Very impressed with this camera. I have the Go Pro 12 but find I am reaching for the DJI instead. I love the magnetic mount, the Mimo app is just brilliant and is so fast and easy to use not like Go Pro. Front and back touch screen. Very easy to use.
Very good quality DJI Osmo Action 4 made from very good materials and will last a very long time if treated correctly.
This is my first DJI Action camera previously I have used GoPro’s. I have other DJI products and these are excellent devices and this is no exception DJI just keeping producing top quality products.
Very easy to setup you will need to install the mobile app then it is just a case of following the instructions this took me about twenty minutes but this included doing a firmware update.
If you have used any other DJI product you will know you can only use it for few times then you have to register for DJI Care Refresh (this is basically warranty) which is a charged product. For the DJI Osmo Action 4 you can use it five times then you have to buy DJI Care Refresh you have two options one year which costs 22 or two years 33 there is no way around this so this is something to bear in mind when you are looking at the overall cost but as I said this is the same for all there products and for me it is worth the money when you see the support but you will have to judge that for yourself.
I have been using this for almost two months now and I have had no issues it does get hot when using for extended periods of time BUT so far for me it has not turned itself off.
F2.8 sensor so it will let in plenty of light which is perfect if you are recording/taking photos at night, if it is a bright day you will have to watch the settings especially in manual mode BUT you will already know this or get ND filters this is a must have accessory.
The image and video quality is excellent I have no complaints about it.
My only minor grumble is I know it is an action camera but it would have been nice if it came with a bag or something you can keep it in BUT this is not a game changer for me personally.
Overall I am very happy with the DJI Osmo Action 4 and I would definitely recommend it.
I’m still getting grips with using this action camera for cycling and when I’m walking the dog to capture her antics. Upon receiving it it seems very small and fragile , this is my first action camera, but it comes with a protective frame . I’ve only used it my road bike a couple of times to see how it works , however I will be putting it on my mountain bike to capture rides across the moors and cycle tracks. Looking at other well known action cameras it seems the price is comparable and there are plenty of aftermarket accessories available. YouTube is thoroughly recommended to learn how to use the camera .
I’ve recently added the DJI Osmo Action 4 to my gear for capturing my outdoor adventures, and it has held up well. The 4K video quality is sharp, and the 1/1.3-inch sensor ensures markedly better low-light performance than my GoPro Hero 10. It managed to deliver vibrant and true-to-life colours, especially during sunrises and sunsets.
One drawback I’ve noticed is that the camera can overheat during extended stationary filming, particularly indoors, which can be a bit frustrating. However, for those who need a dependable action camera for dynamic outdoor activities, this is a reliable choice. It captures crisp footage, and the touchscreen controls make it easy to operate. It’s a solid performer, and despite a few minor quirks, it’s a valuable addition to my gear for capturing thrilling moments outdoors.
Love the picture quality on this camera and how easy it is to use. The battery life is good but my biggest gripe and what stopped me giving 5 stars, was when I was filming and the camera was static, and not moving about after 25 minutes it overheated and turned itself off
The awesome thing here is the image sensor the picture quality the action is impressed I use it to make natural videos and is amazing battery last long is easy to set it up by following instructions
This compact action camera comes from a UK trusted brand probably better known for their drones.
Like their drones this is very much a premium product and will have to live up to high customer expectations.
It comes in a very small, very well packed retail package and when you open it you will be rewarded with the same feeling you get when you open the latest very expensive mobile phone!
In the package there is not just the camera itself but everything you need to mount it to whatever you want to film from.
In my case my motorcycle but I could easily have used the contents to fit the camera to any kind of safety helmet if using a selfi stick is not your thing!
The camera is made to work in extreme environments so you can take it on the pistes, surfing or even free falling.
The camera is easy to start and stop even if it is in an awkward place to reach!
The images are stabilised by the camera itself to give the smoothest footage possible.
The colours are rich and vibrant and low level lighting is not a problem at all.
Every parameter can be user controlled to get the best out of this device, if you truly know what you are doing it is capable of stunning results.
Battery life is more than adequate for my needs!
I would say I am probably not in the target market for this camera but I am very glad to have been able to try it!
It is easily the best of its type I have tried!
Happy to help!
I’ve been using sports camera for recording my hockey games for almost 2 years and was facing difficulties to keep the full match record since I need to change the battery every 20-25 min but honestly after start to use DJI Action4 I can simply record full match plus the warming up at the same day by using only one battery, total duration 70 minutes.
It dose not get hot at all, is super easy to use. I can do my match recording by using only one battery.
Talking about resolution, I would really be honest to say this camera provide the best image/video resolution so far in the market.
I would also say no matter how crazy I run or jump it dose not effect the image stability at all, and also is so easy to connect to your mobile and even control the camera from some distance.
For the price it is very reasonable and affordable and of coz for whoever know the value of this small beast.
Over all I will give it 5 starts for everything, Weight, Value, Quality (Material) , Performance and Quality (Resolution), I will give 100% in all.
Review from my husband:
This is an amazing little camera, it’s really compact and has a fantastic picture, it’s truly incredible. The quality is impressive but as I’ve only just started using this, I haven’t really had the opportunity to fully exploit all its features. At the moment, I’m using it on my Harley Davidson so I record my trips out and it can also double as a dashcam (albeit a very expensive one ) but really the playback quality is fantastic and I love the cage it comes with and the magnetic mounting is also really good. It feels nice and secure which is a good job too as a HD shakes everything to bits!! The only drawback is it didn’t come with an SD card which bummed me out no end as I then had to go and buy one and wait a whole day till I could use it. I also recommend getting a high-capacity card especially if you’re using 4k but that’s my only gripe, apart from that it’s excellent and feels really robust too. 4/5 Really awesome adventure cam.
It is a top-tier choice for action photography and videography. It’s magnetic fastening at the bottom is highly practical, securely holding the adapter mounting base. Additionally, the two side positioning clips add extra stability.
This camera can capture 4K resolution at an impressive 120 fps, resulting in exceptionally clear videos and enabling outstanding slow-motion effects. It boasts a larger-than-average image sensor, enhancing its low-light performance, even in challenging lighting conditions. Color reproduction is outstanding, offering 10-bit color across all modes for precise color grading during post-production. The camera’s intuitive touchscreen controls are responsive and user-friendly. This action camera stands out as one of the best I’ve used to date.
At 379, this camera offers excellent value for money compared to other products in its category.
A great contender for the Go Pro 11, this camera really brings the heat, the images taken with this even in low light are amazing thanks to the 1/1.3 camera sensor and its wide view lens.
The camera itself is made out of the same high-quality tough materials we are used to, and now it is waterproofed to 18 m ..cool right?
The battery is roughly the same as previous models so it will hold you when filming in normal lighting at 4k 60 f/s for around 2 hours, however, the best thing about the battery is that it’s a fast-charging battery meaning that if you have the fast charger(which you can get separately or in the pack) it will charge this from 0 to 80% in about 20 minutes ..crazy right?
The display even at a few inches is very clear and the touch screen is very responsive, I like the fact that you can customize the noise reduction and sharpness of the image to your preferred setting it also has an automatic noise reduction setting in low light ..however, it will need to reduce the frame rate to 30 fps which is to be expected ..however, it will really make those low light videos pop up.
I would personally say that with this camera DJI has left Go Pro behind, also Given the choice I would advise going for the adventure combo which has the stick the fast charger and the extra battery …it’s worth it trust me
In this box you get Osmo Action 4 x 1, an Osmo Action Extreme Battery x 1, an Osmo Action Horizontal-Vertical Protective Frame x 1, an Osmo Action Quick-Release Adapter Mount x 1, an Osmo Action Curved Adhesive Base x 1, an Osmo Locking Screw x 1, Type-C to Type-C PD Cable x 1, an Osmo Action Lens Hood x 1 and an Osmo Action Anti-Slip Pad. Comes in quite a small box so was surprised all this fit in.
If you’re looking for an action camera then I highly recommend this one. It’s absolutely brilliant.
Connects to my phone easily and the quality is brilliant.
I’m delighted with this camera.
For context, I have the Hero 11 but these things always struggle with low light. I like all the DJI products I have so wanted to try the latest Osmo Action.
The standout here is the image sensor. It’s larger than most action cams. . In theory this means better low light performance. In practice this means……. slightly better low light performance. It’s still an action camera after all so it won’t rival a big mirrorless camera.
Colours are great in standard. I avoid the vivid modes as they a bit over saturated. Interestingly this shoots 10bit colour in any mode which is an advantage over competitors where that mode is limited. You also get log mode which isn’t super flat but still gives you a bit if room to colour grade in post production, if you’re in to that. I suspect 90% of people won’t, but I do and it’s a nice feature.
In photo mode the pictures are crisp and indeed maybe a bit too sharp. Dynamic range is pretty incredible.
The touch screen controls are good. Its responsive. I like the magnetic clip at the bottom. I feel like it’s going to come off, but it hasn’t….. yet.
I’m still getting used to this but one thing to note is that the ecosystem feels marginally less developed than the competition, although 70% of the accessories share the base mount which is the same. Other things however are different. For example I have all sorts of filters, and a cage for my hero 11. I also have things to make it float or grip in my mouth. Those things are less widely available for the DJI.
Overall I’m happy with it. The 10bit colour for me is a strong plus and I’m looking forward to the ecosystem evolving a little more to add to the versatility to the practical applications.
I use a silver Gopro and got this Osmo to run alongside it. Out of the box I was a little disappointed not to get a manual on paper but the pdf download was fine and I watched a couple of online videos too.
In typical Dji fashion an app was required and a Dji account. I already have an account due to flying drones so I downloaded and set up the app according to the instructions. A couple of steps are missed in the official Dji video about setting up and connecting but it’s pretty intuitive.
Once installed the connection to the camera could not be simpler. My Samsung S20 was soon showing a full screen camera view in a good resolution and with full, on screen, controls available this was a revelation. I have used my Gopro Silver dozens of times and the connection to phone has always been horribly glitch and sporadic by comparison. The greatest revelation was the difference in quality. Filmed alongside the Gopro in an indoor wedding ceremony the Osmo was world’s better in quality when compared.
The one problem I hit came when processing the video.
In the settings menu is a Video Compression heading offering H.264 or HEVC.
These are 2 different codecs and the HEVC codec is the default. The problem was my video processing software, Adobe premiere elements 23, could not handle it, nor apparently can Premiere Pro without making some changes in programme.
Now I have changed the setting to the ,universally accepted, H.264 codec, the problem is solved.
Overall, the versatility, intuitive use and high quality film make this camera worth every penny.
After using this camera for a few weeks I have noticed an overheating issue and on further research this is something which is reported on in the DJI website. The advice is to reduce the fps and resolution settings to overcome this but my camera was still overheating at 1080p 30 fps after about 30 minutes in a 25 centigrade temperature. When it overheats, it cuts out and stops fixing and is unavailable until it has cooled down. In other settings and at lower temperatures it may perform much better. I’ll test it to see in a couple of months after summer.
Having spent countless hours capturing moments outdoors, it’s clear that this camera holds its weight. From the first use, the clarity during low-light situations, such as evening hikes or early morning surfs, felt unparalleled. The colour rendition during those golden hours felt incredibly vivid, capturing moments just the way the eye sees them, if not better.
Switching between horizontal and vertical shots was smooth, especially when trying to capture varying perspectives on a rock climb or scenic overlook. What really stood out was the stability. Whether it was mounted on a bike navigating uneven terrains or hand-held during a brisk run, the footage remained steady and smooth.
Battery longevity is often a concern, but this camera endured even during my prolonged escapades, without the need to frequently recharge. While some might be wary of unknown brands, this one genuinely deserves attention. From a pure user standpoint, it provides functionality, durability, and quality that any outdoor enthusiast would appreciate.
This action camera feels well made in hand, it is robust and fit for purpose. It’s not too big meaning taking on your travels etc is easy and the long battery life means you aren’t held back charging it.
As a product it looks good, it is very giftable as is very well presented. In use I haven’t found it the most intuitive. There’s lots of QR codes to help you out but as an old fashioned gal I’d have liked a paper manual more substantial than what is provided. The quick start instructions are mainly visual and very basic.
I have made a video to showcase the camera this includes how to remove the protective frame (it goes on the same way) which to begin with was tricky but once you’ve got it you can pop it on and off no bother. You need to order a micro SD card and make sure it is a class 3 as this supports faster videos, you can pick one up on Amazon for less than a fiver. It has two touch screens which are sensitive and touch accurate. The alert noises are quite abrupt and the choices don’t stay on the screen for long when choosing photo, video etc. The camera quality so far has been good and meets my expectations.
I think this is a good action camera that could be more intuitive but does deliver what it promises so I am happy to recommend to others.
I got this camera for my partner who is an avid mountain biker but had recently had a tumble during which his Go-Pro had got broken, so he was eager to get out on the trails and try this out.
In the box you get the camera, a battery, a protective frame, lens cap, mounts so it can be kept securely in place and a USB C cable to charge it up.
It was simple enough to get it into the frame and mounted, my partner having it situated on top of his crash hat.
He’s used it a few times now, and he’s really impressed with it, I’ve watched the footage with him and it has a wide angle so it captures a really good view, the stabilisation is also very good, as they tend to go over quite rocky and uneven terrain at times this camera manages to keep it looking fairly smooth despite all the shakes and bumps they’re actually experiencing.
The contrast and colours are great, it records clear and crips footage even in low light conditions as dusk approaches.
The camera has touch screen on both the front and back, this is an excellent feature as it makes it easier to adjust the settings whichever way you have the camera. The menus are intuitive and even for a tech-phobe they’re fairly simple to navigate around.
Once you download the app you can also use this for remote shooting and easily share the footage with others which is great for sending your riding buddies footage.
It’s small, lightweight and the battery lasts a long time, although obviously this will depend on the settings you’re using, but it’s lasted for all of the rides so far without issues.
As a side note, it’s also waterproof, a feature we’ve not tried with this yet, but hope to do so soon.
It’s a great little camera, my partner is very happy with it.
I recently purchased this action camera for my weekend mountain biking excursions, and it has proven to be a dependable device. The 4K resolution provides clear and detailed footage, perfectly capturing the essence of my rides. The camera’s water-resistant design has reliably protected it against splashes and light rain, allowing for worry-free use in various weather conditions.
When I was considering upgrading my action cam, choosing between Hero 11 and Action 3 was tough. Turned out this camera was the best choice for me. It’s incredibly smooth and stable, even when riding on rough terrains. Overall, I am satisfied with this action camera and would recommend it to fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
This camera is absolutely fantastic, as good as the leading brands of action cameras. The quality of the camera is super clear and you can link it to you phone so you can use your phone as the screen. There are so many features that I haven’t got round to using yet but on first impressions for price and quality I would highly recommend.
The camera comes complete with charging cable, battery, locking screw, and some other useful accessories etc.. all seem great quality, easy to set up and operate. It is waterproof and perfectly pocket friendly sized.
This camera itself has impressive stabilization capabilities, ensuring smooth and steady footage. Whether you’re shooting while walking or in a moving vehicle, it can effectively minimize shakes and vibrations, resulting in professional-looking content.
The camera can also be controlled via a smartphone app, enabling remote shooting and immediate sharing of content. Results are crisp clear and screen size is big enough.
The battery life is decent, allowing for a reasonable amount of shooting time before needing to recharge. However, it is advisable to carry spare batteries for extended shooting sessions, as I’ve found the camera’s battery life may vary depending on the shooting mode and settings used.
What’s more, Its user-friendly interface and additional features further enhance the shooting experience. Whether you are a professional content creator or an enthusiast, the camera offers a great option for capturing immersive and engaging content and probably the best in the market.
A versatile and powerful device, would highly recommend.
I’ve used a couple of action cameras and Go-Pro’s in the past with often good but not always excellent results, so I was keen to try out this DJI Osmo Action 4 camera. The specifications promised a lot from the outset – namely that 4K resolution backed up with an incredible 120fps, the 1/1.3″ sensor which is a good size for something this compact, the f/2.8 lens for low light, the quoted battery life and so forth. Needless to say, I was not disappointed!
The picture quality it records is exceptional and looks epic when played back on my new 4K television (sorry had to brag about that). It gives a wide-angle but no unpleasant fish-eye effect and the video stabilisation works well. I did have to tweak the audio settings but that is more likely down to how I mounted the camera to try it out and the surface.
I think it is a brilliant idea to have a touch-screen on the front of the camera, as while it did take me a while to get used to it- once I did, it does make things easier in terms of changing settings without having to constantly rotate the camera around. You still have that rear screen as well and having both does help with practicality.
The battery life is really good and it does seem to last just as long as advertised. I say just as long because I kept checking the camera and playing around with the settings which likely shortened the recording time itself.
Osmo isn’t a brand that I would have normally opted for and purchased, nor is it a brand that I’ve seen many people use. That is a shame, as going by the quality and performance of this camera, it really is the best and gives amazing results in all conditions that I’ve thrown at it so far.
In the realm of action cameras, I’ve had the privilege of using the top three cameras available on the market. Until now, I’ve always leant towards the leading brand. However, after extensive use, I can assertively state that the Osmo Action 4 is unequivocally the best action camera I’ve ever had in my hands, and I’ll expand on that shortly.
Before diving into specifics, it’s worth noting that all major action camera manufacturers have done a phenomenal job. To those who currently own one of the latest cameras from these leading brands, my advice is simple: stick with it. Each of these cameras produces outstanding imagery that will satiate most enthusiasts and professionals alike.
What makes the Osmo Action 4 stand out for me are the following four reasons:
1. Battery Life: The stamina of the Osmo Action 4 is unparalleled. Its battery endurance considerably outpaces its closest competitors, ensuring you capture every moment without the constant dread of running out of power.
2. Wide-angle Recording: While wide angles are a staple in action cameras, the Osmo Action 4 boasts significantly less distortion. This enhancement ensures your footage remains true to the scene, offering a more accurate representation of your adventures.
3. Low Light Performance: Whether you’re diving into the ocean’s depths or venturing out during twilight, this camera delivers. The Osmo Action 4’s low light capabilities are exceptional, ensuring clarity even in the most challenging lighting conditions.
4. Reliability: While most cameras are robust, the Osmo Action 4 stands out for its consistency. I’ve experienced zero freezes or lock-ups, an issue I’ve encountered with its leading competitor.
In conclusion, while the world of action cameras offers a plethora of fantastic choices, the Osmo Action 4 shines brightest in my book. I could elaborate on its revolutionary front touch screen, or the ease with which one can navigate its intuitive menu, or even its superior quick release system — but ultimately, it was the four pivotal points mentioned above that cemented my preference for this camera. In a market saturated with excellence, the Osmo Action 4 sets a new gold standard.
This upgrade to the Action series from DJI is absolutely amazing, the bigger sensor gives much better low light footage and the new 10bit d-log is a joy to edit in post-production, they’ve included a new optical sensor in the letter O on the front that reads the colours around you to give you the most accurate colours possible, battery life is great at over 100 minutes and the magnetic mount system is the best in the business bar none, an added bonus is all your action 3 accessories and filters will work on the 4 too.
To sum it up in one word, Amazing. The action 4 has set a new benchmark in action cameras.
This is such a nifty powerful device that fits into the palm of my hand. I was surprised by how small it was, but its image quality are second to none. Even when out on a run the motion stability is remarkably smooth and doesn’t affect the picture resolution or sound quality. You have to download the DJI Mimo App, and then follow the necessary steps to access and edit photos or videos which is super simple and easy to use. The Osmo Action 4 has a magnetic mount that allows you to attach it to different accessories depending on the type of activity you’re doing. One of the features I liked most is the ability to control the camera’s settings from your mobile phone as this is particularly useful if wanting to stage a photo. This is a brilliant device that I would highly recommend.
If you have any other DJI kit, drones, Osmo etc you’ll know what to expect and this new version of the action cam sits well in their range. It integrates easily with the Mimo app and works superbly.
Picture quality is phenomenal and the “Rocksteady” Image stabilisation is great, even if you walk a bit wobbly like I do.
The magnetic base/holder that magnetically holds and clips on is a fantastic easy to add and remove feature of this action cam and makes swapping out bases a doddle.
Both front and rear touch screens are super tactile and react instantly, making it simple to change settings in use.
1080p ,2.7k/16:9, 2.7k4:3, 4k 16:9 an 4:3 selectable at the swish of a finger. FPS of 24,25,30,48,50 and 60 are also simple to select. from both screens which is a bonus.
The Mimo app works really nicely and connection is good with minimal lag on image from camera.
Looking forward to putting it through its paces more and trying out the modes and a few of the tutorials for shooting better footage with the action cam. Also not had a chance to fully test it out underwater (works well in a sink) so looking forward to getting some shots of the fish on holiday (me, not the fish) at the end of the month.
Love this camera, it’s pretty lightweight and will be carrying it round with me a lot as the dual screens are fantastic and it’s compatible with my Gopro accessories.
