Everything you need in one box. We had a great afternoon getting creative, just make sure you have enough stuff to dye! Simple to use, very messy as you would expect. We did ours outside just incase! The results were fantastic and the colours were vivid. 100% buy again.
Gloves aren’t up to much, unless you have sausage fingers. But the dyes are good, nice and bright.
Helpful pattern suggestions in the book.
Daughter made herself lots of t shirts, all individual and admired.
I love this product, it was easy to use and comes with everything you need to get started. The colours are strong and hold well in cotton. Please be aware if you have polyester material the colour will fade as I found out after washing the third garment. I like that each colour has its own container which makes a lot less mess.
This has to be one of my favourite things I have bought. They loved it so much they were raiding their wardrobes to dye stuff even socks! We had a “dye-off” and my kids had their friends round to tye-dye their t-shirts! Lots of fun, lots of great memories and lots of great photos too!! Worth every penny!
Good for giving tie dye a go for the first time but the gloves are crap so maybe invest in your own! Loads of dye provided and elastic bands. The colours are quite vibrant so for pink, diluting either the red or violet worked well! I used YouTube to see how to do the designs, the guide included isn’t great!
Fiddly but once done is a great product to let the kids do tye & dye they liked it and t shirts turned out good they were proud of Thier end product.thank you
Got them for a baby shower. A lot of product for the price. The dye doesn’t have salt in it and my friend forgot to rinse them out but they came out so cute
I got this for my daughter and I was so surprised when we opened it! There were so many colours and everything you need to do a few uses. I would definitely buy this agai
Great set, lots of colour options.
Easy to mix ( fill with water and shake up). Pretty simple to use with some brief info on patterns , but I found lots online.
The dye says you have 72 hours after mixing it, which is longer than other brands that say 48hrs
The gloves provided are ok, but be aware they might split and you you might end up with coloured hands but not the end of the world! You might also want get get some extra rubber bands. I had 5 pairs of socks and used a good amount of them, keep in mind I had half bottles left of dye, so would of needed more bands if I had kept going.
Some of the colours are more vibrant than others , but for a first go, this set is fab.
I have bought another set to give a go with the scout Beavers I volunteer as a leader with. Should be fun! But in an outside area .
A half term activity with the kids.
The pack made enough dye to colour 3 hoodies, 3 t-shirts and 2 bags, with a bit left over. The instructions aren’t great so I googled a lot. We wrapped in cling film and left for 24hrs before removing bands and rinsing out. Rinsing takes ages! I’m pleased with the outcome, remains to be seen how well the colour holds and if it runs but a o far so good and the kids are really proud of their creations.
Great set to make tie dye clothes. Use to use although will need adult assistance for younger children wrapping the bands around the clothing. My son loved how is t- shirts came out. We even did some white socks which were losing their colou
I bought 2 of these kits so I could do some clothes with my sisters kids and my sister-in-law’s kids. I didn’t realise there was extra dye in them, so I now have more than I could ever want! Simple to use (just add water to the bottles) and loads of dye. With one incomplete lot of dye (we didn’t use every colour) we did 4 kids tshirts and and 3 large adult tshirts. My only criticism would be that some of the diagrams of the folds weren’t the clearest, but they were good enough that we worked a few out and were pleased with the results. Plus there’s an abundance of videos online showing other patterns so you don’t need to rely on the instruction sheet. The colours did fade a bit at first, and they aren’t as vibrant as the shop bought tie-dye I have, but I wear mine constantly and they still look great. They’re just more pastel shades now, but they don’t seem to be fading any more.
**Edit**
Decided to update this because I recently visited my sister and saw my nieces t-shirt that we did at the same time as mine. My sister hand washes theirs, and they still look really vibrant. So if like me you want to be lazy and just throw them in the machine then expect fading, if you want to look after them and hand wash them the colours will stay much brighter.
Easy to mix, all pieces needed were included. Colours were very vibrant. I used this kit on an arts and craft day with my 6 year old daughter and it was so much fun. We’ve gotten so many compliments on our tshirts when we’ve worn them. Make sure you handwash your dyed clothes after the first time you wear them so the colours dont run in the machine but after that they can go in the washing machine
Really good kit, and Really impressed with how it turned out.
The instructions mentions doing either the dry or wet method, but doesn’t actually explain what the difference is. This was easily solved with a quick google.
I did the dry method, meaning the colours come out more vibrant.
Other than that the instructions were great, and includes instructions on different patterns.
Plenty of solution once the dye is mixed.
Would definitely recommend & buy agai
I used to be afraid of tie dying. It seemed like such a faff and childhood attempts just turned out grey. Now everything I own is rainbow coloured. I always have something on the go. I mix up the colours I want in the bottles, either use the squish-and-band technique for small things like individual clothing items or washcloths, or the watercolour technique water-spraying a section of a large item like a bedsheet and squirting the colours in a random pattern (doing two square feet at a time I’ll be working on this forever but it looks amazing). I leave the item for 24 or 48 hours before unbanding and stretching out in a safe place (I mean safe from drips, not burglary) until completely dry, then I pop in the wash with some salt. I think letting it dry completely before washing is a key step. This isn’t the widest selection of colours but a good rainbow. Some of the bigger sets have nearly indistinguishable colours (how many ways can you name lime green ish). I do need refill dye sachets, though …
Even though it’s marketed for kids, I was really impressed by the quality of this kit! Like it comes with everything you need, and the colours are great quality. I made two tapestry-like things, quite large. I used all the colours and I just used the first half of the powder (Not the extra sealed packs) I used 100% cotton and didnt prewash it (oops) but surprisingly they turned out great! The colours remained on there after a couple of machine washes. It has been 5 months since i made them and they still look great. I did leave one in the sun for a long time and it got a tiny bit bleached, but still good. I still have the other half for a second project. really happy, no complaints
That moment when they say if you loved me you’d buy it, No it wasn’t like that.
I was one of the she had a bad day and felt completely depressed especially in this covid 19 lockdown and she just needed something to do.
She had seen on tiktok videos on tie dying and wanted to give it a try. I said no as I am trying to budget and if I purchased every whim or tiktok video inspired idea I’d be broke.
So she locked herself in her room and cried, she would eat and wouldn’t talk to me.
So I brought it for my own sanity.
Now she os happy and is making a mess all over the kitchen, we’ll worth the price. *sigh*
I bought this kit as I had a top ruined by colour run I thought could be rescued by tie dye. It was, and I’ve dyed everything in sight too! This was my first time tie dyeing anything, at the grand age of 38.
I used clear plastic bin bags as a work surface and to tie the designs into to set overnight, which kept things mess free. The bottles were prone to splashing a little when you pull the cap off but after the first time I was more careful.
I used the dye as described, mixed with water in the bottles, and watered down for lighter shades. I also played around with ice and snow dyeing with the refill powders and love the results.
The instructions were not that useful, beyond showing a couple of ties. I needed to look online to see how best to apply dye for different patterns. I also learned way more about folding techniques and alternative dyeing techniques with a Google search.
To wash, I rinsed items in warm water as best I could then ran through a quick wash in the machine at 30 on their own. Some I ran through more than once to be on the safe side. I used mostly cotton but experimented with other fabrics – I think people complaining about the dye not holding may not have used cotton, as it does affect different fabrics differently. Even different weights of cotton took the dye differently.
I’ve ended up refreshing a lot of old white tshirts that had yellowed, and with some bright beachwear made with new items. Some things I dyed because I get white grubby in minutes so never wore them, and others were too see through so dyeing them made them more wearable.
I’m amazed at the variety of colour schemes, depth of colour and patterns achieved. I’ve even used one technique on a shirt, washed and dried it, then retreated it with another technique. Some things are classic hippy, some are 90s grunge, and some are much more modern like the ice dye in the shops right now.
My only criticisms would be that I’d love to buy refill sachets on their own, and that the instructions are very limited. As long as you use 100% cotton and do a little reading first though you shouldn’t be disappointed.
We had lots of fun with this, lots of colours (we had success mixing our own too!). We managed to do two thick adult jumpers and a couple of t shirts and have at least half of the dye length. Really good for a fun craft day with kids or for a lockdown adult project! The instructions could be slightly more detailed, but it’s easy enough to look a video up online if you haven’t done it before!
The picture attached was made using pastel dye quantities (half the powder to water ratio) left for 8 hours on a 70% cotton blend. The pink one is a little paler thank it looks in the photo- if you’re unsure about time, less is always more as you can add more dye later!
Couldn’t wait for this to arrive as my gd wanted me to tie dye some t shirts. I tried with food colouring but they just washed out. Initially I used the indigo purple and pink but didn’t need it all and as it doesn’t keep I weighed it out and used just half . As it turned out the colours were really strong. I liked it but my gd wanted a more muted one so did another t but really diluting it down and that was more to her liking. The above photo is my undiluted version which I really liked. We make a good present for 12 yr old ish kids with supervision as it could get very messy!
I’ve never tie dyed before but wanted to give it a go with my two children. I used fruit of the look white T-shirt’s, I should have pre washed them but just wetted them so they were damp instead. Created my designs using the elastic bands provided and put the T-shirt’s on top of a cooling rack so the colours didn’t drip and then mix. I then wrapped the T-shirt’s in plastic bags and left them for 8 hours. Washed the dye out in cold water and then put then put them in the washing machine on a hot wash to ‘set’ the dye. Voil! Think they look fab! My children love it. Slightly disappointed with the green colour, seems a bit washed out but never mind.
Literally fantastic. I don’t care that I’m a fully grown adult, I really enjoyed this! The bottles are easy to use and distribute the dye. I dyed a cheap white maternity t-shirt, a ton of cheap white baby grows and some muslins. They all took to the dye really well!
I tried the techniques on the leaflet that came with it and had fun. I followed someone else’s comments about vinegar and salt (best google it before you start!) and most of the colours didn’t run. I decided to wash the yellow/greens separate to the darker reds/blues to be safe. The fabrics I washed that had all the colours, the greens and yellows did take on some of the darker dye and it’s a bit darker/less vibrant – still looks great though!
I was going to buy the dyes individually but found this was the most cost effective way to do it and I’m glad I did as it comes with gloves and the easy to use bottles 🙂 So I’m very happy!
This has been my favourite purchase since lock down, great value for money, clear instructions, easy to use and the children and I had such fun with it. We ordered 10 pack of fruit of the loom t shirts from Amazon also (1.60 each !!!!) , they all arrived on the same day. I set up our art waterproof table cloth outside on the lawn and we all designed our t-shirts. You have to use the dye within 72 hours once mixed, as there were 4 of us doing it and we each had 3 t shirts I decided to add water to all the dyes. 12 t-shirts completed and some of the bottles still had a little in (and that’s with an over excited 5 year old using lots!) . You get replacement sachets so you can do the same all over again. Not sure how they’ve worked out yet but the designs are irrelevant to the review. Great fun, 5 stars
