Early days, literally plugged it in, works immediately.
Transfered from my internal drive to new expansion drive, never seen 100gb file move so fast.
Now downloading all the games I couldn’t just store, pleased already.
Every game I have installed to this 1TB Drive has run fine off the Xbox, so nice to have 2TB (almost) especially if COD games are coming to GamePass later this year, always find it better to install rather than stream!
Highly recommend
It may seem overpriced, but given it just slots right in and runs fast enough to have Series X version of games able to play from it (which is only available on internal storage) then it’s worth every penny.
Game sizes grow each year so having this has made my life easier.
If you have a series X/S and struggle for space, then this is the card for you.
Without this little plug in HDD/SDD (512gb) the series s is worthless. For example Call of duty, modern warefare III is 295gb in total. That’s without upcoming updates. Basically without the WD plugin that I’m leaving a review about, the internal storage in the xbox series S would just about be enough. No room for other games.
I’m using this drive to store various large files that are then portable between various systems. I’ve so far written just over 7 TB to it. The drive performs well and I’ve found it relatively quiet (when flat rather than upright in the provided cradle when there is then some vibration noise) in operation. I personally like the ridges and WD_Black / Xbox markings as it looks a bit more interesting than the usual ‘black box’ kind of external drive.
It’s on the pricey side even when being picked up at sale. It couldn’t be easier to use though. I just plugged it into the back of my Series X and the console instantly picked it up and added the storage space. I’ve installed plenty of games on it already and they load at the same speed they would coming from the consoles own hard drive.
As you know some of the games require installation on internal storage for the quickest speeds, this does the job too giving you an extra 1TB to use for said games. Open packaging – put it in the xbox slot on the back – done, no formatting was required but I did it via xbox storage anyway to be safe.
Good price on sale but at the end of the day it’s just more storage that xbox has made necessary for the quicker games. And WD being a recognised company I’m hoping for good longevity too.
I was initially going to return this as Xbox S did not recognise the memory card when I came to play the games that I believed I had downloaded to it. After removing and inspecting the card a couple of times, one review said it the card should be inserted when there is no power going to the X Box, so don’t attempt n standby mode and this worked. Now happy with purchase.
Bought for series x. I inserted it and was recognised but when i moved a game across from the internal drive and tried to play it. It said error and drive too weak. I noticed the speed of transfer was just over 3gb per second which must be too slow. I tried reinserting it and still the same. I then tried powering off the xbox from the mains for a minute and when i tried it again it worked and the transfer speed had gone up to over 5gb per second. I also pushed it in harder. Its working fine now but ive knocked a star off for the initial problems. Has anyone else experianced this?
Great price. Just plugged in to Xbox X and formatted it. Sound quality, and runs real quick. Allows you to run XS games from expansion disk. Transfer speed as quick as internal memory disk.
It great when you buy something that does exactly what you want it to, great value for money, plug it in and it’s good to go, games play perfectly from it.
Absolutely amazing it’s only 512gb the one I picked up however the change is incredible. I’m able to get the same amount of storage as I would on an Xbox series. X worth the money. You also get one month of game pass for free
Was able to buy this on sale for $128, which is an “ok” price for the added storage amount -much better than before when only Seagate was selling them. Super simple install…truly plug-n-play. Provides some sorely needed storage space for new games and allowed me to move all my older games from external storage to internal for faster loading, etc. The product seems fairly rugged and so far has performed well, but I’ve only had it for about a month, so time will tell.
The cost is still a little ridiculous for this amount of space, even on sale, but it really does just plug in and work. Came with instructions on how to format the drive for use but they must have made a change to ship them preformatted because mine worked right out of the box. Easy extra space.
I recently purchased the WD_Black 1TB C50 Storage Expansion Card for my Xbox Series X, and I must say it has been a game-changer in terms of storage convenience. The ease of use is one of its standout features. All I had to do was plug it into the dedicated expansion slot on my Xbox Series X, and it was instantly recognized and ready to use. No complicated setup or lengthy installations — it was truly a plug-and-play experience.
What really impressed me, though, is that this storage expansion card matches the speed of the internal SSD in my Xbox Series X. I was worried that an external drive might compromise load times and game performance, but with the C50, I noticed no difference at all. Games load just as quickly as they do from the internal storage, and I can seamlessly switch between titles without missing a beat.
The 1TB capacity is a significant boost to my storage capacity, allowing me to maintain a vast library of games without constantly juggling which ones to keep installed. This has improved my gaming experience, especially in a world where game file sizes keep growing.
Overall, the WD_Black 1TB C50 Storage Expansion Card has made expanding my Xbox Series X’s storage a breeze. Its ease of use and matching internal SSD speed make it a no-brainer for anyone looking to enhance their gaming experience without sacrificing performance. It’s been a great addition to my setup, and I highly recommend it to fellow Xbox gamers.
I giochi partono subito.
I have brought seagate card before this and they are the same. The WD card allows you to run games straight from expansion card. For the slightly cheaper price (then seagate) its worth it. I got the 1tb version and came after a few days. I have plenty of games stored on it and still sitting at 68% used.
WD is the way I went to extend my wife’s Xbox S capacity. The other option was Seagate.
Never choose Seagate!
Seagate drives I have had in the past have: swollen (onboard battery issue), stopped for no good reason, never started for no good reason, and are just a big pile of shite.
I would never use Seagate again, even to the point of using an external drive to store the games on and swapping between drives when my wife wanted to play something else, until WD joined the Xbox expansion party.
The WD expansion is nice and light, well made, plugs into the back and is ready to go.
You get a little cover for the connection end, if you ever decide to remove the storage stick and take it with you, and it appears to be reasonably sturdy.
All in all, it’s good value for money.
Making a ssd with a weird slot connecter to force people to pay more money is a scam in my opinion. I decided to just buy an external ssd a 250gb cost me 23 a 500gn was 30 and even for a 1tb WD external ssd or hard drive you can get for roughly 60. As soon as I plugged in my ssd (integral) it asked me to format it for games so I did, I moved red dead 2, Alice madness returns and a few other games on to it and cleared enough space for the new game I wanted to play and it was getting 550Mbps moving to the ssd. External ssd drives are really fast, it’s all I need to archive my games that I’m not playing. These internal drives Microsoft force people to use as just a big rip off and not needed. Despite what Microsoft would have you believe there is no slow down launching red dead redemption 2 or any other games from an external SSD over usb 3. Red dead 2 loaded in seconds and it’s 120gb. Do yourself a favour, save your money and get a a fast external ssd look out for daily deals or offers and get an external usb 3.0 or or 3.1 and thank me later.
Who: Average Joe (my name’s not Joe… Or is it)
– _-
What: 5tb 2.5 inch WD Black up to 130mbs
Where: My home, garden and space… I wish
When: Monday 28th August 23:44
Why: To back up old games from GOG and Retail copies for archives
Is it worth it… Yes, if you want a simple back up drive for that sole reason alone, transfer or copy to a faster drive. You are no way going to get SSD, NVME or even top of the line Micro SD card speeds, dream on.
It’s a simple cheap drive packed in a nice looking enclosure; reminds of a shipping container that got sat on.
In truth, you would be better of buying a 2.5 inch enclosure and buying a secondhand or new drive off eBay.
Works for me and my needs.
P.S I say you could play older titles off of it… But newer ones will struggle.
i got it for my xbox series x and needed extra storage i am really pleased with it seems well made works just as well as the Seagate from Microsoft which is good for competition and better price
Item works perfect, adds much needed internal storage and works perfect. No need to keep switching and transferring games from external drives, will run optimised games straight from this internal drive. I got the 1TB option, good price and works as described.
Bought the 5tb version to use with my RPI 4, I’m replacing a 1tb drive with usb adapter to with the 5tb gaming drive. I reformatted and use the drive in conjunction with open media vault and docker. No issues with drive, noise and heat minimal. No clicking as reported by some however mine is powered by a hub but previously the 1tb was powered by the pi. Im using a hub so I can mirror the 1tb LVM to a 1tb partition on the 5tb drive
Update 03/10/2022: The drive has been returned to WD due to sector fails and ended with the drive being unreadable. Drive was sent back as RMA 3 weeks ago, so far no replacement sent however Ihad confirmation they received the drive
UPDATE 07/08/2022: The drive has had a lot of use 2000+ hours, and it has performed well. I changed my setup and moved away from the RPI4 and am now using a HP 800 G2 Mini I5-5500T which is giving me more bang for buck and I am getting better USB3 speeds, my system is built on proxmox with omv openmediavault virtualised in a VM, and the 5TB USB drive is used to hold media on a ZFS filesystem. I have recently started getting issues with read errors on one sector, this is under investigation to see whether its an actual disk fault or an issue with USB maybe dropping and causing a write issue. So far its only one sector.
The drive isn’t noisy the current temp is 51c according to smartd.
