I didn’t want to leave a review until I’d actually used the banetton a few times and could tell how it worked for me. Having now produced a few loaves of sourdough, I can say that although my bread making skills are variable, the bowl always leaves the bread looking very professional. As long as you dust the banetton and the loaf well with a flour semolina mix then it comes away cleanly after the second prove to give a really professional finish to your loaf. It’s proved to be really easy to clean too – hot water and a cloth gets all the flour out and it’s ready to use again. Very happy indeed!
adds a nice touch to my sourdough recipe.
The hidden value in this kit is you can prove 2 loaves at once with the basket and then use the linen liner in a sieve (or similar).
The Basket leaves a nice circle pattern on the bread too 🙂
The lame is pretty lame though – I just use scissors!
I haven’t used the basket without the cloth yet but with the cloth it’s great, my dough didn’t stick, I haven’t used the scraper yet but it’s pretty good and the bread scoring knife is great and cuts so easily!
Nice product. I’m not convinced about using it instead of a bowl and bread tin yet but I will persevere. I like the imprint it leaves on the bread. Cleaning is a bit more of a chore but time will tell.
A great proofing bowl, the spiral design is light and gives bread a lovely pattern.
The scraper is solid but the attached scalpel is a little less sharp than I’d like.
Still, pretty essential for making sourdough.
If you’re just starting out with the bread making thing, this is ideal. The banneton is quite sturdy and seems well put together. You also get the fabric cover, a little 7g pack of yeast and the lame to score the top of the dough. I use a new paint brush to get rid of the flour after use and it seems to be easy enough to clean too.
The basket is a simple yet effective item to have in the kitchen if you making a fair bit of bread.
It does the proving amazing and leaves a lovely circular pattern on your bread.
The tools it comes with are extremely handy to have to help cut the bread down or get out the basket of needing to.
Definitely generously flour your basket and loaf before popping in. This is to avoid it sticking to the basket. Once down, you can gently tap the basket and the flour falls out to be used again!
This is a new adventure for me, making this type of bread! A bit of a learning curve but this certainly makes it easy . It is also a good size loaf.
This is a great little set. I needed a second bowl and the knife was a bonus. The dough scraper isn’t great also the cap doesn’t stay on the blade which is dangerous. Other than that I’d buy again if needed.
Bit concerned after some negative reviews re sturdinees of basket. The one I received was very sturdy, perfectly formed. The cutter is basic but comes in a plastic sleeve so only a numpty would cut themselves on it [see negative review :-)]. Fine if you want to try having a go at sourdough baking. For a simple recipe google Ben Starr on YouTube – good starting point.
Basket does the job, nothing to shout about really. The razor got rusty after using and lightly wiping it with a wet cloth about 3 times. It wasn’t the razor the main reason I bought the basket obviously but disappointing it is of such low quality. It would have been better to not include it at all if it’s gonna be the badly made.
Just what you need to get started as an amateur baker. Yes there is a bit of a factory smell to the basket at first, but the instructions state to give it a wash and then dry it in the sun/low oven so after I did that it did not smell at all. Once it is dusted with rice flour it works a real treat, I leave it in the warm kitchen on the counter to prove and the dough gets a lovely stripey look from the basket and the flour. I can then dip it straight onto the baking tray after the second prove. Looks amazing when done. The razor blade is not super sharp, but it works.
The basket is surprisingly easy to clean – knock out as much dry flour as possible first, then clean the remainder using a washing up brush and water. Thorough rinse then leave to dry.
I haven’t made much use of the hessian cover / bag, and the “knife” looks a bit dangerous to use. Scraper is OK but not very robust.
Overall I’m happy with the set – gives an authentic look to my loaves
