For anyone serious about documenting their adventures with professional-grade footage, the DJI Osmo Action 4 Adventure Combo is a worthy investment, setting a new standard in the action camera market. i have got the combo so its worth getting it . It comes with 2 battery and a case which can be used as a power bank as well
Great camera, using on my motorcycle as dashcam and the video footage and stability is great just a pity my PC isn’t powerful enough to handle the higher frame rate, Oh well PC update needed
Let me start with saying that I am biased towards DJI as I have their drones too. This camera is great, I use it for white water kayaking and it performs quite well. It does overheat when using 4k/60 and 10 bit but you should still get an hour before it shuts down, also you can get around that for the most part (see youtube), I mostly have it set to 1080/60, even that quality far surpasses any of the cheap action cameras. It has a good range of quality settings, and other options such as voice operation and the waterproofness is second to none.
I would certainly recommend this camera.
Been a Gopro user for years having the 7 and 9 but wanted to get a newer version, almost purchased the 12 but owning a DJI drone took a look at the Osmo 4 and took plunge at 280 vs GoPro crazy 349 with 50 off promo!!! This camera blows the 12 out of the water in every aspect did BPW with a mate using the 12 and my footage was more stable, less grainy both at 4k super wide. If looking for the best with best pricing you cannot go wrong… amazing
This little camera has been amazing. I got rid of the insta 360 as the image quality was too poor for the price. Yet this camera with battery pack is brilliant. I use it for my vlogging and home movies. Doesn’t fail. Nice and well built like all DJI products. We have a fair few of their products in the household. All of them are well made. What impressed me was it didn’t overheat in 42 degree weather. I expected like my previous GoPros to simply turn off but it kept on working. So far super impressed. The dji app also is great for editing videos and pics. Very similar to paid for services but theirs is free and included and more private than the insta360 well at least it feels that way. Once or twice I had this invalid file message pop up but it didn’t lose any files ever. They constantly update the camera so it’s expected and worked perfectly so I’m happy. To be honest I put it through its paces. With the 512gb usb it recorded for like 11hrs or something? The file sizes are often split into 30 mins each but this I think is to help with processing and stop over heating. Which works brilliant as a camera which switches off would be useless (cough GoPro).
Oh those extra batteries are a lifesaver. It can also be charged very quickly from a wall or battery power bank. It’s probably lame but the selfie stick is excellent. It extends super long and is very sturdy. Looks like a ninja weapon lol. I wonder if I could use it and become a Donatello from TMNT? seriously tho I love the stick. Very well made.
Also it was super clear under water and didn’t miss a beat. Just remember to watch videos on how to use it and set it up properly and make sure you close the doors properly to keep them watertight.
Cheers dji. Bring out the next amazing gadget.
Brilliant camera, better than the latest GoPro Hero 12 and at a fraction of the price.
You do have to download the app from the DJI website in order to register and use, not ideal but no real issues. I’ve included a video clip in very dark conditions to give some idea of its low light capabilities, I think someone who knew what they were doing, could possibly get even better results, this definitely out performs the GoPro in all areas as far as I’m concerned.
Having had GoPros since they came out, there were some concerns about moving to DJI and the Action 4. I have to say, wish I had done this a few years ago. The device is so good, small, light but also strong and the image quality for pictures and video is so good. I would recommend this for sure. The Apps are also great to and simple to use, but allow editing to the max too if required. Can’t wait for any upgrades now.
Great camera, there are reviews everywhere online eshewing it’s capabilities so won’t go into them here, suffice to say that one thing that is curiously absent from reviews is the fact that, if you’re an android user, you’ll need to lower your phone security settings and sideload the (DJI mimo) app becuase it’s been removed, along with other DJI apps, from the Google play store. There are some very interesting views on this particularly from within the Cybersecurity community after some analysis of the app and the official DJI public response is cryptic to say the least and does nothing but heighten concern. It’s likely on a par with other app behaviour in this day and age but the lack of availability through the store could put some people off – bare this in mind if you are planning on getting the camera and use android.

I rarely go overboard with my praise of a bit of equipment but this little camera did everything asked of it and more.
I bought this camera to film waterfalls and hot water springs. I’ve previously used other brands of action cameras which made me really dislike the whole idea of an action camera. But needs must and this camera had received many good reviews.
I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The image stabilisation is absolutely incredible, even holding the camera against a coach window as we bumped along rocky roads produced rock steady images. The camera never failed to work. It always switched on and did exactly what it was supposed to do. Being able to shoot RAW stills and 4K video that were correctly exposed, well colour balanced and still editable later is very welcome.
I took the camera into snow, waterfalls, hot springs and the rain, indoors outdoors and stuffed into pockets. Each and every time it worked, even in the cold the battery lasted for hours and was easily topped up by the use of a portable battery pack.
Could it be improved? Of course it can but straight out of the box this is a reliable tool.
So, I did a lot of research between this and the GoPro Hero 12. I like that it comes with a magnetic quick lock, once the DJI is placed on the lock it’s not coming off until you press the release buttons. Both back and front screens are touch screens, really easy to configure the camera and even easier if you get the DJI Mimo app on your phone, you can see what the Camera is showing but also have all the options on your phone to change settings, handy if you on the go. I love the voice control option (need to enable) I just say “Start Recording”, “Stop Recording”, “Take Photo” & “Shutdown”, I have been using this as a Dashcam “With DJI Osmo Action Suction Cup” (can be used to add to the side of the car!), plus I have 2 additional batteries with the Osmo Action Multifunctional Battery Case. I will be using this Camera a lot, hiking, bike riding, etc
Although the camera I ordered from Amazon did not arrive on the assigned day and the order was then cancelled, I did buy it from another retailer so I’m in a position to review this product after several months of use.
I have owned all the DJI action cameras which in itself is a good recommendation. Video quality in good light conditions is excellent, user interface is fantastic, battery performance is great, overheating is not an issue (if you use the camera as designed), and the software NEVER NEVER freezes (unlike another well known rival product that I won’t mention).
Notwithstanding all the positive points listed above, in anything other than good light conditions you will see micro-jitters in the video footage. Having owned different brands of action camera this shortcoming is quite common.
Another specific issue to note. The Osmo Action 4 has a ‘loop recording’ video feature meaning you could use the camera as a dashcam. However, in the case of the Osmo Action 4 this description is misleading. Unlike a bespoke dashcam (which overwrites old files so that video recording is continuous even if you have run out of space on the SD card), the Osmo Action 4 stops recording video in loop recording mode when the SD card is full. It doesn’t overwrite old files. I have contacted DJI about this issue and they are investigating. I’m hoping a firmware update will improve the ‘loop recording’ feature.
My story is a familiar one by now. Long-time GoPro user, having bought the Hero 4, 6, 7, 9 and 10, experiencing problems with every single one of them. I put up with it because there was no alternative but by the time I got to the Hero 10 I’d decided that I would no longer buy a GoPro. The faults are well documented but one of the reasons for using a small action cam was to encourage my partner to do some simple vlogging, and it got to the point where she stopped picking the GoPro up because it was so frustrating to use.
Enter the Action 4. This camera just works. It turns on when it’s supposed to, turns off when it’s supposed to, records clips without crashing, doesn’t overheat, and charges the battery correctly and quickly. On top of this, the log profile is a joy to colour correct with excellent dynamic range, even in low light. In fact, the low-light performance is way better than I was expecting and certainly covers situations where the GoPro would have just fallen apart.
With the GoPro I always shot in linear, and the Action 4 has an equivalent fov (don’t for forget to use RS+ for tighter cropping). I dial down sharpness and denoise to -2 for a more cinematic look (yeah, I said that word!).
If you’re looking for a simple vlogging set-up, I’d consider the Smallrig cage and the Comica VM10 Pro. With the narrower fov you just avoid getting the mic in shot, and the Comica connects directly via USB-C. I thought that cable poking out the side of the camera might be an issue but it works well.
Finally, a big shout out to the magnetic connections. It’s a genius design and you have to wonder why GoPro hasn’t adopted something similar. It makes breaking down the camera to pop in your bag so much quicker.
If you’re like me and got to the point where your heart would sink when picking up the GoPro, get the Action 4. It is an amazing little camera with superior usability and results. It’s the kind of camera that makes you want to just pick it up and get recording.
