I have used this on all manner of things in the garden. Ivy, grass, tree roots and it does the trick. I usually dilute one cap in a 1.5L pump spray bottle and lash it on. I must stress this is not fast acting, there are other more expensive ways and brands like Gallup etc. but I prefer this one now for cost of coverage. It can take up to a month to see results sometimes but it does work, lash it on and give it plenty of time, that’s the key.
I’ve been using Roundup for years and it always works very well, not just on stumps but also tough weeds on driveways and paths. First, a word or two of caution:
1. Don’t use it on a windy day. Works best when the sun is shining when the air is dry.
2. Always wear a face mask and some protective gloves and footwear
3. Keep away from children, pets and fish tanks/ponds
4. To kill weeds where there are other plants nearby. Cover the other plants as much as you can and if need be paint the weed killer on the foliage of the weeds.
5. If you have chopped a bush or small tree/shrub. Paint the weedkiller on and then cover with a clear plastic bag held on by tape or an elastic band in case it rains. It will take longer to wipe out a stump but it will kill the deeply buried roots.
6. The concentrate form is best in terms of value for money
7. Try to avoid leaving it in a sprayer for a long period of time. It tends to clog up the misting nozzle.
Good Luck – and if you can’t get any round up use a high pressure steam jet or a kettle of hot water.
🙂
As this is quite strong it is great for stubborn weeds on paths and in the garden. Don’t get on lawns though. Diluted to the right strength works great. Pleased. No more unsightly weeds. I use a spray bottle with gun and works a treat.
I buy this to take care of the Mares Tail which is rife around here, I put on neat at the base of the weed and it’s dead! Use diluted else where. Very good stuff but is becoming very expensivemuch like everything.
Cut a hedge down that was very well established, probably been there 50 years or more, didn’t want it growing back , so drilled holes on the stumps, used two cans of this stuff, poured neet down the holes, about 3 weeks ago. So far nothing has grown back and there are signs that the stumps are decaying .
Would strongly recommend, I thought nothing would work.
I’ve been using this for years and generally speaking it’s a really good product. I got rid of ground Elder using this product and a few other methods, but this year, it just doesn’t seem as effective as other years.
I have the odd mares tail in between my flower boarders. I mixed this a per instruction wore protective clothing took all safety precautions and painted each mares tail couldn’t spray or Id kill my other plants. I covered with a plant pot to stop cross contamination and repeated as appropriate. Boom their dead and my plants are thriving very very happy. Stopped an infestation.
It takes a while, about 2 weeks, to work, and I’ve needed to do multiple applications on a large area of Ivy where it seems to be taking a long time but is finally working.
Bought this for some stumps including a butterfly bush, hedge plant and inaccessible bramble. All plants were treated with the pipette after cutting them back and drilling holes into them, or splitting them open with a pair of plyers. Treated at the beginning of spring and now several months on and no signs of growth. Impressed. Going to try diluting it now and using as a more general spray weed killer.
Happy to report good results with this. Bought in Spring 23 (as, per reviews, it should be applied as leaves start to show). We have some scrambling knotweed, I think from 3 separate sources, and I’ve been rummaging about in the hedge the past 4 weekends as the shoots have emerged off the long woody stems. Literally a few drops onto as many leaves as possible in good weather, repeating each weekend. Painstakingly tedious but I’m so determined to kill these awful things. Early finish from work & I’m in the undergrowth on my missionDefinite results already. I bought 2 bottles but still a lot left in the first bottle. One review mentions using child paintbrush to brush it on leaves, excellent idea , better than the dropper I think & I may try that at the weekend now. Buy it, good product.
I had mares tail (horse tail) weeds in my garden. Almost Impossible to get rid of because they grow from a tuber underground. If you pull one out another dozen grow. Nightmare. After using many products, I chose Roundup tree stump killer. This kills the tuber/root. First I used my finger nail to scrape off some of the waxy coat on the leaves and stem, because the wax coat prevents the poison getting through. (When there were a lot of them I gently trampled on them but not sure that method was as good). Next, I pressed my finger into the soil next to the weed making a hole and poured the Roundup down the hole or used the plastic thing that comes with the Roundup. Next, I poured the weed killer onto the weed. It shrivelled up within a day or two.
Occasionally, I see the odd mares tail appear but I repeat the poison immediately and so far, very few are appearing. It’s taken years to get rid of them and I’m finally on top of things and have managed to plant some nice shrubs this year. The roundup hasn’t killed my plants when I localise the poison around the mares tail making sure not to get any too close to my plants. I’ve written a long description because I would have appreciated this info a few years back.
