I recently replaced the original plate on my tripod with this metal Quick Release Plate with Clamp Set, which is arca swiss compatible. It feels incredibly sturdy, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. The swap was straightforward, and it does the job well. 5/5 stars.
I own quite a few Neewer products this is a brand I can trust.
This quick release plate comes simply packaged in a brown carton and on first impressions is it’s very heavy weight and well made.
You’re provided with what appears to be a small tool in the box for removal of the threaded adapters I’m not sure if this is supposed to be stored on the mount somewhere but it will very easily get lost.
There are three threaded holes on the bottom each with an adapter and there are three attachment points on the top plate with two different throat sizes. The top plate has rubber pads and there are two levels; one on the bottom plate and one on the side knob to aid leveling.
There are also two grub screws which prevent the top plate from sliding off the bottom plate completely if so desired.
At RRP of 21 quid this certainly isn’t cheap but it is extremely well made and we’ll last forever but ultimately it’s only a clamp.
Bought this to allow me to tie this on top of a Manfrotto 501 plate to let me use Arca Swiss connections across all – works very well for the price and now I can use my R5 across both gimbals and fluid heads without any change of plates… well worth doing!
Not really certain how to categorize this piece. Despite the QR Title, I wouldn’t necessarily describe this as a “quick release”. You slide the plate in and out of the base by unscrewing the knob, no spring-loaded mechanism here and you HAVE TO slide the plate completely out of the unit and then back in again. It is built like a tank, provides both (3/8″ & 1/4″) on both clamp and plate and I think really leans to larger/heavier rigs that need to be removed more quickly than unscrewing to/from a tripod base. I do love the two bubble levels which ensure your rig is parallel to the ground and the overall look and feel speak to a quality build. I think I would reserve the use of this for a heavier rig with a fair amount of attachments. In that scenario, it definitely slides in and out more quickly than attaching directly to the tripod.
When mounting a camera worth hundreds of on to a tripod, you have to feel safe in the knowledge that the clamp will hold your camera safe and secure. This quick release clamp does just that. It is sturdy and well manufactured. It does release your camera quickly for those times you need it to. It adjusts to fit most brands out there, which is great if you use multiple devices.
It has rubber feet that protect your devices from damage.
It also has its own spirit level, which is a bonus for me as I can’t hang pictures straight to save my life, let alone take a photo straight. At a reasonable price, this mount is the perfect solution to stop shakyphotography.
This is a quality piece of kit as always from NEEWER, the set arrived in a branded cardboard box protected with some bubble wrap and it came with a small slip of instructions and a tool for screwing and unscrewing the threaded inserts and attachment screws. The fit and finish of the mount is flawless, the slider has two screws that prevent it from sliding out fully and dropping your equipment onto the ground. The screw for controlling the clamping mechanism is quick to use and super smooth to operate, it is also sprung so it opens automatically as you loosen the clamping screw. A set of bubble levels are included in the clamp as well, one for vertical and another for horizontal alignment.
I’ve had no issues attaching this to any of my standard threaded tripods and other mounting gear so far. The clamp gives a robust and reliable connection that doesn’t concern me at all, even loaded with expensive cameras and lenses. It doesn’t even take up that much more space compared to a standard quick-release plate, but at the same time it offers a lot more flexibility and control compared to a plate that doesn’t have any sliding adjustment built in.
One of the features of this has an unintended benefit for me and that is the way that you can adjust the position of the camera by sliding it around within the clamp, this is intended to help you find the perfect centre of balance for your camera. It does do that job well, but I really love having the ability to slide the camera slightly forward and back within the clamp, as it allows me to do some basic focus stacking with lenses that have a shallow depth of field. My tripod’s previous clamping plate only allowed for a single position, so swapping over to this makes my setup that much more flexible.
My only minor complaint is that I wish the clamp had somewhere to store the threaded screws you aren’t using for your current camera or telescope, etc. For my DSLR I have to remove the two ” screws to be able to fit it onto the plate and those are just left loose and would be simple to lose, I think it’s a shame they’ve missed the opportunity to add some threaded holes that could be used as a storage location for those loose threaded screws.
Well-made, well priced and does the job without issues.
I’ve been using the Neewer quick release plate for coming up to two weeks now. I have it attached to the bottom of my Canon Legera G70, which isn’t the lightest or entirely well balanced device, and a cantilevered arm attached to my desk so that the camera is effectively being used like a webcam for when I do my pieces to camera for reviews and streaming.
The camera spends its life sitting there, but occasionally I want to take it somewhere for a quick clip of something and that’s where these quick-release mounts are so good. Rather than having to spin it around to remove it from the cantilevered arm’s mount (which I don’t have the room for), I just loosen the rotary dial on the side and slide the camera forward. It works perfectly well.
The mount is very well made, nice and chunky. It comes with several different sizes of mounting screws which should cover most applications. The whole thing feels very robust and I am more than confident about placing an expensive piece of equipment on it. A great bit of kit at a fair price.
I have several Neewer photography products already and have just picked up two new additions including this quick release clamp. I got this specifically to use with a desk mounted arm I already had and a extension bar I’ve just got.
For me, it simply screws on top of the arm and there’s a bubble level to ensure its level. Turning the small arm on it releases the slider enabling you to take it out. The end of the small arm also encompasses a bubble level.
It’s really simple and easy to use and the mechanism is well made. It’s certainly sturdy enough to hold the extension bar with a LED Light on the end of it.
I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative, and useful. Thanks for reading.
This is a very versatile, heavy duty Arca Swiss compatible quick release clamp and plate.
Pros:
+ Very solid construction
+ Designed so you can balance your gear on your mount:
1) Anti-slip block cutouts on clamp and screws on plate doesn’t slip off of partially tightened clamp (plate screws can be removed)
2) Choice of mounting locations and sizes (3/8 & 1/4) on both clamp and plate
+ Clamp has large knurled tightening knob that is easy to grab with gloves
+ Clamp is spring loaded so it automatically extends when opened
+ Clamp has bubble balance for both horizontal and vertical
+ Plate has rubber anti-scratch pads
+ Tested compatible with Arca Swiss system: my main DSLR fit on the clamp immediately and the anti-
Excellent quality.
This quick release plate is very well made and has all the fittings you need.
Made to a very high standard and the action is very smooth and nice that it has got two level bubbles on it.
Great product.
Having already converted my Velbon Delta tripod to accept gear with an Arca-Swiss foot using a 120mm version of this clamp, I bought one of these to convert my Velbon Videomate 638 tripod as well.
Because I don’t trust a single 1/4-20 bolt (or the plastic Velbon QR plate, for that matter) to take the combined weight of the Neewer QR clamp, my lens and my camera, I drilled through the existing QR plate and head where the extra 1/4-20 sockets are and bolted the clamp through the entire head using a couple of countersunk bolts with nuts underneath.
The spacing of the holes mean that the extra bolts miss all the important bits of the Velbon QR plate so in the unlikely event that I need to, I can easily remove the Neewer Arca-Swiss clamp.
NEEWER Quick Release Plate with Clamp Set, 90mm QR Plate with Clamp Adapter, 3/8″ 1/4″ Screw, Bubble Levels, 3/8″ to 1/4″ Thread Adapter, Compatible with Arca Swiss Tripod Monopod Ball Head, QR90.
A good solid piece of NEEWER Professional
quick Release Aluminum plate.
Good solid build quality
On the underside is 3 3/4 inch treads.
The slider plate has a 1/4 inch screw with two 3/8th screws.
On the side a good size tightening bolt .when tightened the plate holds in place very firmly aslo a spirit level on the mounting plate.
In the box is 1 mounting plate 1 slider plate 1 small metal tool and instructions manual.
The instruction manual gives all the required information on how to attach and use the NEEWER slider plate.
The manual is well laid out with clear illustrations and information.
Very good build quality NEEWER Professional produc
Another quality piece from Neewer at a decent price.
This is all metal (except the camera silicon pads) and feels solid – when the locking screw is tightening, the QR plate is held securely in place with no slipping.
Releasing the locking screw slightly allows the QR plate to easily slide up/down the clamp without any snagging – the 2 (detachable) safety pins stop the plate from sliding off the clamp.
A nice bonus is it comes with THREE x 3/8″ 1/4″ thread adapters (these always come in handy) – also included is a small flat metal screw tool to tighten/remove the 3/8″ 1/4″ thread adapters or tighten/loosen the camera screws in the QR plate.
Only minor point, the bubble in the 2 bubble meters is very small – meaning it’s quite difficult to use to accurately get flat – will get close – it’s not really a big issue as I will normally use my camera’s electronic level meter if I need a horizontal.
Overall, at 23.99 (June 2023), I would say that is good value – extremely well made and finished, while everything (threads, screws, adaptors and movement), run smoothly.
An easy and definite 5 imho.
From my testing on a few different tripods, how the plates are secured onto the ball head is a hex threaded screw from the top. So I had to take out the centre screw and use that to secure the plate. On the one I’ve received the thread it’s big enough or it’s getting snagged on them so I had to remove the centre thread and screw it directly back in. There’s another issue with the ones I’ve used seem to have the same positioning cut that is bigger than the gap on the bottom of this. I assume this may be down to NEEWER ball heads possibly being a bit different design wise? The gap is thinner than the ones on the ball heads I have to test with.
It doesn’t effect it too much, just means it can’t sit snuggly and as low as I’d like to to be when tightening the hex thread screw. It’s still secure but I wouldn’t be trusting of hanging this over the edge of anything on the off chance the hex thread screw comes loose during use. So just keep an eye on the tightness and always having a hex key on you to make sure it’s tight before doing anything a bit sketchy.
Onto the good points. The extra micro adjustments you can make with this as the plate is great. If your composition is slightly off you can just slide it along a little.
It does fit the Three Legged Thing L bracket Arca Swiss plate so I can only assume it will fit all Arca Swiss mounts that other people may have.
Not bad and not overly priced to be too much at 23.99. That extra little bit of money paid here is well worth the micro adjustments you can make side to side or front and back. There’s no markings though so not good for macro photography.
I can see this being useful for some people but only if you need the micro adjustments. Otherwise just stick with your plate you already have unless you need a temp upgrade or want to test out a wider quick release plate.
