Although the DB25 and its smaller counterpart the DB9 connectors are not particularly popular these days, it was one of the go-to connector types back in the 80’s and 90’s and is therefore found on a lot of retro / older computers and their respective cabling solutions.
The age old problem of needing to connect two cables that both have male connectors together, or two cables that only have female connectors was a typical problem, which is why gender changers such as this product exists.
This adapter allows two incompatible cables to be mated together without any drama. Its simply two DB25 connectors, either in male or female types that are wired one-to-one on each pin (1->1, 2->2, 3->3. etc).
There were also some that were male to female, allowing you to add one to a commonly used cable and take the wear and tear off of of it and simplifying replacement when it was necessary, hence extending the cable or computer’s connector’s lifespan.
The adapters come with fixing posts to allow both connectors to be screwed in, but they also provide a slot to allow you to remove them if they are not required. The screws are not captive unlike some of their counterparts, but I guess conversely, this adds some flexibility of allowing them to be removed and re-inserted as required for the particular cabling problem.
So, if you are into older computers, you should have a couple of pairs of each type handy, both in DB25 and DB9 sizes as they will definitely be used.
If you are not into older computers though, its unlikely that you will encounter these adapters and will therefore not need them.
There is not a lot to say, these are well-made gender changers that I use on my retro computers. They work well and I have experienced no issues with signal loss.
