dimensions and construction quality followed by my best efforts at testing it on camera.
However, in a nutshell:
Things I liked:
+ Worked flawlessly at 1440p / 75Hz.
+ Very little lag when switching over – switched quickly and smoothly.
+ Very decent construction – all metal body means durability should be good.
+ Extremely simple to use.
Things I didn’t like:
– Cables come out of opposite ends of the switch. Given that there is no remote, it means this switch has to be easily accessible wherever you want to use it but there will definitely be visible cables sticking out. If all three cables were routed out of the back, cable management would be tidier.
Do I recommend it?
Yes, it’s a well-made switch that does the job it’s asked to with no fuss. Just make sure you’re aware of the cabling situation before you order – if you’re planning on having it as part of a setup where you want to keep cables hidden away, this might cause you one or two headaches.
After many years, couldn’t get the wifi on my Epson printer to work. Needed to switch between two computers. This USB switch did the job nicely. Plus, it had an extension to the switch that is dandy, with an LED to show which way it is switched
This device has come in very handy to manage my home and office laptops. I have one computer table where I have to keep changing cables all the time to switch between home computer and office computer. This device has been my saviour from all the changing cables and moving devices. It is a very compact device to which I have connected my keyboard and printer. I can now easily switch between the two laptops without having to move anything. No more messy desks and a great space saver. Requires very low power and takes up very little space. Love the fact that this is USB 3.0 connectivity which means you get faster transfer speed.
The only issue with this item is it had more ports to add more devices/peripherals.
Hope you find this review helpful.
This USB 3.0 Switch Selector is super easy to use and is very well made, with a metal shell that looks great in red.
The red shell is really nice, it’s striking and easy to see with a little bit of light aimed at it, if it’s behind a desk or anything like that. It feels super well made in the hand too.
The one button press operation is very easy and it’s all pretty much plug and play. Super useful and very convenient, certainly recommend.
