This attached on to my existing arm easily, matching the fitting without any issues. The holder is strong and keeps my phone in place without any issues. My case is quite big so I do have to remove it first however once I do it keeps it nice and secure. It can be adjusted to sit at the angle you need making it nice and versatile too. No issues at all.
I got this for my smaller tripod, to use as a quick screw on, portable phone holder. It works well too. Some positive features include it being lightweight, easy to attach and remove and is actually quite strong. It has a string grip too, and I especially like the little ridge on the edge of each grip, too so the phone slipping off. Others I have don’t have this feature.
On the downside, once you tighten it, you cannot adjust its rotational angle. You will basically have to turn the tripod around. Also, Rotating the phone between portrait and landscape, it only adjusts on 45 degrees angles. Both of these are limiting and can be a little frustrating. That aside, for the price you do get a good phone grip, making it definitely worth the money.
My passport is due for renewal and with the online renewal option, this seemed a better option than a selfie stick to ensure the meeting of strict passport photo rules.
It screws into the base plate of your tripod, the same as your camera would. The ends extend to clamp the phone in place in portrait orientation and it can be easily rotated 90 degrees for landscape shots. The resistance is very strong, so there is no fear of it not holding the phone in place and it’s very compact for storage and transport.
It feels like a very well made product and absolutely did what I needed of it. The only issue I encountered was not with the product itself, but rather that my phone is normally kept in a wallet style case so had to be removed from that prior to use. Of course I dropped the phone and cracked the screen, so worth considering purchasing a classic shell case if you also use a folio case and will be getting regular use out of this.
This is a really neat small adapter for your phone. This then allows you to attach your phone to a tripod or selfie pole, ifit does not already have a phone adapter.
This adapter also has to “shoes” one to the left and one to the right, to attach other accessories and the Amazon listing shows this better than I can explain. They call these ‘cold shoes’ as apposed to hot shoe on a camera. The adapter is well made and folds down small. It has a standard threaded mount at the base and this will fit most tripods and monopods that you might buy but not Pro Triopds as these have a bigger thread generally.. The mount for your phone expands and is under tension from a spring I assume. The sides, where your phone slip in is cushioned and will not mark your phone. I have a oneplus 8 pro (about 77mm width) but the jaws look like they will extend to about just over 90mm in total. Its difficult to measure as the spring is really strong and you have to wrestle it open! Once your phone is attached you can swivel it from portrait to landscape easily and is ‘notched’ to stop in places between portait and landscape. Its a handy little adapter to have although I do think that it is a little expensive for what it is, which is why Ive given four stars. It does seem good quality though.
The clamp to hold my iPhone is very strong so I’m not concerned that it will fall off. I use it with a small tripod and it’s very steady and easy to use
This is a good quality phone clamp for mounting on a tripod or other similar stand. It has a little weight to it and feels pretty solid, it is plastic but NOT light weight and brittle.
The maximum clamping size at full extension is 9cm, however, to fit a 9cm width phone you would have to open the clamp fully and slide it in. Loading the clamp from the front, the maximum size is more like 8cm. The clamp spring is strong and holds the phone in place very firmly.
The features are well thought out. The clamp rotates between portrait and landscape in fixed 45 degree increments. Not continuous but probably ok for most people’s needs. These increments click into place in a reassuringly positively way.
There is a standard “Hot shoe” socket at both ends for accessories such as lights. To be clear this socket has not contacts or electronics, it’s just a fitting. This is what you would expect on a phone clamp like this.
The angle of elevation can be adjusted (pointing up or down). It will move through about 160 degrees but doesn’t lie flat either way. This is largely irrelevant because most are not going to need straight up or straight down photographs and actually, any difference in angle required can be adjusted with the tripod or stand.
A good quality, compact clamp that looks like it will last.
I find sometimes when using a mobile phone for video or photography I need to make sure it can’t move.
Something ultra stable like a weighted tripod would be great, but phones don’t have tripod bushes.
Which is where this nifty little gadget comes in useful.
Simply remove it from the easily recyclable cardboard box. Now screw it onto the top of any tripod, large or small, and add the phone to the holder. That’s it, job done,
If needs be it can be rotated as well. It can also be fitted to the hot shoe on most DSLR’s if wanting to shot videos and stills together. Though some DLSR’s might need a shoe adaptor.
The cold shoes on the holder also allow other items such as lights to be added. Plus this could be used as a mount for multiple small action cameras.
The only minor critique is this uses a spring loaded clamp to hold the phone into place. Which for some phones, particularly if in a hard-case, means the fit might not as tight as personally desired. Though there’s a simple fix for that, just use an elastic band. Overall, for a fair price you do get a solid and strong chunk of plastic, one that can also fold up to fit into a small space in your kit bag.
A nice strong grip that pulls out to hold the phone, it has a tripod fitting bottom that will fit most types of tripods (small) i have used mine with a tripod from a light and used a nice light also from Amazon altogether thy work well. You can tilt it in various positions that snap into place solid and easy to use good value for money. Best with volume off to see video ;P
Some phone holders leave a lot to be desired, especially some of the larger ones, but this feels solid and hold your phone firmly, and the “hot shoe” mounts mean you can add a huge big light!
I suspect with a lot of these reviews every body’s searching the Vine list for things that are actually worth having. This is actually quite well made..
This is the ideal mobile phone holder accessory, for use on a tripod or selfie stick. The unit itself is very well made. And feels really strong and holds the phone well. There is a pivot on the holder to enable you to have the phone both vertically and horizontally giving your choice of picture style. There is no handle with this. But it will fit on a standard camera mount.
I was pleasantly impressed with how strong this is – the sprung loaded clamp is strong and does not bend, unlike the plastic type.
The 2 cold shoes either end are a good touch – makes it easy to attach a mic and/or small light.
Overall, at 8.99 (August 2023), I would say that is good value – well made, strong and works well.
No reason not to rate 5
This replaces my old, cheap holder. Cleverly designed, holds my phone gently but steady. It has a standard mount so its compatible with all tripods, holders, sticks, etc. I use it on flexible tripod and holiday videos, photo-selfies are way more easier to do, as i can attach my phone to almost everything and thanks to this holder theres no risk the phone would slip and drop at the floor. It also looks , I would say ‘professional’. Can’t fault it, this is a good example of well designed phone accessory, hence the 5 stars. Thanks!
This is a very good clamp and seems to be made in a sturdy way. Rather than a loose swing it has 3 definitive positions. Vertical, horizontal and the diagonal in between.
The pads on either end of the clamp have rubber inserts to avoid scuffing the phone. Beware that it is spring loaded and may take some effort to fit a wider phone or one with a thick case. The clamping force is strong enough that I didn’t feel worried about my phone falling out, but make sure it isn’t over the buttons or they will be held down.
Unfortunately I couldn’t test the horse shoe mounts as I don’t have any compatible accessories, but can confirm that it rotates 360 degrees very smoothly.
The bottom pivot has a large range of movement, but is rigid once tighten to lock it in place.
I use phone clamps quite a lot and they are generally very similar in design and materials used. I saw the TARION phone clamp and it was the two cold shoe mounts that really appealed to me. The ability to angle the clamp also appealed but that wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be (more about that later) The clamp arrives in a sturdy cardboard box along with a simple user guide, although the device barely needs any explanation about how to use.
The actual clamp seems well made and is primarily plastic, although the type of plastic used feels very sturdy indeed and initially I couldn’t decide whether it was an alloy or not. So, very impressed with the materials used for the body of the clamp (whatever it is). The phone holder part can be swivelled which is a nice feature – the sprung clamp is very firm, arguably a little too firm, but at least it will ensure that your phone is securely held. The ‘jaws’ of the clamp (the parts with the red rubbery cushioning) are a generous width and even if your phone is in quite a thick case it should have room within the width of the TARION phone clamp.
At the base of the clamp you have a choice of mounting options. There’s a cold-shoe mount for mounting on top of a digital camera for example, and there’s a standard 1/4″ tripod screw hole. The base of the body does not swivel but there’s a forward and rearward angle adjustment which is tightened by an adjustable knob. When using this I found the adjustable knob very difficult and awkwardly placed to easily get the chosen angle locked properly and this is the main area of design that I feel needs attention, as once you have managed to get sufficient tightness it’s also then rather difficult to untighten (especially if the phone is mounted vertically as the adjustment knob access is not so good). Either an internal rachet system or larger handle to allow for better grip and leverage would vastly improve this joint. If mounted on a tripod you could use the tripod’s tilt mechanism… but you would have to make sure the TARION adjustment knob was fully tightened prior to that.
As mentioned, I do like having the two cold-shoe mounts, It has to be said though that if using the phone in landscape orientation the bottom cold-shoe could be prolematical. The two mounts allow for the fitting of a couple of LED lamps, or a mic & lamp etc.
The swivel phone clamp rachet mechanism works very well with several locking positions along the 360 travel being available – and they are good and firmly hold the phone at the desired angle.
Overall I quite like this clamp, but would prefer an easier angle (tilt) mechanism with better access and more positively secured angles as when the TARION is mounted on a tripod, or camera, it’s much too difficult to adjust the phone clamp’s angle. The materials used are excellent as they are strong and yet very lightweight. The TARION has more flexibilty than most basic phone clamps too.
I’ve had a couple of cheap and not very good phone clamps over the years which have never lasted very well or been as satisfactory as I’d like.
This one seems well made, functional and strong.
Of course, ultimately time will tell, but I’m very pleased with it as of now.
Making something to hold a phone seems such a simple thing to do, and it’s nice to see one that actually seems to do it well and without any fuss
Pros
– good quality materials
– a nice selection of cold shoe options
– phone holder is pretty tight tension wise
– good range of motion
– nice to have a screw and a cold shoe mouth all-in-one
Cons
– unsecure if in motion
– might be tight clearance wise if you have your phone vertical
It’s not a bad little mount. It’s much better than the ones you get for tripods generally though. With a much wider array of options to mount microphones and lights. You can even mount it on your camera if you use your phone to record video while you shoot photos or videos. Something some creators could use it for.
I do find that it might be a little unsecure if you’re using this on the move. Although the spring tension is nice and tight and it won’t fall out while you’re stationary. There is the risk of it falling out while moving.
Depending on where the buttons are on your phone, you might have an issue with placement for it. With the Xperia 1 V, it’s a little lop sided but seems to hold fairly well. Although feels unsecure while moving because of the lopsided ness.
It’s nice to see so many options for additions like lights and microphones. A pretty nifty little cheap option for the beginner content creator.
Pretty good quality materials. The locking screw for the vertical/horizontal tilt is pretty good as well. Although long term use is yet to be seen. From such a cheap option I imagine there may be a need for an upgrade or another purchase. I hope that’s not the case but unless you’re paying a premium. The experience I’ve had typically result in this point being one of the weaker ones.
At 9.99, the extra price on top of a mini tripod would be a valuable purchase here in my opinion. Just to have the extra cold shoe mounts is worth it.
All round 4 star!
