I grow succulents and other tender plants which require protection from frost and icy winds. Some go into a bubble wrap lined greenhouse and others stay outside planted in the garden — I worry about all of them.
This fleece sheet measuring 1.6 metres in width and 10 metres in length, is easy to use by wrapping around, placing over or cutting to size. The fleece is only 30gsm so doubling might be a good idea on frosty nights. Easy to wrap around tender patio bushes and trees, cut to size and fasten with string or tuck under planters, and is always a welcome extra layer in a greenhouse on a frosty minus figure night.
I had some fleece bags for some palms in my garden, and as the plants have grown in height the bags weren’t long enough anymore this year. This fleece was perfect for wrapping around the bases as it comes as a sheet, although is folded. Its easy enough to unfold this but it does get fiddly to keep it flat when wrapping it around – only really an issue if you care about how tidy it looks.
To be on the safe side I wound this around 2 to 3 times, as it is quite thin. Looks like its made of mashed together fibres.
Winter is heaving into sight again and last year although I live in the south it managed to exterminate a Jasmine climber that I had had for quite a while. This tough shrub is fully hardy… yeah, right… in truth, it was a tough winter with some long hard frosts.
I have a new Jamsine now and am going to take some precautions this year, cue this garden fleece.
The fleece comes in a zip loc bag neatly folded and at 2*5m is more than enough for what I need – a tall vertical plant – there will be plenty to wrap around the back of the trellis to prevent the fleece taking off in the inevitable windstorm.
Unlike some fleece I seen which was more like kapok fibre, this fleece is of continuous perforated construction. I’ve attached a close-up photo of the fleece. Time will tell but it looks quite hard wearing. Certainly worth giving a go.
We use this fleece every year to keep our tree fern safe from frost. Usually it comes on a roll, and this folded package is less useful as it needs unfolding to use it. You will have come looking for it so yes, this is the stuff, and yes, if you are filling to deal with the folded form (we are happy because we use it all in one go) then it’s a good buy.
Nice packed fleece. Feels robust enough to be able to protect my plants that are going to be overwintered in the greenhouse.
Not sure about the durability yet but it feels like it should last a few seasons if looked after.
