About Easy to use, you still need a PC, but the quality of photos is quite ok for the price. I had non digital photos which I made them now digital with this device and is just fine

This compact little scanner is amazing. It scans A4 width maximum, but that’s all I needed. So much quicker and less fiddly than a flat bed scanner and so small it takes up no space at all. It scans quickly and faultlessly, the installation is a breeze and the software is easy to use. Makes a change to buy a device that exceeds expectations.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI purchased this item to scan receipts and invoices as I work as a bookkeeper. This product is great. Connects straight to your computer via USB and scans quickly and the images are really clea

This replaces a HP Scanjet Pro 3500 f1 which failed just before it was a year old with a defective scan head. The warranty replacement failed after a year too. The Epson has a superior document feed and smaller footprint. Scan quality is very good. The control software follows the Epson family look-&-feel, where I think some of the setting selection dialogue boxes use smaller character size than necessary. I’ve experienced one misfeed in three weeks use and few slightly skewed pages. Impressed so far.

I bought this to help with a large archive scanning project – family photo albums. For this, the flat-bed glass was the main feature required, but I also wanted ability to scan regular document sheets, so having the duplex ADF option was a great addition – just simplifies the scan process a bit, saving shuffling lots onto the flat glass manually. (Note, the ADF is not massively quick – or quiet – but is still handy to have. If you want a fast ADF, perhaps consider the Brother ADS range, which I’ve used successfully at work).

A second criteria for me was Linux support. I previously had a Canon flatbed scanner, but disposed of this many years ago due to both it’s age and the lack of driver support under Linux (or even Windows 7, it was *that* old!).

I chose this Epson partly on the basis that Epson have provided an actual Linux driver + GUI scan tool (“Epson Scan 2”), even though it is not officially “supported” in terms of help-desk support. The GUI tool is comparable to most core Windows scanning tools, allowing choice of DPI, rotation, size of source item, whether to use Auto-detect, ADF or glass mode, default file name, output type (PDF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, etc).

Once the driver is installed, the choice of scanning app in Linux is up to you (default simple scan works fine once the driver is installed). However, I have stuck (so far) with the Epson-provided GUI one, then pushed any post-scan processing through GIMP (cropping, rotating, colour enhancing, etc). This combo works well for me as it easily allows me to separate out the 2, 3 or more photos per sheet of the album page into separate images (when desired).

The size of the unit also fits neatly on top of my flat-topped inkjet printer, which is handy for keeping the desk sprawl at bay.

Great little scanner can be used wirelessly or via USB. Don’t let the size fool you. This scanner is really efficient, quick at processing each page and a decent quality. Occasionally the page needs a little nudge but generally the page feeds through well. Really pleased with this purchase.

Took a little effort to get set up correctly using the drivers downloaded from Epson. Once set up it is very easy to use and the auto document feed for standard A4 documents works well, with even larger stacks of two sided documents scanned quickly and smoothly. Have not tried it with other document sizes. Very lightweight so easy to move around and with a small footprint.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersAs mentioned by another reviewer, this Epson scanner is quite a challenge to install if you are a Mac user.
What I assumed would be a simple plug & play installation took me hours to complete.
This involved the use of the Terminal app, and much online research to find the workarounds.
Long story short, getting the Mac OS to “see” the scanner seemed to be the main problem all round.

MacOS Mojave 10.14.3 does not support this Epson product, according to both Apple and Epson websites, so the set-up problems seem to be inevitable.

My scanner interfaces are now via Epson’s own Scan 2 interface, Image Capture and Adobe PSE13.

All that aside, the DS-1630 is fast and the top-sided paper feed is snappy.

Now it’s running, it’s fine and looking to be a good purchase.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersFollowed the advice of earlier reviews and ignored the worthless instructions and CD that came with the scanner and just went straight to the Epson website and downloaded the MAC ‘document capture’ software and drivers. Easily installed in 10 mins and up and running within 20 mins of opening box. With the right software settings it scans from the sheet feeder and outputs to my Brother WiFi printer so works effectively as a small volume photocopier. Document naming needs a bit of care but once done works with no issues. Good quality scans too. Overall a great scanner thank you Epson.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersBought for the automatic feed facility. This is a seriously good scanner that is perfect if you have many multi page documents that require scanning. It is VERY quick and doesn’t jam at all. A very good home office investme
