I haven’t done a head to head comparison between this and a Fuji OEM battery (charge time, how long it holds a charge, etc), but I don’t notice any difference in real world use. Works just fine, with the added bonus of USB-C charging which is amazing when traveling! Can quickly charge a battery anywhere.
Replacement battery for Fuji XT5 works as good as if not better than oem. Love the versatility in charging options, battery pack, wall usb plug in or in camera charging. Great battery for camera at a reasonable price.
When my TX5 arrived I ordered a spare battery and the charger from Fujifilm and winced at the extortionate price. This Smallrig battery works perfectly well and capacity seems indistinguishable from the Fuji version. The USB charging is brilliant and saves me lugging the Fuji charger with me when I’m on holiday. Highly recommended.
It’s a pleasure to review this SmallRig rechargeable camera battery because it is a quality product.
The main item, of course, is the battery, 200mAh more than the Fuji battery for the Fuji X-T4 and X-T55 cameras. There is a USB-C charging connector on one end of the battery and a connector on the other end for matching the connector in the camera. The included cover protects this connector.
The high-quality cable comes with a cable strap that sticks to itself and keeps the cable nicely wrapped when it is not being used. The cable has a USB-A connector on the power source end and a USB-C connector on the other end that gets plugged into the battery. The included User Manual is well-written and is easy to understand. The nice box, with interior padding, has informative labels that show the specs for the battery. The product is better than the label because the cable, cable strap, and User Manual are not mentioned on the outside labels on the box.
Some items I buy are all show with little quality, but this product is all quality and little show on the outside of the box. I highly recommend this rechargeable battery and associated parts if you have a Fuji X-T4 or X-T5 camera. Nicely done, SmallRig.
I use my xt4 for 4k footage at 59.9. I run through batteries a lot. this battery has held up like the original that came with the xt4. I am glad it is also a different color because I can’t get mixed up with the others. I like that I can also just use a wire to charge it without using the block that the others need. I actually thought I would have been able to have it charge in the camera while using it. but the door would not close. i have a lot of small rig things and this was definitely a good choice.
Design
Including the charging port within the battery housing is a smart idea and I wish more battery makers would do this.
Packaging
SmallRig did its usual good packaging job. See attached photo. Note that the battery is supplied with a snug-fitting plastic base plate. This is not the case with all third party batteries I have tried in the past.
Build quality, first impression
No obvious problems or defects seen. No complaints.
Charging — first time
The battery arrived a bit less than 50% charged, according to my charger (Nitecore’s small dual battery USB-C charger with LCD display). I began charging via direct cable attachment to a fairly high output charging block plugged into an AC outlet.
The battery’s green LED lit up in about 1 hour. The Nitecore charger disagreed, indicating only about 3/4 charge. It’s hard to know which is correct. I completed the charging within the Nitecore, which indicated full charge after about another 15 minutes.
The battery did not become appreciably warm during charging via cable alone.
Battery life
Perhaps my Fujifilm X-T4 has some kind of current leak. In any case I have never had good battery life with this camera. The SmallRig battery did not retain charge within the camera as long as I was hoping. (It’s possible that it and the camera aren’t in perfect agreement about the battery level.)
Conclusion
It certainly works, it’s well made, and the charging port being built in is handy. I would not call it superior to the Fujifilm branded batteries, but at least it’s available at a more reasonable price. I think I will stick to the more expensive batteries in the future as they seem to hold charge within the camera better.
So, not a bad product—but not a superior one.
This is easily the best third party battery I have owned for a camera. In some ways, it is better than the OEM battery. I have always purchased third party batteries for my backup batteries. I have never had a bad experience and they are just so much less expensive than OEM. That said, the OEM battery is still the best option for battery life and longevity. I just don’t believe the higher price is worth it. The Smallrig battery is in the middle price range and is probably the best option for most owners. I have found the battery life to be as good, if not better than Fujifilm’s battery. It is rated higher, but that doesn’t always mean it will last longer well in this case, it does. The USB-C port on the battery is a convenience. I have charged my batteries both in the camera and in a third party charger that charges 2 at a time. The USB-C will just add another option to that list. BTW, this battery charges nice in camera and in my charging dock no issues. I am really happy with this battery and will probably stick with Smallrig batteries in the future. I already use their camera cages and other accessories. So happy to buy from a trusted brand.
This SMALLRIG NP-W235 2400mAh battery for Fujifilm X-T5 / X-T4 / GFX 100S works excellent I must admit, and it is very easy to use battery replacement.
It has a USB type C charging port, making it easier to charge your camera battery on the go.
I really like that with high current charging (5V 2.2A), you can have a full battery in 2.5 hours.
It comes with a charging indicator to clearly show the charging progress.
It’s also compatible with the original charger for Fujifilm, and SmallRig NP-W235 battery and charger sets.
Great quality battery replacement at all, for really reasonable price.
I can easily recommend it to anyone.
This is a great idea, building the recharging component directly inside the battery housing so that you no longer have to carry a separate battery charger. All you do is connect the USB C cable to a power source and connect the other end to the battery itself (which has a USB C port built into the body). The supplied cable is short, but adequate. The dimensions and sizing of the battery are exactly the same as the original OEM battery, and the battery slides in and out and clicks into place in the camera just like the original. A nice touch is that it comes with a protective cap for when it is not in use (even the original Fuji batteries do not!). No concerns about battery life compared to the OEM. About half the price of the original battery. And, as pointed out by another reviewer, you can also charge the battery with a traditional charger if desired. Feels like a high quality build. Highly recommended.
This battery is like other third party batteries for the Fujifilm X series cameras, but with a nice extra feature. That feature is the USB-C port on the battery to allow charging it from a USB charger.
You can also charge the battery in the standard way by putting it into a charger.
I like the USB-C charger approach because it provides a second way of charging the battery. When I travel, I take a battery charger with me. But if something happened and I lost the charger, or it failed, I’d be in a heck of a mess because I’d quickly run out of battery power for my camera. With the USB-C charging port, I can still charge the batteries.
The battery claims a slightly greater capacity than the original Fujifilm battery – 2400mAh compared to 2200 mAh – and works in my X-H2 camera fine.
Recommended to anyone traveling with a Fujifilm camera.
I have used the SmallRig batteries with built-in charging port for my Sony cameras for several months now so when the chance to order an NP-W235 battery suitable for my Fuji XT-4 came up I immediately jumped on it.
SmallRig are renowned for making affordable and top quality batteries and this NP-W235 is no different. It not only looks well made but also feels well made. Some third party batteries are sized slightly different to the genuine batteries which obviously affects the fit. Some third batteries are slightly bigger resulting in a tight fit, if indeed it fits at all in the camera, and others a slightly smaller resulting in a loose fit which can wreak havoc with the stability of the connection.
This SmallRig NP-W235 battery seems to be the identical size to my Fuji branded NP-W235 battery which means the fit is perfect. The SmallRig NP-W235 battery is tight enough to ensure a good connection but not so tight it is difficult to get it in, and out, of my camera.
The unique feature of this SmallRig battery is the inbuilt USBC charging port and this is what makes this battery so good. This battery is charged using a USBC cable which means I can do away with the charger which is great for travelling.
I was initially concerned that charging the SmallRig NP-W235 battery would take longer because it doesn’t use the charger however this is not the case, which is good. I have tried using fast charging cables to charge the SmallRig NP-W235 battery but they didn’t have any effect on the charging time.
The SmallRig NP-W235 battery doesn’t seem to last as long as my Fuji NP-W235 battery. There isn’t much in it but my Fuji battery definitely lasts a bit longer. I don’t find this a problem and it is not a deal breaker for me.
I think the blue colour is a bit out there and I am not a fan and I would prefer it in black. That said, since it is blue it is easy to identify when in the bag with my other NP-W235 batteries.
At just under 40 (at the time of review) this SmallRig NP-W235battery is considerably cheaper, about two thirds cheaper, than Fuji’s own NP-W235. Sure, this SmallRig variant doesn’t last quite as long but it doesn’t last two thirds as long, which makes it a viable alternative.
Overall the SmallRig NP-W235 battery is an excellent bit of kit and one I highly recommend. Whilst it doesn’t last as long as my Fuji NP-W235 batteries the other positives far outweigh this and this SmallRig battery has since become my go to when I plan to shoot with the XT-4.

This is a nice battery, I get no compatibility messages or issues and being able to be charged via USB I can even charge it from my power bank whilst travelling which is the best feature for me, all in all, a very good battery from smallrig.
This NP-W235 rechargeable battery (Model No. 4266) arrives in a plain looking, Smallrig branded, cardboard box. Inside the box is the battery itself, along with a USB charging cable.
The battery is well made and has a good finish. It is the same size of Fuji’s original battery, so there were no issues with taking it in and out of the camera.
The inbuilt USB Type-C charging port is very handy, as it allows you to charge the battery directly without the need of a recharging cradle. Having said that, it can also be charged in a NP-W235 compatible charger should you wish to.
In use, although this battery is said to have a slightly larger 2400mAh capacity, when compared to the original Fuji battery’s 2200mHA, I found performance to be about the same or a bit less than Fuji’s. Given the much cheaper price though, performance was perfectly acceptable.
All in all, this is a good replacement battery for those Fuji cameras that are compatible, that comes with the added bonus of onboard recharging.

So far so very good. The battery needed charging, as expected, before putting in the camera, but once in there were no complaints from the XT5, and it shows it as fully charged. Not sure as yet how many shots I will get from this, but the main benefit for me is having a spare which can be charged from a power bank whilst off the camera, no need for an additional bulky charger and plug when travelling.
It comes with a base cover which doesn’t fit the Fuji battery, so there must be some shape difference, but it’s so minor that the camera doesn’t notice.
The most convenient improvement of this battery is the built-in USB-C charging port. You can then leave your charger at home when traveling, to save some bagging space.
The capacity of this battery is a little bit larger than the original OEM battery, but to be honest you won’t notice that much.
