I’d say buy it but don’t expect it to be as good as Sonic Mania. Sega should try to update 2D Sonic because as it stands it’s a series that will never grow past the genesis days.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersMy 10yr old son enjoyed this Sonic game which he got for his birthday and earlier this year. This said, he has since moved onto other switch games and hasn’t played it much recently. Having had a bit of a go myself, it’s enjoyable and does capture the feel and physics of the older classic sonic titles (whilst giving the graphics a bit of a fresh coat of paint). That said, I don’t feel that it tops the excellent Sonic Mania from a few years earlier. Not sure exactly, but something is a bit off for me. Some of the levels and environments are a bit bland and the much anticipated multiplayer isn’t very well implemented. Overall, it’s a step in the right direction after some of the recent Sonic titles (mania aside), but there’s some way to go for Sega to recapture the old glory days.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersReally nice game, good 2 player and interactivity.

Game Review: So the game is the best 2d sonic game, it’s in the retro style but the graphics are far superior to the 1980’s versions! Anyone who loves sonic will love this reboot of a classic, easy enough for a 6 year old to try their hand and get to the finish line, but also meaty enough for an adult to enjoy the screen its developments! If you are looking for high spec 3d this isn’t the game for you, but if you want a cult classic in a new generation this is a great shout, the campaign mode is fun, took us around 24/25 hours of gaming to get through the three main sections 🙂 but we still had to go back and get plenty of the other items and rings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Loved by 6 yr old!

This game has the cutes sonic and friends classic models. I adore this game! It’s super charming and very well made. Love the music for most of the levels and the level aesthetics are cute as heck! <333 plus the comic book skins are my fave!

It’s a pretty good game! The level layouts are very fun for the most part, with a lot of speedy segments and tricky platforming – though there are some annoying “bullet hell” segments and one level in particular that’s quite a frustrating slog – they got the physics just right, and I was surprised by how well the Chaos Emerald powers flowed in gameplay.

I think my main gripe is just that all the levels themselves are bit aesthetically boring and lack spectacle. Don’t expect anything to wow you as much as the bosses, graphics, and level gimmicks in Mania, some stages’ backgrounds are basically just 90s install wizard gradients.

I hope Sega keeps up with making these cutesy classic games alongside the edgier 3D games, silly and cute is the Sonic I gravitate towards, and I think that building off of Superstars as a base, they could eventually make a worthy successor to Mania.
