I liked this controller so much, I bought a 2nd one for 2-player sessions. The button and D-pad feel is perfect. So much better than an Xbox One controller for 2D platformers and retro games (Genesis, Master System, NES, SNES, etc). It’s nice that there’s a wired option as well. Once it’s synced to Windows, it’s effortless to turn on and play. I like that you can hold the button to shut the controller off so the battery doesn’t die. Retroarch is a bit annoying to setup, but you already knew that. Definitely buy this, 100% would recommend.
Super authentic feeling D-Pad, great feel. Authentic weight. Cool extra functions like switching between Dinput or Xinput, and changing which stick the D-pad functions as.
I love this thing for my retro games.
I currently using this pad to smoke children on Tekken 8 on steam. Works great on Debian 12 either Bluetooth or USB I have used it in both modes but prefer it on USB for no latency. Worth every penny especially if you are a fan of the Saturn pad.
I’ve been looking for a decent (new) controller for fighting games and this one has been very good. I’ve tried others like the Hori Octa but its Dpad was pretty disappointing with how unreliable and stiff it was. And standard controllers not having six face buttons was not gonna cut it.
I mostly play wired but Bluetooth connection seems reliable with good latency. Buttons have a good feel that aren’t easy to accidentally actuate. Dpad has a good range of motion that doesn’t leave your thumb feeling like you’re fighting against it while mainting decent return to zero.
If 8bitdo were to design something marketed specifically for fighting games I would line up.
Time will tell if it holds up. But so far (a couple months in SF6) it’s been solid.
I would have bought one sooner but did not realise they had Japanese colours until recently. Now that they have it has become my favourite pad for 2D games by far.
This controller is primarily for the classic Sega games up to the Saturn Era. Also good for Super Nintendo and Regular Nintendo along with the Atari 2600. However, I don’t recommend this for N64 games as you would need the analogue stick for some of them, like Goldeneye for example which used the analogue stick like a mouse for aiming which you can’t do with a directional pad.
It’s also portable and eroginomic at the same time so if you have two or more, you can take the 16-bit Sonic games with you wherever you go and play with a friend. Try mapping the shoulder buttons as A and B buttons when you play Sonic Spinball so they function like flippers.
