This isn’t really a webcam. Though it can function as one, it’s open board design is primarily aimed at projects. So it could be used to monitor anything from a 3d printer to a telescope.
The camera comes in a cardboard box with a small guide and a lens cap. The camera is quite compact with mounting points for an enclosure and a USB cable attached via multi plug. Hooking the camera to my PC it is instantly recognised and the quality is excellent. The lens offers a good FOV with minimal distortion. Even in lower light it is still able to render an image.
A great little camera for a number of applications and projects.
Driverless install in Windows 7, 10 and 11 as tested here.
It’s basically a webcam on an exposed board … only if to be used as a webcam there are better options out there that come housed in a camera body already. This is more for a project that requires visual monitoring and you want to mount it as part of an entire system. Which is where I struggle to understand why it has a USB interface rather than a PCD pin output.
I’ve used it for monitoring a plasma welder remotely. It allows us to see the progression of larger jobs without having to be tied to a work station for 30 minutes at a time.
The image quality is rather good and in our application copes well with varying lighting conditions from the welding plate. As a camera the image is good. If you have a specific need where an open board camera with a USB interface is required it might be for you.
Works great as a webcam or discreet security camera or other project that needs a high quality camera in a very small board. Used with contacam getting great results no drivers required very happy with it.
