This will allow you to hook up your modern controllers to your older PS1 PS2 or even use it as a dongle on the PC..

I tested this out and it worked quite well! easily actually.. as both a dongle on a PC or in my PS1 and PS2

I was able to pair all my controllers to it (one at a time of course) but worked as expected, one button pairing.

I would definitely recommend this if collect PS1 or PS2

I use this to connect an 8bitdo pro 2 controller to my PS1 and PS2. Works perfectly. The 8bitdo pro 2 feels so close to a PS1 controller as is that it feels authentic. This receiver works perfectly even as I swap it between my PS1 and PS2. I’ve never had an issue.

I use it with my PS4 gamepad. It works perfectly, easy to pair and the connection is very solid. Before that I had a third party generic wireless controller for the PS2 and it kept randomly disconnecting but this has been perfectly reliable so far.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you’re getting this device and you’re playing on a PS1or2 remember to update it first, when this thing initially was released they were a few issues and problems regarding this device, but thankfully those problems have been repaired.

Now personally speaking I would recommend using an SN30 pro2 with this device because it is the closest to a original dual shock PlayStation 2 controller that you can ever get, especially considering the app that enables you to program the controller for whatever you want.

Is it necessary for those who wanna play PS one or PS2 games? Yeah, if you want a decent control that doesn’t lag. It has rumble When you’re playing single player games, they require you to mash buttons repeatedly .

Naturally, this device can be paired to almost any controller, but I recommend an 8bitdo controller as they are very good. And also because they have a tech support system in case either device has an issue. Either way it’s your choice.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI did an exact lag test and the receiver adds 13.3ms of lag. That’s very low, but nowhere near “virtually lag-free”. The variance (trial with most lag minus trial with least lag) also went from a 11ms spread with an OEM Dualshock 2 to 19ms spread with a DS4 and the 8bitdo adapter. So keep it in mind it adds a little amount of lag/latency and adds a little more variance in the polling. Other than that it works 100% flawlessly, it’s very easy to pair, works perfectly, is responsive, and even supports rumble/vibration/force feedback. So basically, this is perfect for casual to mid/high level play, but speedrunners and those demanding perfect precision gameplay might prefer not using it. In practice, since 13.3ms is still fairly low, it’s hard to feel the additional lag, but it does worsen the responsiveness “vibe” a little.

Put against all the wireless controllers of the old days with their bulky receivers and cheap make this blows it out of the water. I can quickly sync my modern controllers to the PS2 and play without my long wired connect, or swapping AAs with a wireless controller of the day. Everything I want in a PS2 accessory, I may buy a few more as mine works great. I did have issues syncing but they were entirely user error and I did accidentally activate the green light (whoops) but had no trouble once I hit the proper controller sync combination (Whoops again).

Not only that they do an absolutely sweet switch controller the biggest surprise is the fact that this thing works straight off. I’ve tested it with both controllers and they worked

5 Sterne.

It works quite well. I don’t notice any input latency on PS1 or PS2. I am disappointed by the lack of analog support for the PS1, this adapter isn’t going to be my go to for a lot of games due to its absence. I hope they can update the firmware and add support.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have many 8Bitdo products and was hoping that since this is part of the “Retro” Receiver line that it would pair with ther DualShock 3 using the DualShock3 Pairing Tool. But, unfortunately, the DS3 is not supported.

Seems to work well with other supported controllers, but wanted this for DS3 on my PS1, so I’ll have to return.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersEdit 9/1/23: After bringing this to the attention of 8Bitdo, they send me a couple beta firmware versions and it’s now working with a memory card, tested with dual shock 4 on a 7501 unmodded console. This can now be 5 starts. D-pad emulation with the analog in non analog games seems great as well.

How does this happen?!? Tested with both a PS4 and PS5 controller. Controllers work great and as advertised, but no memory card is found while using the adapter. So you can’t save games while using this. Sorry, but for as well as this works w controllers, it’s 1 star for breaking the ability to save games. I’ll adjust my review if the fix it via firmware, but my guess is that it’s a power draw problem.

For anyone looking to pair any of the supported controllers to a PS1 or PS2, this adapter does it well. It’s possible that wider controller support might be added in the future via firmware updates, and if that does happen I’ll be sure to update this review to reflect that. There’s certain use cases where I would suggest exploring other available wireless options, like the Brook Wingman products for anyone wishing for Dualshock 3 compatibility in games that use pressure sensitive face buttons.

For my case, primarily for playing arcade to home ports of games, this meets my expectations very well. Most 8bitdo controllers I own will pair with ease and maintain an expected button layout, and the receiver will remember the recent controller it was paired with in scenarios where the console or controller has been powered off then back on. I don’t notice any significant input lag, which is not something I’m very sensitive to, and I don’t possess any means to accurately measure input lag.

Even the Gbros adapter pairs with this, which opened the door to using Wii classic controllers or something once considered heretical: the Gamecube controller. Made use of the Super Famicom classic controller, which just felt right in playing certain games like Castlevania Chronicles on PS1. I also have a Tatsunoko vs Capcom arcade stick by Madcatz, which I have also been able to get extra mileage from via the Gbros and this receiver.

The only requests I have, other than wider controller compatibility, is for this to be offered in more colors other than grey such as PS One white, or PS2 black. Unrelated to this product, but to other 8bitdo controllers, would be a request that someone out there can manufacture replacement buttons for those controllers but with Playstation face symbols (cross, circle, square, triangle), which would definitely motivate some of us to pick up another 8bitdo Pro controller if that happens.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe pairing instructions are not very straight forward until you look up the user manual online and read the instructions for your specific controller. I thought it was broken. Wouldn’t pair.

Otherwise it’s perfect. Works amazing. Wish they had this 20 years ago

    This is amazing

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our Users8bitdo generally makes great stuff and this is no exception. I love their controllers and I love this adapter. It’s as easy as can be. Plug it into your PS2, pair a controller, and play. The pairing was also very quick, which was nice. No troubleshooting to see why something won’t pair. The only downside i can think of to using something like this is that modern controllers don’t support the pressure sensitive buttons that were present on the PS2. For the vast majority of games this doesn’t matter, but some games, like metal gear solid 3, did utilize this feature. Not a knock on the product itself, just something to be aware of. Love the adapter!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThis is a fantastic little device from my use so far. I inserted the receiver into my old PS2 and paired a DualShock 4 to it. Everything worked great. I tested some gameplay with the fast-paced Mega Man X5 for PS1 to check out any latency/lag, and I didn’t notice anything bad performance-wise. I also tried a PS2 game, Silent Hill 2, and it just worked the way it should.

It’s a revelation to be able to play the older systems and games with a more modern, comfortable, and wireless PS4/PS5 controllers. Great job by 8Bitdo.
