easy to setup and use!
Very easy to app setup and cleaning function is good! Good for every day routine cleaning! But voice commands are not very accurate for the robot to pickup. Overall happy with the product.
Great but the dogpoo detection is near non-existant.
Writing this review after a wee while of owning it.
Look this is far superior to our old one, we ultimately took the leap on the additional price point due to the added convenience this one has over others to make our life easier and this has largely come to pass.
The negatives: The dog poo detection feature is utterly hopeless, might be because our floor is slightly darker? however, I have just spent the last 2+ hours cleaning up the Hoover with all its little edges all over the place to trap all the ‘crap’, and can say if it ever does run over any dog ‘business’, god have mercy on your soul. The same is true with other hoovers however i was really hoping for more from this smart detection feature for the price.
Very happy with this vacuum cleane
Have been using x1 e omni for two weeks. I am very satisfied with it.
I placed it on the first floor with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It scanned the whole floor first and produced a map. You could edit the map yourself, combining or separating rooms, moving the walls, renaming the rooms etc. You can ask it to clean the whole floor, or choose one or several rooms for area clean. The cleaning preferences can also be customised, such as suction power and cleaning times.
The mop pads can be installed or removed quite easily. It will avoid the carpet if you put the mop pads on. After mopping, the machine will clean the pads and dry it with warm air. When the mop pads are removed, it will just vacuum. The suction power will automatically increase once it is on carpet.
I really enjoyed the real-time video feature. You can use the robot as a security camera when you are away! You can specify a small area and ask the robot to go and check.
There was only one small problem. For the first two whole floor cleans, the dust container got too full, and a bit of dust leaked during the emptying process at the station. I heard it is because of the dustbin full sensor patent. It could be easily solved by setting the robot to clean different areas, rather than the whole area at once. After it cleaned a few times, there was less dirt to collect at once, so it can now handle bigger areas without problems.
value for money and smart upgrade
it is an upgrade from my previous robot vacuum cleaner/mopper, roborock s7, to have a better cleaning function and mopping ability. The result is quite satisfactory and saves quite a bit of time for after cleaning service.
The mopping fuction is quite different from previous S7, which has difficutlies to remove tough stains due to its vibration method. X1e now has better mopping method and can easily mop the kitchen without water streak. It will automatically clean the mopping pad during the cleaning so no more dirty pad in the later stage of cleaning/mopping. The water tank and waste tank is quite huge and bigger than I thought, but good thing is I don’t need to empty them as often as my old S7.
The time schedule and cleaning sequence are another upgrade, which make it works at night rather than have to set it before going to bed. I can empty dust box and waste tank next day when I’m free to do so.
On the other hand, the ability of avoiding obstacles in X1e is just a little bit better than S7. It won’t struggle to climb over the chair stand and stuck there forever like S7, but it will cover less area and avoid to mop the carpet area in the hall way, as shown in the cleaning map. So the total cleaning time is shorter than S7 by around 1/10.
Comparing to X1, X1e doesn’t have 3d structure light and auto refilling for water tank. Both fuctions are not essential for my requirement but could save me 150. Hence I’m quite satisfied with its price and quality.
Let me set the scene before getting into the review. We are a family of six, with 4 kids ranging in age from 18 to 8. We live on a small holding with a couple acres of land, which means we get lots of mud and grass brought into the house. We also have a large Saint Bernard (bitch) who sheds her coat twice a year and has two seasons (one happening as I type). Our house is a large 5 bed converted barn, in the style of a normandy long house. Both my wife and I work full time. Therefore keeping the house clean was always a time consuming job.
We decided to get this robot to help to keep on top of the house and free up some time cleaning. We were not sure what to expect in terms of how it would work, but within one week, it has now become our best purchase ever and my wife would not be without it moving forward.
Strengths, it is quiet in normal cleaning mode. So much so, it does not stress the dog when it gets close, and I managed to fall asleep in the lounge when it was cleaning. The only reason it woke me up, was it touched my foot when it was trying to mop around it. It is very quick at mapping out your house. You can then edit the map to name each room and set the sequence of cleaning. The app then generates a 3d image of your house, enabling you to add furniture and label it, ie fridge. This is useful when you want the robot to just clean around the fridge, rather than the whole house. The robot has a camera, so you can connect via the app and see what it is doing, useful if like us, you have big sofas which the robot can go under to clean. The app allows you to set up patrol mode. This allows you to set points around your house via the map where the robot will go and take pictures in all directions and store them ready for you to view on your phone. This will be useful when you go on holiday and want to ensure the house is OK. Perhaps you are leaving your kids behind and want the bot to check that they are not having any parties in the house whilst you are away! The app allows you to set up a schedule of cleaning. It also has additional features like deep clean. This particular bot includes vacuuming and mopping pads which is perfect for us. The robots station, includes a number of components. It stores fresh water (with the cleaning fluid). We have found this needs topping up every other day. It stores dirty water (again needs emptying every other day), a bin bag which sucks the dirt from inside the small bin located inside the robot itself. Finally, the pads cleaning station, where it will clean its pads several times during each cleaning session. (the dirty water gets sucked up into the container for you to dispose of later).
What impact has it had – before we had the bot, a typical week would look like this. My wife would hoover and mop each room once a week. Then during the week, we would do our best to keep on top of the dirt that accumulates in areas like the kitchen and lounge. Throughout the week, the build up of dog hair and blood spots from her being in season would be noticeable until they were once again cleaned at the weekend. Now we have the bot, it is very different. The bot cleans once a day throughout the house. We do not see any stray dog hair or blood spots. We do not notice any grit or debris under our feet as we walk around the house and each floor looks excellent. In the lounge, the robot gets under the sofas to vacuum and mop. This is great as before it would always attract lots of dog hair and dust. Now I can see how clean it is under the sofas.
Downsides. Recharging takes time, it can take a good four hours to recharge if the battery is low. not a major issue given we only ask it to clean once a day. The app will not allow you to add a room to an existing map. The first time the bot mapped our house, it missed off the ground floor toilet and now it keeps bypassing it. I can only remedy this by creating a whole new map and then going through the process of amending the maps with room designations and furniture. again not a major issue, but it would be nice to have this updated in the app. Some of the furniture items you can add work well, but you are restricted to how you can add them to a room. one of our sofas is L shaped. There is an L shaped sofa in the app, but it will not let me turn it to the correct shape for the room. I can make it longer or shorter, but not spin it on its axis so it fits in the space. hope that makes sense. Again not a major issue as the robot does fine with the map as it stands. It would be great if it integrated with Apple HomeKit but again not a major issue that it does not. The only time the robot makes a loud sound, is when it has returned to its base and it needs to vacuum the bin contents from its onboard bin to the container bin. This takes you by surprise when it happens so be prepared. Overall, we would not be without it now and we wish we had one when we moved in 4 years ago. well worth the money. it’s a lot cheaper than getting a cleaner.
Very good for the price
It lasted for just over a year cleaning everyday, for the relative price that seems ok.
Some points to note:
GOOD
– changing the brushes and filter is very easy, everything snaps into their places nicely.
– It’s horribly inefficient but cleans well. I think the inefficiency helps with that, but at the cost of time and electricity.
NOT SO GOOD
– The app is crappy, very slow and sometimes can’t connect to the bot. So I was sometimes forced to go for the remote.
– Once a schedule is set with the remote, it can’t be removed. Even if its remove on the remote, the bot still remembers it; which is why it was cleaning everyday for a year.
– Setting a schedule via the app adds a new schedule, separate to one on the remote. It can’t read what the bot is currently set to do via the remote, so you need to manage that in 2 places if you set one with the remote.
– The remote must be pointed at the bot for the signal to be received, so you’ll need to go find the bot when it doesn’t make it back to the charger.
– Alexa command were unreliable and very specific. You needed to get the phrase exactly right, no natural language benefits at all. Only one of the provided phrases worked for me, and it wasn’t the easiest to remember.
– Alexa integration was minimal, all you can do was start or stop it in auto more, no status info, no other modes, no scheduling.
– The app started some aggressive marketing a few months ago. It doesn’t give notifications about the bot at all, just ads, so I blocked it.
– It has a high suction mode in the app, which I turned on, but it turns the setting off without notice, so I actually can’t say if it works.
In short, the bot is pretty good for the relative price, albeit short-lived. Alexa integration and the app are horrible, so I won’t use this brand again, because convenience is a big requirement for me.
I’m updating this review after spending 4 months with the device – so read the good bit first (if you like) I’d you easing to know the reality of living with this VERY EXPENSIVE vacuum cleaner, scroll to the end
——
The Ecovacs deebot X1 omni (or “Bert” as he’s known in our house) has been an absolute gamechager for us. We are a busy couple, working from home with two big, hairy dogs who are constantly shedding hair and tramping dirt into the house – to the point where we were having to vacuum and mop the floors two or three times a day. We had considered getting a cleaner in but that is very expensive (and feels kindof weird for people who were raised in not-well-off households) and that would only solve the problem for two days of the week.
I did a lot of research into robot vacuums before deciding on Bert – most of them require manual emptying which kindof does away with the whole point of having a device that you can schedule to do a task and then leave to get on with it – so a device which self-emptied was a must. Same with the mop – we needed something that would mop the floors, but we knew from experience that the mop would get filthy really quickly and we have a large ground floor which would take more than a single robot-sized tank of water to clean, so a mop which also self-emptied was a must.
Which shortens the list of available devices significantly – to basically this and the roborock s7 which wasn’t available at the time.
The device was undoubtedly VERY EXPENSIVE – this can only really be justified if you’re considering it against getting a cleaner 2 or three times a week – in which case it will have paid for itself in 6 months.
So, was it worth it?
Well, I’m about a month in and I have to say Bert has exceeded all our expectations. He’s not without problems – our dog’s long hair does get tangled around his main brush once every 2-3 days, causing him to stop mid-clean and cry out for attention (and if this is during the night then he just sits there forlornly until the next morning – with a half-empty battery, which means he’s unable to do his morning chores effectively) – but on the whole he does a great job – the vacuum is as effective as our Miele cylinder (and of course gets under the sofas, tables etc where we can’t get) and the mop is super effective also. The effect is cumulative – Bert is set to go around twice a day and after a day the floors are cleaner than they ever have been (and we aren’t arguing about whose turn it is to run the mop round). It’s important to state that we don’t have carpets downstairs (where Bert operates) – I’ve read numerous reviews of Ecovacs devices which say they’re not great at cleaning carpets – and the X1 has no way of lifting its mops to do carpets – you have to manually remove them if you want to use it as just a vacuum for carpets – which would be a complete showstopper for me – the whole point of this device is that you set it up and then leave it go get on with it.
We’ve not had to empty the bag in the main unit yet, but we have had to clean the base – which is tricky – the device washes its mopping pads in a “sink” in the bottom of the base unit – if there’s lots of grit being picked up (because dogs are bringing in soil on their paws for example) then this accumulates in the sink and can block the drain (the base unit sucks the water from the drain into its dirty water tank after every cleaning – when the drain gets blocked you have to grovel on the floor with a provided brush and it’s a bit hard to see what you’re doing) – but once you know that this can happen, then it’s not too complicated to figure out.You have to keep on top of the water tanks obviously – the base unit isn’t “plumbed in” there are two tanks, for clean and empty water, that the device uses to empty/refill itself when it comes back mid clean. He requires fairly regular cleaning – (detangle the brush, clean muck and gunk from inside the brush channel, clean his sensors etc) but this is much easier than doing similar maintenance on a cylinder vacuum brush-head.
I’ve tried using the voice-command thing (“OK Yiko, clean the kitchen”) and it’s as rubbish as every other voice assistant – I hate them, fortunately the app is pretty good and tapping on “kitchen” to clean the kitchen is not too hard.
I haven’t got another device to compare Bert to, so can’t say whether he’s better or worse than any other robot vac/mop but he’s become a welcome addition to my household.

So. Seems great right? Thing is, this device has problems. The main brush (the heart of the device) is really flimsy. It’s poorly made, has no bearings And is clearly made to be disposable. It wears away after about a month or so. It’s not especially well made, the rubberised mounts that hold it in place wear away and then the whole brush starts rattling around in the bottom of the device. “So buy another brush you cheapskate” – thing is, you can’t. All you can buy is a “buddy kit” containing side brushes, filters, bags and a single main brush (which seems to be if even poorer quality than the one delivered with the device). For 30. The main brush in the buddy kit lasted 3 days before falling to bits and then began my horror story with ecovacs customer support department
I’m not going to bore you with the full details of my 6 week trial at the hands of these guys but suffice to say a 5 component and my struggle to source it has completely soured me on the whole ecovacs experience. I have reached the end of my tether trying to source a replacement brush for the device – there are cheap knock-off brushes available on here but they last maybe a day before they fall to bits (and cost a tenner or so)
More worryingly the device has decided to become increasingly erratic over the past couple of weeks – reporting multiple non-existent faults, stopping mid clean and demanding assistance. It has lost its map and started creating its own bizarre routes round my house.
Reporting these faults to ecovacs customer support resulted in absolutely nothing happening – like I say I’ve been waiting for an answer for over 6 weeks – it appears that the customer support team are drowning in tickets (which suggests I’m far from the only person in this position) – the European support team seems to consist of a couple of folks in Germany and maybe a couple of people in the uk – who just make vague promises that they don’t keep – I really don’t get what they think is going to happen while they just keep putting people off Day after day – the device isn’t going to magically fix itself is it?.
I am at the point where I have demanded a replacement unit – and if they don’t provide it then I will be asking for my money back – it’s a real shame – the robot itself is great! It’s being let down by beta quality software, shoddy parts (and a “build parts that fall to bits then sell them for an extortionate markup” sales model) and an under-resourced, poorly managed customer support operation. If I’d paid 500 for it, then I might be a bit more forgiving – but this cost me over 1300 (even with a discount) – should their customer support team read this review and have an amazing turnaround then I’ll update this review but until then assume this product to sit in the “I wouldn’t if I were you” department for now, until they fix their supper practices.
—
So I’m going to qualify my review – after 6 weeks ecovacs customer support came good and offered me a replacement device. The problem with the brush is with the rubberised plastic mounts – which are cheap and perish quickly if a lot of hair gets trapped in the brush (I have two long haired dogs) I have found a solution to this which is to replace the perished rubber with a 5mm piece cut from a length of 8mm flexible polythene tube (the sort of thing you might use for brewing or siphoning) – this does the same job of cushioning the brush in the base of the device but is much tougher than the original rubber. It’s a fudge, but it makes the brush last like I’d expect it to. Hopefully ecovacs recognise this and replace the rubber with something more hard wearing. (And fix their parts supply chain issues) Once you fix the brush, then the device is great -> I’ve put together a little video for how to fix the issue – search “Fixing worn main brush bushes on ecovacs x1” on you tube.
Well I had doubts I mean who wouldn’t.. Its a robotic vacuum after all.. Will this replace every woman who loves to clean ( my partner was mortified when this turned up but I put that down to jealousy and feeling threatened by deebots presence ) 4 days in now and I absolutely love it.. Paired with alexa for an even lazier approach, simple voice comands and he’s off.. Surprised by just how much dust he picks up and so was my more than deebot hating partner ( although she just said in a muttering voice ‘ yeah it’s OK I guess’).
He has his flaws but not many I may add.. He does like to fall into the foot well near the door this is only a drop off an inch so his sensors may not pick this up as its not significant enough.. Sometimes he struggles to find his way home to charge but its so funny to watch even this is a good thing.
Basically I love it
Missus hates it
So it’s a massive YES from me.. Buy one now
April 28 2019 EDIT: Since buying this last December my missus has since left me as she could not handle my new found love for Deebot and jealousy took over.. Deebot as always hasn’t let me down and still loves to clean with no issues.. Wish it could cook and clean too but I guess I’m going to have to learn that for myself.. At least Deebot is loyal
