About
The 12 year-old expression is a fine example of how the distinctively crisp, citrus character of Aberlour’s new distillate is deftly softened by double cask maturation
Introducing Aberlour 14, a new individual batch release that combines the makers careful craft with a deep understanding and respect for the natural maturation process
With the depth and complexity that comes from being matured for 16 years in a combination of American Oak casks and the finest Sherry butts, this expression’s warm and fruity notes are enriched by an engagingly spicy sweetness
The mature, deep, spicy one: a deeper Sherry influence adds more spiciness and a liquorice tang. Greater age adds body and develops the distinctive fruitiness to a rich raisin character
A’bunadh is a whisky hand-made from start to finish with each batch being created to ensure a rich and complex flavour of moist raisin, and homemade fruit cake
Casg Annamh is a distinctively rich Single Malt providing adventurous malt lovers with the ideal introduction to Sherry cask matured whiskies
I bought this for a gift and every other bottle of Aberlour I have bought comes in a bottle packaging detailing the product but not this one so whilst I gather the Aberlour is as good as ever it should be brought to a buyers attention that the Aberlour comes in bottle only and no gift containe
I’ve been a whisky drinker for over thirty years and one thing I’ve learned is to ignore the so called whisky experts and all the fancy marketing. Like most things in life, whisky is a very personal thing. The best whisky is the one/type you most enjoy. My favourite whisky style is a non peated sherry cask speyside and the Aberlour 12 year old for me is my perfect single malt whisky. It’s a reasonable price, has all the qualities of a whisky that I enjoy to drink any time of the day and year. Remember there are much more expensive whisky’s out there, but it doesn’t make them any better, just different.
The best tasting whisky you will find sub 80 , unfortunately I’ve knocked a star off because I bought the latest as a gift ( I’ve bought many ) and it no longer comes boxed , I was going to complain then noticed the sales picture no longer includes a box , disappointing fir a 30 whisky
Disclaimer: I’m not a whisky drinker. I wish I was, but I’m really not. I like a nice red wine, or a Rum. But this was bought as a gift and the reports are that it is nice so I can happily review it as such.
To me, a definite scent and taste of Chocolate, but also, to me…Whisky. So when I tried it myself I did appreciate there are various flavours, most of which I’ve forgotten by now, including the chocolate, but as the scent is ridiculously chocolatey, that’s the one I’m reporting on. Everyone commented on the chocolate notes as well. Especially when mixed with a single ice cube, which I may yet try. And then I can further report on the other flavours that I have otherwise forgotten…
Colour is amber (one photo is backlit so that is a lot lighter than the other)
Smoothness is definitely present. Not too harsh a swallow, even for a non whisky drinker.
If you’re a whisky connoisseur, maybe ignore my review in favour of others, but if you know someone who likes a good dark chocolate and also whisky, then just buy this to impress them
As the title suggests, you can’t go wrong with a good Speyside malt. It’s a beautiful part of the country bisected by the River Spey with the village of Aberlour being famous for its whisky and shortbread; you can’t get much more Scottish than this and if you’ve ever visited the area, you’ll know exactly what I mean!
This whisky is a firm favorite of a family who prefers Speyside malts above all others. Whilst I’m partial to the occasional peaty dram from the west or a more ‘seadweedy’ one from Caithness, I know that when I buy malt for other members of my family this one will be high on the list.
It’s smooth, medium-bodied,authentic and un-complex; the sweetness held in check by a slightly bitter though not overly intrusive char from the oak and sherry casks. It’s perfect for Sunday afternoons when served with a block of ice or as an after dinner tipple best served neat on a cold winters evening.
