Offers 12 months protection from rust corrosion, so although pricey at first purchase, using it for a bike as I am will mean the can will last a while and keep things from getting rusty all that time which is priceless!
As application is by spraying, and it seems to be a high pressure spray at that, I’d advise using some form of cover/mask as protection for your mouth/nose and to use it in a really well ventilated area as it is prone to going everywhere and not just where you pointed it!
This is one of those products that you don’t realise you need until you buy it and to be honest I wasn’t sure what to apply it too when it first arrived. Enter the tool shed and I soon found things to spray it on, from my trusty garden fork and spade to all manner of things made of metal. I had considered spraying my metal garden pheasant too but I think that might be best applied on a rag and wiped on to avoid dripping and over application.
According to the manufacturer Dr Downpipe Anti Corrosion Spray has many uses, especially for automotive applications and no doubt come the summertime when I start valeting my car I’ll be needing to buy a second can. Of course the applications don’t stop there, I’ve already mentioned I sprayed my garden tools but the possibilities are limitless when you start to think about it, I’ve even sprayed the hinges on my garden gate and there’s probably many more I could think of.
The information on the can says to avoid breathing the fumes and this is probably good advice, especially as it has quite a chemical smell to it. When using it outside it’s probably best not to use it in confined spaces or on windy days either.
Best of all, I like that you don’t need to keep reapplying this product after every wash so I think an annual application should be fine. Also worth noting is that it’s claimed this product also neutralizes road salt which is always a good thing, let’s hope those claims hold true after the winter.
All-in-all a good product which is competitively priced.
Seems like a good spray in a very large can so capable of doing a large amount of coverage.
It goes on to give good coverage and looks fine but time will tell if it does exactly what it should.
So far results look good and it doesn’t detract from the original finish too much.
This is one of those things I am not able to say whether it works or not as only time will tell. So instead I can only comment on the use.
It sprays really hard, its my first time using something like this and it is really messy. I think that is a hazard of this type of product rather than this product itself.
I have used it on my E-Bike that I am not great at covering when I lock up at home in the garden, so It is nice to have this. I have sprayed the frame, and most metal except the chain, gears, brakes an sprockets.
It does take sometime to dry, but I used it in the evening when I got home and then it was fine when I left for work in the morning.
I think I will get a fair few uses out of it so it seems to be long lasting, I would recommend gloves if you are doing small areas… also do not get to close as even outside it has a very strong smell.
The only issue is that there are cheaper options if you look around that say they do the same job. But this one seems to be great and so far no issues.
One of those products that has so many uses in protecting metal by forming an anti-corrosion barrier. This has a lot of competitors but in my opinion this is as good as anything, better than some and is competitively priced. It seems to contain some light hydrocarbons which act as a carrier but the residue left is thick persistent and oily. If you are simply trying to prevent tools from going rusty you will probably end up wiping a fair bit of it off with a rag. It comes with a few hazard warnings like pretty much everything these days and the more cautious will wear gloves and avoid contact with your skin. Its certainly persistently greasy if you do accidently get it on your skin. Really good for its intended uses, possibly a bit heavy duty for those who normally use cheaper water dispersant type sprays.
The best review of this would be written after the spray had been in use for several months, but this is being written after just the initial trial run.
When sprayed on, it is initially liquid enough to ooze into cracks and joins to give good coverage, and dries to a clear film that remains a bit tacky the next day. Doesn’t look as if it will be robust enough to survive the motorbike being given a good clean, but this remains to be seen.
It has a nice smell to it, making it pleasant to work with, and leaving no nasty smells in the garage.
After years of using ACF50 on various motorbikes, it will be interesting to see how this compares over the long term, but the initial impression is good.
4 star rated as the longevity can’t be rated until later.
This arrived today and was keen to use as we spray our mower decks underneath with this type of product after cleaning up for the winter.
It sprays reasonably well with some force and coats fast to create a wet surface that dries a bit over a few hours.
We normally use a famous brand (Supe*****) for this task and to be honest it goes on, and smells exactly the same. Use in a very well ventilated area and wear a mask. If you breathe this stuff its not nice. I was hoping that this product would be a little friendlier to use but alas its the same brown goo.
It does protect steel well though and would wipe of if you over do it.
There are better deals around for multiple cans of this anti rust type spray hence 4****’s
Sprayed this on my bike and it instantly got rid of all the white powdery corrosion. For the money the cab seems like it would last ages. Used on my pushbike too.
