I love the trend for small mechanical keyboards – the position you can have the keyboard in without a numpad etc is so much more ergonomic than the full size, and it saves space and materials too. I don’t really miss the lack of a numpad except when playing old roguelikes.

Royal Kludge seem to specialise in these cute little keyboards and I’ve been impressed with the ones I’ve tried so far. This model comes with red switches, which offer a good balance of tactility without being super loud like the clicky blue switches. The actuation point is ideal for gaming and the typing experience is also very nice, making these switches good all-rounders for most users.

The included keycaps have a pleasant sandblasted texture and seem durable. They’re not shine-through, so the lighting is mostly ornamental. It helps a little to see the keys in the dark, but not to the extent I’d like.

Connectivity is very good. You can connect multiple bluetooth devices, via cable, and via the included 2.4ghz receiver, which slots neatly into the back of the keyboard when not in use. The small LED screen in the corner shows the current connection and the battery life for the keyboard.

I should note that this is a US style windows layout, so you won’t see keycaps with pound and euro symbols, and you get a half-height enter key. Personally I don’t mind the layout. If you’re a mac user, though, it’s a little disappointing that they don’t include a CMD keycap to replace the windows key.

My only other gripe with the keyboard is that clicking the volume knob controls the connection, rather than muting. This is a weird design decision and won’t be what most users expect. Changing the connection isn’t a frequent action for most people I’d say, so it could’ve been hidden via a function key or even a switch at the side.

Overall, though, this is a great little keyboard that seems very well made and is highly customisable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great aside from one baffling design decisio

I like the cafe colour scheme, that is right up my alley and the OLED display is quite useful. It does have quite a few feature that you would not have at this price point a year ago, but a year is a long time in the mechanical keyboard space. And that’s the problem, things have moved on. Hotswap, tri-mode, south-facing LED, screen it covers all the bases. Adjustable feet, check. Magnetic dongle holder check. Everything you get in any good keyboard at that price.

It all should add up to a great keyboard, and yet as soon as I started typing on it I hated it. What makes the typing experience is the feel and the sound, on those scores subjectively I completely detest it. I will still give it 4 stars because the typing experience may not be for me but could be perfect for you

Mechanical keyboard with pre-lubed switches sounding amazing, althought the stablisers could be a little better, for the money it is a great product. Comes in 3 modes which can be easily switched between regarding connectivity and the battery life is nothing to worry abou

I pretty much like everything about this keyboard except for these caveats:

Screen: The top “screen” is just a layer of film and it scratches at the level of a microfiber cloth. It’s not a huge issue, but it could and probably will get worse with time.

Software/Customizability: Essentially nonexistent. You can get the software by requesting via email, but even then, it’s reportedly very buggy.

Shape: Some people report getting a warped spacebar. I personally didn’t and loved the original keycaps. When I modded the board, though, the spacebar rubbed (original sb) and I had to sand down the inside of the case slightly. It’s been a non-issue since, even with different spacebars.

So clearly, my board looks different. I loved the original keycaps but got these. I also modified the board for better sound, the original was very nice, but I added these features:
mole skin modded the pcb, applied stabilizer pads, purchased custom keycaps and put mole skin in the spacebar and some of the other larger keys.

At this point, I’m in love.

Great for price and really nice with some details

    ohne Modifikationen schon Hervorragend

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersHabe die Tastatur fr 99,99 gekauft (30 Coupon fr Prime Mitglieder wurde bereits abgezogen).

    Jeden Cent wert!

This keyboard is super compact and really responsive. The interface screen and volume knob are amazing additions making this the best option for a 75% keyboard. Interchangeable keycaps and switches too! I got pudding keycaps to really show off the amazing RGB capabilities of this keyboard. Would HIGHLY recommend!

The keyboard came to me in a smushed and broken box. I don’t know how they managed to do that but they did. Besides that the keyboard works just fine.

Perfect for gaming and programming, the battery’s life in my case it lasts a week in an 8–10-hour usage per day.
The light modes are easy to switch between.

The keyboard feels and sounds quite thocky. I got the one with the silver linear switch. It has a nice weight, and the Bluetooth modes and the knob work exactly as expected out of the box if you’re looking for a keyboard where you don’t want to mod it but still can if you ever want to and still sounds beautiful out of the box, then this is it.
To be picky, the keyboard doesn’t come with the Mac symbol keycap or the option replacement for the alt keycap. Not a deal breaker but I would greatly appreciate an option to at least buy it as a keyboard accessory.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFollowing world-famous YouTuber Switch&Click’s link I chose the fast silver version and one minor keycap swap (no luck finding a knob replacement yet), I am pretty stoked with this keyboard.
    The LEDs are bright.
The switches feel good to me.
    The magnetic dongle connects effortlessly.
The 75% size got me back much needed desk area; where my bong can not safely sit.
I only use it on windows PCs; I don’t care for/about Mac.
I still have a ways to go modding it, but it almost has that thocky thockyness I am after.
I hope the pictures help out.

    I blame Switch&Click

Great to use! I have modded it with lube and tape for anybody asking, it’s a pretty good size, and it’s a good quality keyboard, you can tell by it’s weight and performance mainly, pretty heavy and it won’t slip around!

  17. Anonymous says:

I would say that for its price, it works very well! i’ve been using it for a little under 5 months now, and it’s held up pretty good. The colors are nice, and I enjoy the rgb options for the LEDs under the board, and as someone who doesn’t know how to build or determine nice boards, I would say it sounds good.

My only issues with it are that sometimes i have to unplug and replug in the keyboard for it to register properly, doens’t take much to fix though. Another is that there are times where the keys “stick” a little bit, or like if you press a key once, it’ll repeat on for a while. It is fairly rare that it happens though. Overall, it is good for the price!

The item arrived really quick!! I’m in love with the keycaps color and their clacky sound (red switch)!! The keyboard in itself is kinda heavy compared to normal keyboards tho. I really like that it has a lot of light display options for the RGB backlights.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's perfect!!! really happy purchase~

This keyboard is awesome the switches (red I got) are really smooth and have a really good feel to them not overly heavy and not too light and a good actuation height. The keycaps are of high quality and look really cool aswell and the keyboard itself sounds really nice not too loud but a nice and satisfying sound when you bottom and top out on the key strokes. The wirless is really good aswell and the little screen and Knob features on this keyboard make it a killer keyboard for a really good price I cannot recommend this keyboard enough! The only gripe I have with this keyboard is the space bar is just much louder than the rest of the keyboard and sounds a tad hollow but thats easy enough to fix on your own and it really isn’t that bad to be entirely honest.

I recently had the pleasure of using the this Mechanical Keyboard, and I must say, it has truly redefined my typing experience. From the moment I laid my fingers on its keys, I was captivated by the comfortable and smooth tactile sensations it offered. The keyboard’s well-crafted mechanical switches provided just the right amount of resistance, making each keystroke a satisfying and effortless endeavor.

One standout feature of the XYZ Premium Mechanical Keyboard is its attention to detail in design. The sleek and minimalist aesthetic not only adds a touch of elegance to my workspace, but it also complements various setups, whether professional or gaming-oriented. The matte-finished keycaps not only feel great to the touch but also resist smudges and fingerprints, maintaining that pristine look even after extended use.

The built-in clear screen is a genius addition that sets this keyboard apart. It conveniently displays essential information such as battery life and the current model, ensuring that you’re always in the loop without interrupting your workflow. This thoughtful feature eliminates the need for guesswork or additional software to track these crucial details.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFirst of all, I love the build of this keyboard, it’s not perfect from the original theme being blue but I was able to work with it.
Second, this keyboard was a steal, I was able to get it for 80 bucks on Prime Day and so far, it’s the best keyboard I’ve ever used.

I’ve only used this keyboard for almost a week now and I already love it, the 3 Bluetooth modes makes it easy for me to connect to my other devices pretty easily.
But it does have some cons.

First, there isn’t an Enter key that isn’t a different color besides yellow, I thankfully had a different one but it’s something to keep in mind.
Second, there isn’t Home and End keys. Most people probably don’t use them anyway but I have a macro that I use that requires them and it would be nice if you were able to program them with the PGUP or PGDN keys.
Third, the software is meh. I had to go on reddit to be able to find it and when I did, I had a little trouble with the lighting and overall a bit weird.
Fourth, (not needed but fine) there’s no instant mute key, I know you can press Func+F10 to instant mute but it would be nice to have a key that’s there just for the instant mute. I’m use to having it on my old keyboard but it’s fine.
And lastly, the wireless/Bluetooth issue. This isn’t an actual issue but more of I have too many wireless products such as my headset, mouse, and now keyboard. It’s not bad, but I sometimes notice studder on my wireless mouse. Having less than 3 wireless/Bluetooth products should fix this issue though. Or just go wired mode.

Overall, I love the keyboard and would recommend to a friend, if you see it for 80 bucks, then it’s worth it.

    Best starter keyboard

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSounds great, looks great, types great.
Battery life appears to be excellent and it instantly registers as many keys as ive tried to press (a;sglfjhkd).

For $100 bucks I think this is a great entry point into this gasket/foam keyboard class. I’d been shopping for pricier options like the zoom75 and sense75; very glad I tried this instead.

    Two quirks:
    1. With the legs retracted, mine doesn’t sit quite flat. It rocks on a diagonal between the top right and bottom left by about half a millimeter. I tried gently twisting the board in the opposite direction, which helps for a minute but it doesn’t stay. I always use the legs so I don’t mind, but that’s the way it is.

    2. My Windows key didn’t work out of the box. The physical key is fine- I used their remapping software and it worked fine as other keys. I tried a factory reset which did nothing. Then I re-flashed the firmware (although the software told me I was already on the latest version), and now it is totally fine. Tested before and after on USB and bluetooth with both mac and pc.

Easy 5 stars if the frame was straight and it didn’t ship bugged.

Golden Review Award: 66 From Our UsersFor context, I’m not an RK fangirl, and have had honestly pretty bad experiences with their keyboards in the past. I bought this keyboard a couple of weeks ago closer to when it came out. I mostly bought this keyboard to replace an aging Keychron K2, and decided to take a plunge with this one because I liked the keycaps and design of this keyboard, and I was a specifically looking for a keyboard that had side printed legends that matched the firmware. I’ve been around the custom keyboard block and I’m sick of having to memorize key combos for system functions, changing rgb, etc. Guess I’m getting older lmao.

I bought the version with the brown switches. Upon inspection these appear to be Outemu browns with the RK branding on them. They were surprisingly okay. The tactility was a bit better than gateron browns. They’re perfectly fine, but the appeal of hotswap is being able to change the switches. I changed mine to Akko Lavender switches, which went completely fine. No issues in the keycap or switch pulling process

I can’t confirm the keycap material anywhere, but if I had to guess, they’re a high quality ABS instead of PBT. Double shot, as can be seen from the pictures. The casting isn’t the best when looked at from the bottom, but I’ll never see it and it doesn’t affect the weighting of the keys. The color scheme is gorgeous to me. And there’s still a good thock sound because I know us keyboard nerds care about that.

Stabilizers are pretty good. They’re not screw in as far as I can tell. They’re very solid though and there’s no rattle.

The switch mounting plate was what surprised me the most. It appears to be some kind of polycarbonate with slats cut into it. It definitely adds to a slightly softer typing feel and better sound. I used to think this kind of mounting plate was a bit silly, but I’m quite pleased with this one.

The RGB gets pretty bright. Pattern variety and color variety is about average, but the lighting quality itself is good. I didn’t try any of the software that RK makes for their keyboard with this. I honestly loathe installing software for peripherals unless there’s macros I need, and the RK software in the past had given me some issues with the RK61 I had.

If you care about the lift up feet, they’re really solid on this keyboard. Borderline actually hard to flip in and out. I’m expecting those to stay solid for a long time.

The knob and OLED screen. Oh boy these are actually really good. To turn the keyboard on and off, just hold the knob down. Rotate the knob to change the volume on whatever device it’s connected to. Press the knob to open a list of connection options (wired, 2.4ghz, BT). To re-pair bluetooth just hold the knob down when the cursor is over one of the BT options. If you change between mac and windows mode, the keyboard will remember which OS mode it was in for each connection option, which is excellent for switching between a Windows PC, a work Mac, and my iPad. Btw, mac mode does swap the function and media keys from windows mode, so you have to use fn to access the function keys. This is pretty normal mac behavior on other keyboards (nuphy, keychron, etc). Just something to be aware about. The OLED display is informative and shows connection, OS mode, battery life.

Battery life is pretty good. Got about a week to ten days of wireless with RGB at full brightness on the waterfall pattern. I’d imagine I could get a month with the RGB off.

Gaming latency is fine. Feels similar to an RK61 on all three connection modes. The wired mode is fast enough for FPS games, but if you’re really sweaty I’d start looking into keyboards designed specifically for low latency gaming. The wireless 2.4ghz is fast enough for casual games, but not competitive FPS games at all. BT is too slow for gaming, as expected.

Overall, I’d recommend this keyboard. I got it at the launch discount with a coupon, which was an excellent price. At its current MSRP, I’d say it’s pretty good. There’s a lot of quality of life features and things keyboard nerds care about. There’s a lot of features on here that you’d really only find on more expensive boards and custom boards. The OLED screen and knob are pretty unique and the biggest selling point for this board imo, but the overall design and color is what’s keeping me around. Also it thocks.

For the price, this one's a winne
