Its a simple device, quite well constructed. Very simple to fit and release. I would advise coating it with a smear of petroleum jelly to protect it from the elements. Also a drop of 3in1 oil in the lock barrel keeps it smooth and free. The colour stands out a mild to hopefully deter the little darlings with naughty thoughts. For what it costs, good value.
Realisticly, this isn’t going to stop anyone that’s determined but it’s another deterrent to make it slightly more difficult to steal my trailer. It is a snug fit which is good and the build quality does feel robust so there’s that. I doubt it’s getting cut through with a set of bolt cutters easily, but could be taken off with an angle grinder. Everything within context though – it does what it’s meant to – blocks off the tow ball socket.
Good quality budget anti theft device. Solid, no frills construction that has enough adjustment to make it suitable for most domestic trailers. I can’t find anything better in this price range.
The trailer I have used this lock to secure is a little awkward as the handle is directly over the hitch socket. I had to loop the U bolt through the handle, lift the handle install the lock base while lining up the U bolt with the baseplate holes while lowering the handle as the U bolt is a bit short until the handle is lowered.. The U bolt is only just long enough to engage on this type of hitch.
This is a chunky lock that will certainly deter opportunist thieves. Obviously determined thieves would be able to circumvent pretty much any security device, what this clamp does though is make it much more difficult for them. They will take longer and I imagine have to make some noise to remove the lock. It can be installed very easily, simply insert the tow ball into the tow hitch and push the U clamp into place from the top. The key is not needed to put the clamp on as the U clamp simply ratchets in. I am using it on my trailer and it is perfect for the job.
Basic no-frills lock, easy to fit and lock/unlock.
The bright yellow paint job does help to indicate the hitch is locked up with just a glance. Hopefully this will deter any would-be thief, who ‘may’ then go on to an easier target.
I do prefer this keyed version to the combination-lock type, simply due to the speed you can get it unlocked without having to faff around with tiny dials (especially in the rain or at night).
